This almanac provides an overview of scholastic and co – scholastic domains and activities to be held in an academic session of the respective class along with the concerned syllabi, evaluation system and tentative schedule of the same.
I. INTRODUCTION
The holistic development of the child involves the amalgamation of the scholastic and the co – scholastic domains of pupil's growth. Thus, multifarious opportunities are provided and the curriculum is planned with an integrated approach through which we try to inculcate the habits of regular study, discipline, sense of responsibility, co – operation, community service and civic consciousness in our children to face the future challenges with confidence.
In order to meet our target of preparing young Rukminians to face the future challenges with confidence, the school believes in preparing and evaluating the students qualitatively in scholastic and co – scholastic areas. Hence, Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) is a part and parcel of the teaching learning process. It is a developmental process of assessment to provide holistic profile of the learner through regular assessment of both scholastic and co – scholastic aspects of development over the total span of learning time.

2. Co-Scholastic Areas (Non – academic subjects): These comprises of Life skills, Work Education, Visual and Performing Art and
Attitudes & Values. These areas are well integrated in the school curriculum and assessed on the following 5 point scale either by the
class teacher or concerned subject teachers or all teachers collectively:
2A) Life Skills: Life skills are abilities for adaptive and positive behaviour that enable individuals to deal effectively with the demands and
challenges of everyday life. They are abilities that facilitate the physical, mental and emotional well- being of individuals. There are large no. of Life
Skills emanating from various sources, and the total list is very large. For practical purpose and feasibility CBSE has chosen ten Life Skills broadly
evaluated under three categories i.e., (i) Thinking Skills (ii) Social Skills (iii) Emotional Skills. Students will be observed in day to day activities as
well as life skill based exercises that will be held as per the
2B) Work Education: This comprises of activities such as (a) Stationery making – folder making / Bookmark making / Paper Bag making (b)
2) Under Formative and Summative assessments ( FA-1, 2, 3, 4 & SA-1, 2), which are divided into two terms - Term I & Term II, the varied tools and techniques of assessment are broadly categorized into Pen- Paper tests and Internal assessment tasks. Their weightage in final result is as follows:
a) Internal Assessment (IA) & FA Pen-Paper Test: • Details of Internal Assessment (IA) and syllabus of the FA Pen-Paper Test are mentioned in the syllabus pages of respective subject. • FA Pen-Paper Test will be held on every Monday as per the Examination Schedule on page no. 8• In case there happens to be a holiday on a particular exam date, the exam will be held on the next working day.• Each student should have 75% of attendance to be eligible to appear in Summative Exam II.• It is mandatory for each student to appear in all the FA’s and SA’s. Retest will only be conducted if a student misses any exam on
medical grounds. Amount of Rs. 200/- per subject will be charged as retest fee. Absent (Ab) will be marked for casual leaves on examination day.
R.D.P.S.

• The answer sheet of FA (Pen Paper) tests and SA-I exams after having been checked by the teacher and also checked by the concerned student will be retained in the school. Any re–totaling / rechecking of answer sheets will not be entertained after the student has already checked the answer sheet.
• In order to pass, each student has to secure 33% marks/ ‘D’ grade separately in Theory and IA in each subject. b) Problem Solving Assessment (CBSE-PSA):
• It will be conducted by CBSE during the month of January– February 2014 .• It will be compulsory for all students of class IX . • Syllabus-There is no specific syllabus for ̀ Problem Solving Assessment’ (CBSE-PSA). The Life Skills shall be assessed within the
following domains: - Quantitative : which includes the reasoning seen in the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences
? - Qualitative : which includes the kinds of reasoning found in Mathematics and Science - Language Conventions : which includes different aspects of written communication (e.g. grammar, vocabulary etc.)
• The test items will incorporate aspects of 21st Century Skills (Creative Thinking, Decision Making, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Communication) that lead to success at Secondary Stage. They would be assessing student’s ability to process, interpret and use information rather than assessing student’s prior subject matter knowledge.
• The Assessment in language will contain items that will assess grammar, usage, vocabulary in context and passage-completion. • The items in Problem Solving Assessment’ (CBSE-PSA) will be designed in such a way so as to improve the generic and higher order thinking
skills. This will also result in improving scores within the core school subjects. • There will be no separate time tables or periods for teaching or practice of PSA in schools.• Examples of test items and the Format of the Assessment that might be used in the Problem Solving Assessment (CBSE-PSA) are attached
in the Annexure ̀ A’ & ‘B’ respectively of the Board’s Circular Nos. Acad-40/2012 for Class X, available at CBSE website.• Weightage- It will be counted towards FA-4 which is 10% of total assessments of Class IX.
- This assessment will also be carried forward towards the FA-4 in Class X.- This score will be reflected in one Language (English), Mathematics, Science and Social Science in the session 2013-2014
for Class IX and 2014–15 for Class X. - The same score will be reflected in FA-4 for class IX and Class X.
• The students will have the option to improve their PSA Score in Class X, as they can sit for the test with Class IX students of the Session 2014-2015 in January – February 2015. The best scores will be reflected in the final CCE certificate in case of those applying for improvement.
and carry 90 marks for 60 items of MCQ type
4) Promotion Policy as per CBSE Guidelines: The student will be promoted to the next class on the basis of the Final Result compiled after SA-2. No overall grade will be awarded. However, Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) will be indicated in the Grade Sheet cum Certificate of Performance. Subject wise and overall indicative percentage of marks could be derived based on Grade Point/Cumulative Grade Point Average i.e.,
II. Evaluation and Promotion:
1) The students will be assessed continuously and comprehensively via formative and summative assessments spread over the complete
academic session using variety of tools & techniques:
R.D.P.S.
6
- Subject wise indicative percentage of marks= 9.5 x GP of the subject- Overall indicative percentage of marks = 9.5 x CGPA
Details of the promotion policy are as follows:1. Every student is required to get a minimum qualifying overall grade D in every Scholastic and Co- Scholastic Areas and activities excluding
6th additional subject.2. A student unable to score qualifying marks/ grades needed for promotion to next higher class is expected to appear for improvement exam
as per C.B.S.E. norms.3. Overall performance of the candidate is based on the achievement in the Scholastic Areas as well as Co- Scholastic Areas and Activities as
follows:- The grades in Co – Scholastic areas are considered while assigning an overall grade to each subject in the Scholastic Area.
It is termed as up-scaling of grades in Scholastic Area.- Up-scaling process: i. Firstly the grades obtained in all the Co–Scholastic areas and activities are converted into grade points using 5 point grade scale.ii. Total grade points earned by a student are calculated by adding converted grade points of all the Co–Scholastic areas and
Activities. e.g., if a student has earned grade ‘A+’ in every Co–Scholastic areas and activity then his/ her total grade point will be 65.
iii. He / She gets the benefit of up-gradation of his/ her grades to the next higher grade in two main subjects of Scholastic Area in accordance to the following CBSE grade up-scaling norm:
iv. The up-scaling of Grade in Scholastic area is applicable to Main Subjects only (i.e. excluding Additional 6th subject). v. No up-scaling is done if the Grade obtained in the subjects is E2 or A1.vi. The benefit of up-scaling the grade in different subjects will start from the subject in which a student obtains lowest grade
followed by the next higher grade.

vii. Benefit of up-scaling will be given to the students who win I / II positions / prizes in competitions held at state level and / or participation in competitions held at national / international level organized by a body recognized by the State / Central Government / CBSE. Any competition organized by such agency related to the co-scholastic areas and activities mentioned in the CBSE Grade Sheet cum Certificate of Performance will be considered for giving this benefit. Those students who qualify under this provision will benefit by getting their grade up–scaled to the next higher grade in two subjects provided the benefit has not been given to the student under the aforesaid grade point scheme.
viii. A double star (**) will be put on every up–scaled grade to indicate that the overall grade has been awarded after including the achievement of the student in Co–scholastic areas. A footnote in this regard will be given at appropriate place in the report card.
4. A student who has obtained Grades E1 or E2 in any or all the five subjects (excluding the 6th additional subject) under Scholastic Area, as per the Scheme of Studies, will be eligible for improving his performance in any or all the five subjects and may reappear at the only chance of Improvement of Performance examination to be conducted by the School, to be held by July, the same year.
5. If a student fails to obtain qualifying grade D in one or more subjects, even after availing one improvement chance, he / she will be required to repeat the same class during next academic year.
6. After Summative Assessment- II in class X, a student will get only one more chance for improvement to obtain a qualifying grade D. This is also applicable to those students who are not able to appear in Summative Assessment due to sickness. This chance will be provided preferably within a time of one month from the time of declaration of final result. Syllabus for improvement examination would be same as that of SA II.
The holistic profile of the learner in the form of grades obtained in scholastic and co–scholastic areas will be provided to the student after successful completion of class IX & X in the form of Grade Sheet cum Certificate of Performance. It will be issued by C.B.S.E. and signed by C.B.S.E. official in addition to signature of the School Principal.
