Ugu District - Overview
according to the 2016 Population Statistics the Ugu District has an estimated population of 760 000+ people. UGu is among the most favourite tourist destinations in KZN. Tourism and agriculturePopulation
unemployment rate was estimated to be at about 27,4 % but when considering the unemployment of those below the age of 40 i.e. age group from 15 -39, the unemployment rate is substantially higher rising to as
much as 45%- 50%. Unemployment
formal employment opportunities are very limited and there are many youth in the South Coast that
despite having a matric certificate or TVET qualification, are unable to get employment because they lack relevant skills - especially basic Computer and IT Skills.

billion in 2013. Of this amount, Ugu contributed approximately R11.8 billion, which translated to 3.6 per cent of the total provincial economy
