Children of God

1 John 3.1-3

What are our greatest fears?

Everyone has a need for acceptance and for a sense of belonging .

Our greatest fears may be the fear of rejection and the fear of being lonely .

What about Jesus ?

“This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased .”

The purpose of the cross

The cross is to bring us into a right relationship with God. (2 Corinthians 5.21)

Jesus is not made a sinner for, remember, God loves sinners.

Jesus is made sin – and God hates sin.

This is a costly exchange.

Jesus takes the place of sin – which God hates.

We may now become what God loves – righteousness .

What is righteousness ?

It is a right relationship – getting right with God.

The object of the cross is reconciliation with God.

What is our standing before God?

We are criminals . (Romans 5.9-11)

We stand complete upon the merit of Christ – our debt is paid in full!

We are citizens . (Philippians 3.17-21)

We enter the kingdom of God through the merit of Christ!

We are children ! (John 1.10-13)

We are sons and daughters of God!

What about us?

What is our standing before God?
