SHUM is a Professor and Distinguished University Scholar, Division of Geodetic Science, School of Earth Sciences, at The Ohio State University. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and a Fellow of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG). He received numerous awards including the 2012 Vening Meinesz Medal from the European Geosciences Union for distinguished research in Geodesy applied to sea-level science. He served as a Lead Author for the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) Fourth Assessment Report (AR4), Working Group I, The Physical Science Basis. This contribution resulted in the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize jointly awarded to IPCC and Al Gore, Jr. His research foci include the observations and characterization of the causes of global sea-level rise, and anthropogenic climate-change. Specifically, he conducts research on present-day ice-sheet and mountain glacier mass balance, glacial isostatic adjustment, steric sea level, marine gravity field, satellite hydrology and oceanography, earthquakes, tides, geodynamics, GNSS meteorology, space physics, Earth’s temporal gravity field and mass transports, and applications including coastal vulnereability, disasater response, and water resources management. He is an expert in satellite geodesy, passive remote sensing, and precsion orbit detemination, and in the use of geodetic observations including GNSS, satellite altimetry, satellite gravity, synthetic aperture radar interferometry, and satellite laser ranging. He has published over 333 refereed journal articles and book chapters, with a Google Scholar Citation index 0f 14,653. H-index: 59, and i-10 Index: 213.
