CII Chandigarh Fair

Background of CII Chandigarh Fair CII Chandigarh Fair was conceptualized for easy business to business (B2B) and business to consumer (B2C) transactions. The intent of the event was to bridge the gap between business and civil society. The major objective of the fair was to bring all the stakeholders in a common platform. The timing of the fair was so decided that it precedes Diwali (the festival of lights), which is a major Indian festival and shopping of consumer products during the occasion is considered as auspicious. Moreover, the climatic condition during this period of the year is pleasant. Moreover, the income and consumption level of citizens of the city is among one of the highest in the country. Also, Chandigarh boasts of additional advantage like ease of connectivity, green environment, variety of places of interests for tourists, excellent infrastructure base etc (Refer to Annexure I). In the very first year of the fair (in 1995), majority of the participants were from finance & banking, IT, auto consumer and FMCG. The response received from the citizens of Chandigarh and business was tremendous. Subsequently, in the latter editions of the fair, participants from more sectors and sub-sectors were roped in. The rapid development of satellite cities like Panchkula, Mohali, Zirakpur, Kalka, Parwanoo, Baddi etc resulted in broadening of the consumer base. From 2005 onwards, the concept of International Arcade was introduced, where the business community from other countries showcased their products. The success of this concept resulted in making it a permanent fixture of the consumer fair. In the year 2007, the concept of exclusive state pavilion was introduced with success. In the last (2009) edition, manufacturers and traders from seven states participated in the fair.
