To become a city of productive neighbourhoods, at human speed, interconnected,

eco-efficient, re-naturalised, energetically self-sufficient and regenerated at zero

emissions, inside a high-speed interconnected Metropolitan Area.

Barcelona is orienting its city evolution strategy towards to guarantee quality of life for its citizenry, social and urban i mprovement and added value in its neighbourhoods, fostering all its urban potential towards sustainable development and green economy, i n favour of an energetically self-sufficient city and where nature holds a prominent role for the balance of the city. A connected city with a high-speed interconnected Metropolitan Area, that guarantees the region evolution and the improvement of its inner cities .

The City Protocol Society is a non-profit organisation composed by a trust community of cities, enterprises, academia andother organisations that benefit from the knowledge and experience of city at worldwide level to accelerate thetransformation and collaborative action of cities, offering a tutored guide.

Construct and maintain a repository of documents that describe projects, policities and standards proven in cities thatwork together to face its common transformational challenges.

Establish the basis for the evaluation and accreditation of documents and norms for the transformation of cities that will

guide the development of the City Protocol.

Create an education and knowledge exchange network between cities, companies, academia and other organisations.This resource must foster the diffusion of available proven solutions for its general use and must assure that thetransformation in cities and the sustainability of the City Protocol go in parallel.

Under the frame of iCity project, be offered public infrastructure to third parties so that they can offer the public service of public interest.

7.3 Intelligent dataSituation Room

Situation Room is the Platform for integration and sharing of information about the city and itsservices. It is a center that will control centers across the city, it is not about managing servicesintegrated into it. Its goal is to have a tool to improve governance. It is not their goal incidentmanagement and monitoring of emergencies.

7.4 Smart Lighting (lighting plan)

Lighting Plan in Barcelona is a strategic plan that sets thecriteria for lighting the city. Therefore, it defines thecriteria which requires the city light: color temperature,levels, uniformity, contrast, control systems andoperational management. It is not determined thenumber of lamps and lighting technology; it is the basisfor the business model and technology to implement theconcept of smart lighting in the city.

7.5 Self-suficent blocks

Creating energy self-sufficient blocks, in order toimprove practices related to consumption andproduction of energy.It is based on the incorporation of solar roofs, mixeduses, collective district heating, water recycling, andthe use of electric vehicles as the most outstandingproposals, in order fit the maximum energy demandwith local production.

There are some parking initatives running inBarcelona:• Light signalling to find free spaces in parkings.• New system to rent private spaces by public

(wesmartpark). (pilot in hotels)• Smart Park system for touristic buses in Sagrada

Familia.• An App to pay the green and blue zones through

mobile phone.

In the framework of the redevelopment ofthe main streets in Barcelona (Passeig deGràcia, Paral·lel, Passeig de Sant Joan andere IV street), a set of smart cities andtelecom projects will be developed. Moretransformations will come in the future.

9. Smart city campus, clúster smart cities and Urban Lab

3) The goals of the Urban Lab are to use the city as a laboratory to approachthe new solutions to market municipal services, and also, that companies canuse it as a space for testing, facilitating market access and promotingcompetitiveness.

1) Barcelona created the Smart City Campus,located in the 22@ innovation district. In order tofurther strengthen the strategy of the city, urbaninnovation, Barcelona wants to offer the city astorefront for companies to develop and test pilot.

2) The cluster of smart cities, that will be developed around Smart CityCampus, wants to work and to agglutinate diverse sectors like ICT, energy,mobility… for the creation of an ecosystem that integrates not only companies(multinationals and SMEs), but also to institutions, research centres, technologytransfer centers, and universities and the academic sector.
