Forty Days in the Word will transform people from ’hearers’ to ’doers.’" - Pastor Rick Warren 40 Days in the Word is a church wide spiritual growth campaign. In weekly small group studies and in Sunday morning messages we will exam- ine six principles of the Word of God. Together at Central Baptist Church we will explore the au- thenticity, reliability, power, comfort, interpreta- tion and doing of God’s Word. There are literally thousands of verses about the Bible in the Bible. We will look at hundreds of those verses in this six week process. What are the goals of this campaign? LOVE THE WORD. LEARN THE WORD. LIVE THE WORD. What are the components of 40 Days in the Word? SMALL GROUP STUDIES The core component of this spiritual growth campaign will help you learn methods of how to study and interpret God’s Word with 6 small group sessions on DVD. Small groups will meet throughout the week and at various locations in the Alameda/East Bay area. We will help you find a group that meets at a convenient time and location. Several of you have already volun- teered to host small group meetings. More of you will volunteer in February to host a group. No special skills are necessary! You can do it! Small groups can meet any time during the week, except at 10:30 Sunday morning. Continued on next page

40 Days in the Word is a church wide spiritual
growth campaign. In weekly small group studies
and in Sunday morning messages we will exam-
ine six principles of the Word of God. Together at
principles of the Word that will be studied in the
small groups. The messages will build confi-
dence in the reliability of God’s Word. The
morning worship music will not be exclusively
related to the campaign, but there will be a focus
each week on the Word.

outstanding pastors from across America and 40
written daily devotionals. A reading plan will be
provided for each one to follow after the cam-
paign ends. We want to continue the habits that
build an eternal devotion to God’s Word.
The last Sunday message for 40 Days in the
Word will be April 1. The final week of small

“When we come to a clearer and more sober estimate of our own limitations and responsi-bilities, that makes it possible more genuinely to love our neighbor." - Dietrich Bonhoeffer in "Letters and Papers from Prison"
Mummy Heart Failure The heart is used as a symbol for love – but our physical heart’s health is impor-tant, too. Sometimes our moral – or im-moral – actions affect our heart health. Check out this story. An archaeologist was digging in the Negev Desert in Israel and came upon a casket containing a mummy. After examining it, he called the curator of a prestigious natu-ral-history museum. "I've just discovered a 3,000 year-old mummy of a man who died of heart fail-ure!" the excited scientist exclaimed. To which the curator replied, "Bring him in. We'll check it out." A week later, the amazed curator called the archaeologist. "You were right about the mummy's age and cause of death. How in the world did you know?"
