The bridge, designed by city architect Horace Jones in collaboration with John Wolfe Barry, would eventually be completed in 1894. Five contractors and nearly 450 workers were involved in the construction of the 265 meter long bridge. It took 11,000 tons of steel to build the framework. At the time many people disliked its Victorian Gothic design, but over time the bridge became one of London’s most famous symbols.

The word circus meaning "circle" - the designation is very popular in England, the practice of traffic through the creation of circular intersections (although some of the "Circus" in London are the normal crossings, such as Oxford Circus). Since 1906, under the area of the same name station located two subway lines.

Piccadilly Circus

Piccadilly Circus is located in the West End and is a center of entertainment Londoners. At its center is a statue of the Angel of Christian Charity. The monument was created in 1893 in memory of the great Victorian philanthropist graph Shaftsberiyskom. Another symbol of London, a meeting place and the intersection of five roads, Piccadilly Circus (Piccadilly Circus) - very noisy, messy and dirty area of the city. It is given to musicians rastamanov, the masks (mostly under Elvis), dragdileram, hordes of tourists, beggars in their sleeping bags and fraudsters with French bulldogs on leashes

Statue of ErosThe main attraction of the area - the statue of Eros. But no, he does not really Eros: a boy on one foot - Angel of Christian charity. Alfred Gilbert carved it in 1893 in honor of Earl Shaftesbury, a fighter against child labor. But how else could a boy nickname, if Piccadilly Circus and its vicinity at the time were "red light district, there was even a saying:" less than virgins in Piccadilly. " In the sculptor were also reasons to doubt the angelic nature of the statue, which it can be said, and destroyed: Because of her Gilbert almost ruined because of it he hunted in the press because of her, he became a voluntary recluse. By the way, the bow is an angel, but no arrows - he did seem to have already released. In addition to everything and turned Eros not where he should: Look he had on Shaftesbury Avenue, but looks at the central tourist office (Britain and London Visitor Centre) in Regent Street.

Advertising in the spirit of the 70

Over Eros shines a huge advertisement in the spirit of the 1970's. The spectacle is not the most outstanding, but historic: the first luminescent advertisement appeared here in 1910. Near - HMV music store and Trocadero, a multi-storey leisure park and recreation.

* Palace of WestminsterHouses of Parliament

Palace of Westminster, also known as the Houses of Parliament or Westminster Palace, is home to two buildings of the Parliament of the United Kingdom - The House of Lords and the House of Commons. It is located on the northern bank of the River Thames in the heart of London City of Westminster town, close to the historic Westminster Abbey and the government buildings of Whitehall and Downing Street. The name may refer to either of the two structures: The Old Palace, a medieval complex of buildings, most of which was destroyed in 1834, and its replacement by the New Palace, which stands today, it retains the style and status of the royal residence, in spite of its actual use.
