How to make cinemagraph

In previous article we explain what cinemagraph is, who invented this moving photography and we show you the most popular examples of cinemagraph.

Now you will learn how to create your personal cinemagraph, so open you Adobe Photoshop and read very carefully.

First of all you need to know that if you want to create cinemagraph you will need Photoshop extended version. We were creating cinemagraph in Adobe photoshop creative suit 6, and you can make your moving photography in creative suit 5. We try making cinemagraph in Photoshop creative suit 3, but it didn’t work..

So, if you want your first cinemagraph to look as realistic as possible, we recommend you to make it in Adobe Photoshop creative suit 6.

Before you open your Photoshop, you need to record a short video of moving object for example moving car, people crosing streets, pets, girl blowing bubbles and others.

When you save your short video on your computer, now you can open Adobe Photoshop extended version. To insert your video into Photoshop, you can press File, Open, and find your video wherever you save it.

When you open your video, in Photoshop will open timeline you willyou’re your video as we shown bellow.

When you insert your video you need to deside which part of video will move. We are using escalators, one part is empty, and one is with people, sa our moving segment will be empty escalator, and our still segment will be escalator with people. First of all, you must watch you video, see where you want your cinemagraph to star and where to end, and than just attract the part you want from the beginning and from the end.

Next thing you should do is to create new layer.

Next, you will need brush tool and at the picture you can see where brush tool is. In your timeline, with red line move frame by frame and with brush tool paint part that you want to move.

Next step-make your new layer invisible, and then create new layer by clicking CTRL+SHIFT+N and after that CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+E (and picture from layer one will appear in new layer).

This happens when you click CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+E (look picture bellow)

Next step you can see in the picture below:

When you finish this, your next step will be to click on layer 3, and to add layer mask. When you do this, opposite object will move, so you must click again on layer mask and press CTRL+I (this will help you to reverse layer mask).

After doing this, you can delete your layer 2 (painted layer).

And now you have your first cinemagraph!

The interestesting thing about cinemagraph is that you can treat it like every other photography, and you can use different options to edit you cinemagraph (levels, curves, hue and saturation, contrast…)One more thing,when you save your cinemagraph, you must click File, Save for web, switch to GIF format, and in the field LOOPING OPTIONS switch to FOREVER, so your cinemagraf can move all the time.
