Among the 19, was a woman, Mary Craig Dunleavy, the first woman to be honored by the CCSAR. Mary served as a nurse, tending to the wounded and ill in central Pennsylvania. The event was honored with greetings from SAR Ohio State President, James Shaeffer and local historian, Mr. John Zimkus, who presented us with some interesting information on a few of the patriots that were recognized today. Nearly 100 persons were in attendance, including more than a dozen descendants. The event concluded with a flintlock salute and Taps being played while the Color Guard poised in the “mourn” position. This is becoming an annual event, as the CCSAR has had similar ceremonies the past two years during the week of Patriot’s Day, in 2014 at Spring Grove Cemetery and in 2015 at Williamsburg Cemetery in Clermont County.
