LetterFromtheEditor Do you love yourself? Were you the one who made

yourself believe in true love? You must be scared of

getting judged, being stereotyped, losing yourself

forever and so much more. This force which lets you dive

into self-doubt is a force much smaller than the force

which can be produced in your soul if you love yourself

unconditionally.

Eternity exists, it exists with you. Life becomes a million

times simpler, when you support yourself, when you

believe that you are enough. Love yourself to the extent

that no one has the power to make you feel inferior. This

world is a cruel place, a place which can be made better

with one emotion, love. If you ever feel worthless,

remember no one comes in this world for nothing. To

whatever extent we love others, it can never exceed the

amount of love we can give ourselves. Someone once

told me, No one can master the art of living however we

all can master the art of staying a little happier than we

are today, by loving ourselves a little more every day.

‘It’s not that we use technology, we live technology.’

This is not just a saying, it’s something very apt in today’s world. And at MVN, we believe it, that's why, TechBlitz, an event for aspiring techies was held at MVN. In total there were six competitions held, divided on the basis of age. The first one was DigiShow, for students of class I and II. These little tots told that how different inventions help us. Proceeding further was LogoProgramming where students of grade IV and V worked in pairs and designed some very tricky Logos, that were allotted to them on the spot. The next was Stickmagedon, where on a pivot software, 4.2.6, these students created a movie using stick figures. The competition was held between grade VI and VII students.”

InvestitureCeremony

After successfully passing through various rounds which tested their skills, potential, confidence, responsibility and leadership, on 31st of July the students selected to make the Student Council for the session 2018-19 were invested with their badges and responsibilities. This day is of great importance to MVN, this day a new batch of students took the oath to respect and cherish their posts and above all, to honour the values and the principles of the institution. After being presented with their badges and taking the oath, members of the council directly addressed their fellow peers -establishing the foundation of their relationship with the students. The council was congratulated by our respected principal –Ms. Neeta Arora ma’am and encouraged to do their best by a very motivating speech. The fight these students had to put up for their respective positions is a very small fraction of what lies ahead for they now shoulder the responsibility of representing the entire students council and the institution itself.

We all are aware of the severe flooding that affected Kerala due to unusually high rainfall during the monsoon season. It was the worst flooding in Kerala in nearly a century. Over 445 people died, 15 went missing within a fortnight, while at least a million people were evacuated. Summing it all up, a large number of lives and their livelihoods were destroyed and now it is our duty as fellow human beings to help the people of Kerala come out of this and start their lives from the scratch. MVN understands this and decided to make its own little contribution by providing relief material which would be sent to the flood relief camps in Kerala via Goonj foundation.

On 23rd and 24th of August all the students and the teachers of the institution brought their own donations in the form of biscuits, pulses, rice, sugar, toiletries etc., all of which was collected and packed in cartons by the volunteers. The members of the student council then took the collected relief material to Goonj Foundation, Sarita Vihar. There the students also got to know about its working and several projects such as cloth for work and myPad initiated by the foundation. This was an eye-opening experience for the students as they saw the will of people to work without thinking about personal profit and the very techniques used by the foundation to convert a scrape of metal to what might be gold to the unprivileged.

This was followed by their portrayal of the religious processions of the Sikh community, namely the ‘Prabhat Pheri.’ The assembly was brought to an end by a magnificent silent play surrounding the fact that ‘United we stand, divided we fall,’ which emphasised that people of different religions shouldn’t fight with each other. IndependenceDay

The assembly conducted on 24th of august 2018 left all of its viewers inarticulate. Independence is something celebrated by every Indian, because it makes us remember how our ancestors granted us freedom from the inhuman British. The students of classes 10th G, H and I decided to honour our nation and presented a very most mind-blowing assembly. The assembly began with the hosts eulogising our freedom fighters who gave up their lives so that we could live. The ‘Nukkad Natak’ presented emphasised on the freedom struggle and the various freedom movements with one of them including ‘Simon go back.’ The act also showcased the execution of Bhagat Singh who was hanged to death. It left audience spellbound.

Next, the whole audience was shown a PPT which showed the unknown facts of the freedom struggle. The mime that was followed after it honestly left everyone speechless as it showed the audience how the various rebels like Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru and Sukh dev Thapar fought against the Britishers who were ultimately hanged by the ruthless British and are today respected as Martyrs . After the mime, a quiz was conducted to which, the audience took quite an interest as those who answered the questions correctly, were rewarded with chocolates. Moving forward, there was a sudden commotion in the audience as, the participants made quite an heroic entrance from the back of the auditorium by shouting powerful slogans like, ‘Inquilab Zindabad’, ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ and ‘Vande Mataram’. This marked the beginning of the Dance Drama which was a combination of plays, songs and dances. The skits highlighted a lot of social issues, like Child Labour, Bullying, Corruption, Casteism and Women Inequality. It showed how children of tender age are made to work and their childhood is snatched from them.

The second was Bullying, something that every kid goes through at least once in their which is very agonising. It showed how, a college freshman was mentally and physically tortured by his seniors and was thrashed for not completing their homework. The youth needs to be taught to be more kind and accepting. The next was emphasising on Corruption. It showed how poor people often become the victims of corruption by the industrialists and politicians. The next was, the problems faced by Indians when religion and politics clash with each other. The final part highlighted the discrimination that women of our country face. It showed how even when she is financially independent and is a strong person, those around her try to bring her down using their condescending attitude. This performance left the audience in a very emotional state. The girls of class 10th H danced beautifully to emphasise on this issue. As the final act, the students sang in beautiful synchronisation while everyone listened to their melodious song. As the song ended, all the participants rushed to the stage, hoisted the Indian flag and sang, ‘ Saare Jahan se Accha’. Thus, ending the assembly with a bang, leaving the audience immensely satisfied.

SanskritAssembly

The Sanskrit assembly was a great effort by the students of classes 9 and 10. It was a vivid portrayal of the importance of Sanskrit language. The assembly proved to be rather informative along with entertaining. The assembly opened with a harmonious song which was soothing to the soul. Next came an array of fantastic acts which engaged students while giving them valuable knowledge. MouldingOneselfforLife

Student to Student counselling. It’s true that a good orator leaves a great impact on the listener’s mind, but what can better than students interacting with their fellow students and imparting some life changing values through a workshop? The students of class IX were made to experience one of the best workshops of time by the members of the Core Council along with some other students under the title ‘Moulding oneself for life.’ To begin with the students elaborated the term success and gave it a new meaning. Moving ahead, students discussed unhealthy character traits by dramatising a Road Rage incident. Students were asked to point out the character traits they noticed which made the workshop quite interactive. For the students to relate with these traits the members put their level best to make the audience understand how they can spot such traits at an early stage and get rid of them. To make sure that the students try to improve their personalities logical consequences of possessing such traits were discussed which was truly an eye opener. Children were made to realise how such traits play the role of obstruction to their path of success. The members discussed their own experiences which made students understand that making mistakes is okay but learning from them is very important. Deep down, whatever was discussed was linked to discipline. A broader perspective was highlighted when it comes to discipline. What’s a workshop without some solutions? With the help of electronic slides, few tips were discussed which made the workshop utterly fruitful. The audience was immensely satisfied, and for the members it was a dream come true when almost every student and teacher alike gave some precious words of appreciation. Undoubtably this workshop was a grand success.

With the pressure and expectations of the society and

parents weighing them down, choosing streams for

class 11th and 12th, can be very confusing and a

stressful task for the students. It’s important that they

take the right decision, since this one decision will

decide their futures and the students don’t want to

regret about this decision ever in future. To guide the

students and help them choose the correct stream

Modern Vidya Niketan Aravali hills, arranged a

workshop organised by Pratham. The workshop was

held on 21st September in the school auditorium and

was conducted by Ms. Hema and Mr. Ashish. Students

were told to put aside all kinds of social, parental and

peer pressure while choosing their streams. They were

briefed about all the streams- the career options in one

particular stream, the renowned colleges, the type of

personality needed for a profession, and a lot more with

the help of a very informative PowerPoint presentation.

The workshop was undoubtedly a success as the

students came to know about the opportunities that

were unknown to them and got an insight of the stream

they were planning to opt. At the end of the workshop,

booklets were distributed among the children to further

help them with career planning.

MVN has a tendency of helping kids find their hidden talents and helping them hone them. In order to do that, it holds various activities every other week to help students develop their social and communication skills which not only develops one’s confidence but also boosts their self-esteem. One such competition held was Stand Up Comedy for class IX students. The competition consisted of a lot of contenders where they could present their act bilingually. The comedians came up on the stage with a lot of panache and shared a lot of hysterical jokes which amused everyone. Some students spoke on the issue of Exams where they added humour to how students behave before their exams. Other topics that the children spoke on were Indian parents, their stereotypical mindset and over possessiveness. One comedian also spoke about the troubles faced by elders when it comes to technology. One peculiar topic that a contender spoke on was, ‘chai’. The contestant gave hilarious descriptions about Indian tea Brands. Every contender proved himself/herself worthy enough to be a Standup Comedian.

As yet another International Women's Day passes by and the nation, rather the world, awaits the next such day when millions of women and girls will be wailing at the top of their voices, for their unmet rights; How far has India walked the path of gender equality is still a question. Even after years of independence, why are the women still caged and immured? Why have their efforts for anti-sexism and anti-discrimination sunk like a stone in the world where females constitute at least 45 percent of the total population? Each one of us is aware of the fact that India persists to be a patriarchal society where the father is the head of the family and daughters are not free to take independent decisions, rather they are bound to follow their dads or husbands say and are a subject to many constraints. As Gandhi Ji once said 'To call woman the weaker sex is a libel; it's man's injustice to woman. If by strength it is meant moral power then woman is immeasurably man's superior.' But still drop out rates for females is more, girls can't pursue higher studies and should be married off as soon as they turn 18 or even earlier in some cases. Besides because of safety purposes, as most families claim to be , females are not allowed to move out of their houses. But a fact is that they are not secure even within the walls of their houses. Tens of thousands of women are victims of sexual harassment and exploitation. Despite the Equal Wages Act , in some cases they are paid less than men even for the same work. And it’s true, girls are regarded as a burden on their families in this developing, sovereign but a stereotypical nation. For I say to the girls: 'First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.' Such an abysmal scenario explicitly shows to what extent Gender Equality has been achieved. As Emma Watson puts it, 'It is time we all see gender as a spectrum instead of two sets of opposing ideals.' And I believe, the hour has arrived when we should look up to gender equality as a human issue and not just some women's fight, as it affects us all. Once the country could bring together both men and women to fight this issue, strive for equal rights and opportunities for women, India would just be a stone's throw from being a country where people are not judged by their sex but by the content of their character and abilities.

TheGhostsoftheDay She was afraid for she was all alone,

Even when there were so many whispers and moans

With the slightest of the movements of the wind,

Her feet tingled and her skin crawled .

They were the ghastly thoughts they didn't say

That scared her; They were the ghosts of the day

Humanity said- "There is nothing like a spirit who had a human as a feast."

Yes,she knew. Oh, I knew. But there were some unholy sadistic beasts ,

And they were no spirit, demon or ghost

They were 'mankind' as we say and their sordid thoughts

The fear in her eyes was because she could be the next prey.

They didn't recognise what light was even though they were the ghosts of the day.

MyDayWithTheSpring

I came to the forest once in spring,

For me the robin loved to sing.

The branches swayed to and fro,

And the birds seemed to come and go.

The birds blooming to colourful flowers,

When I touched the mimosas, it took its covers.

Trees of orange,mango and apple,

What a fascinating sight of the trees of maple!

The berries tasting like the brownie,

Fragrances, colours, feelings and many.

Nature looking better than ever,

The butterflies fighting for the sweet nectar.

Clashing of branches like crunching of rusk,

The dark has come, now its time for dusk.

The setting sun is a beautiful sight,

It gives me such joy and delight!

Even the Moonflower has begun to bloom,

I should go to home,

I really assume.
