About Technical VisitTechnical Visit 1 : National Capital Power Station (NCPS) Or NTPC Dadri, is the power project tomeet the power demand ofNational Capital Region (India). It has a huge coal-fired thermalpowerplantandagas-firedplantandhasasmalltownshiplocatedinUttarPradesh,Indiaforitsemployees.ItislocatedinGautamBudhNagardistrictofUttarPradeshabout25km fromGhaziabadandabout9kmfromDadri.Itisnearly48kmfromNewDelhitowardsHapur.Thetownshiphasanareaofabout500acresoverall.NTPCDadriisabranchofNationalThermalPowerCorporation,whichisapublicsectornow.Itisabout20kmfromGhaziabadviaBadalpur,Mahawar,Bamabawar,andAkilpurJagir.
Technical Visit 2: The 800 kV HVDC terminals at Agra is located about10kmfromthevenue.TheAgraHVDCterminalistheInverterstation of theworld’s first 800 kVMulti terminal HVDCProject of6000MWcapacityandtotallinelengthofabout1700km.OneBipoleRectifier station is located inBiswanathChariali (Assam) and thesecondoneatAlipurduar(WestBengal).ThismultiterminalHVDCproject was envisaged for evacuation of bulk power from NorthEasternRegionofIndia.NorthEasternRegionofIndiaisendowedwithlargehydropotentialoftheorderof50GWwhichisrequiredtobetransmittedtotheloadcentersofNorthern/WesternandSouthernregions of India. Transmission of such quantum of power over alongdistanceand throughcertaingeographically narrowcorridorscalledchicken-neckareaofWestBengalrequiredaHVDCsolution.Lookingintothegenerationadditionprogram,theprojecthasbeendevelopedstagewiseusingparallelgroupsofconverters.EachpoleoftheMultiterminalHVDCProjecthascontinuouspowercapacityof2000MWi.e.,a33%overloadcapabilitywhichcanbeutilizedtocompensatefullpowerforlossofonepolebyincreasingpowerflowontheotherthreeavailablepoles.AhugeindoorDCyardofabout75x75mand40mheightisaspecialfeatureattheAgraInverterStation.
