Beginning March 31, 2010, 14 and 15 year olds must complete the course and obtain a certificate of completion in order to work. Employers will need to keep copies of their 14 and 15 year old employees' certificates on file. "The new interactive version of the course makes it easier for 14 and 15 year olds to learn about workplace safety, labour and employment standards, and their rights and responsibilities," Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Minister Rob Norris said. "I encourage young people to take the course and get their certificates early." The YWRCC is an important part of Saskatchewan's minimum age of employment restrictions announced last summer. Under the restrictions, 14 and 15 year olds must also get written consent from a parent or guardian, work no more than 16 hours during a school week, and must not work after 10 p.m. on a day preceding a school day or before the time that school starts on any school day. Employers must keep copies of their 14 and 15 year old employees' parent or guardian's consent, proof of age and YWRCC certificate of completion on file. Current legislation continues to restrict the employment of young people in casinos and in the sale, handling or service of alcohol, during school hours and in certain high-risk occupations. To find out more about Saskatchewan's employment standards, call 1-800-667-1783 or visit http://www.aeel.gov.sk.ca/ywrcc . It’s Income Tax Time…. It is important for everyone to file a return! Even if you have no income to report, it is necessary to file a return in order to receive your GST, Child Tax and Old Age Payments. Sending a Tax Return
There are several ways to file or send your 2009 tax return. NETFILE - is a fast, easy and secure service that allows you to send your tax return directly to Canada Revenue
Agency. Internet-filed tax returns must be prepared using one of the commercial tax preparation software packages. EFILE - is an automated system that lets registered electronic filing service providers complete and send your tax return electronically. To use this service, you take your documents to a tax preparation service provider who will prepare your electronic return. TELEFILE - is a fast and easy service that allows you to file your tax return by phone. If you complete a paper tax return, you may be able to file it by phone for free. All you need is a touch-tone phone, your SIN number, your personalized access code, and your completed tax return. (If you need an access code, you can call the e-service help desk at 1-800-714-7257.) To find out if you can use this service, call TELEFILE at 1-800-959-8281. This service is available from February 9 to September 30, 2010.
BY MAIL - You can mail a paper tax return to:
Canada Revenue Agency Tax Centre P.O. Box 14001, Station Main Winnipeg, MB R3C 3M3 GST Credit - You are eligible to receive the credit the quarter after you turn 19 or the quarter after you become a parent or
after you get married or get a common law partner. E.g. If you turn 19 in Feb (born in 1991). You must file a 2008 income tax return to apply for the credit and a 2009 income tax return to keep it going. Generally, your return has to be filed on or before April 30. 2010. If you file your return after April 30, your GST, Child Tax and Old Age Security benefit payments may be delayed. If you need someone to do your income tax return, there are community volunteers.
