The CIEE Work & Travel USA program offers an opportunity for students to immerse themselves in American culture by living and working in a U.S. community during the summer university breaks of their degree programs in their home country.

The primary objective of the program is to provide a cultural exchange opportunity, rather than a purely academic one.

How does the CIEE Work & Travel USA program work?

You will be welcomed as a visitor with a U.S. Department of State J-1 visa which will allow you to live and work in the U.S. for up to four months during your university summer break. Visitors with J-1 visas require a sponsor and as a student in the CIEE Work & Travel USA program; CIEE is your sponsor.

As a sponsor, CIEE provides visa sponsorship, pre-departure orientation information, student in-country support, required phone SEVIS registration for students upon arrival and at a minimum, monthly contact to ensure student safety and program satisfaction.

CIEE is proud to offer Access Scholarships that make it possible for more future leaders to participate in the CIEE Work & Travel USA program. Access Scholars are students who would not otherwise enjoy this incredible cultural exchange opportunity.

Participation from Access Scholars ensure that the CIEE Work & Travel USA program remains strong and continues to promote and achieve public diplomacy goals.

• CIEE Work & Travel USA program fee• Job offer fee• Travel insurance• Required SEVIS U.S. immigration fee• U.S. visa application fee • Housing assistance provided by the U.S. host employer• Round trip transportation costs to their employment site• A one-time stipend to cover travel incidentals and expenses

CIEE Access Scholars- Where are they from?

CIEE awarded 11 Access Scholarships in 2015 to students from 3 countries. Because of the support of the Access Scholarship program, in 2016, we were pleased to awarded 30 scholarships to students from five countries. In 2017, we hope to add Nicaragua to this list!

This picture is one of the most significant moments in my life in the sky deck in Chicago when I forgot about my fears and stepped on the glass balcony to see the beauty of the amazing city Chicago. I was working in Cedar Point amusement park and I tried some roller coasters there. Although it was so hard, it gave some more courage, that is why I could make it in the sky deck. Also this trip helped me to travel a lot and to feel that I am free and I can do everything, and there is no limits to my abilities. It was, and would always be, the best summer in my whole life.

I really liked working with her, she was a great friend and a great team leader and we had so much fun together in and out of work. This was such a great opportunity to visit an American home, have an American BBQ and make some awesome friends! John Lynch and his wife, Vicky, are very active in the Wildwood, New Jersey community and enjoy hosting international students in their home every year. This photo is so important to me because i felt it was a pure 100% American experience ( the food, the setting,....) and i got to know more about some American traditions like grilling marshmallows.

Through this experience, I have learnt that the greatest reward of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted. This experience provided me with a very meaningful opportunity to meet new people and make new and lifelong friends from different countries; Turkey, Egypt, Spain, Poland.. and discover their different cultures and languages.

The first picture is of me with my Polish, Spanish and Thai friends. I am so happy that I met them. We had visited the World War I Memorial in Kansas City. At this moment I realized that one of my dreams came true and It's traveling to US. The second picture was taken on my last day at work when I had to say bye to my team members. It was so sad. I just wish I can meet them again!

This program is a good chance for people to know other people and other cultures and to work and gain experience
