Tuesday, May 14, 2019. Please call the Parish Office to register.

During Lent, Mass will begin without the usual proces-sion into the church. We ask the community to be quiet and meditate in silence five minutes before Mass. As we have done in the past, our Lent is also an invitation to our children to share their pennies with the poor. We ask our children to come up and drop their donation in the “Pennies for the Poor” jar when the ushers are taking up the collection for the community at large. You are also invited to join the parish community in pray-ing the Stations of the Cross and Benediction on all the Fridays of Lent at 7:30 p.m. The Church will be open during Lent from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. so that in these days in which the whole church, our world and our country are in such pain, we can bring healing with our quiet, prayer and genuine repentance.

St. Vincent de Paul There will be a collection this weekend for our Society of St. Vincent de Paul, an opportunity for Lenten almsgiv-ing. THANK YOU for providing resources for food, transportation, utilities, furniture and other basic support for those in need in our Parish.

Excerpts from the Letter of the Holy Father Pope Francis

to the Bishops of the United States of America Credibility is born of trust, and trust is born of sincere, daily, humble and generous service to all, but especially to those dearest to the Lord’s heart (cf. Mt. 25:31-46). It will be a service offered not out of concern with market-ing or strategizing to reclaim lost prestige or to seek acco-lades, but rather—as I insisted in the recent Apostolic Ex-hortation Gaudete et Exsultate—because it belongs to “the beating heart of the Gospel”.

NEW Annual Chrism Mass Thursday, April 11, 6:30 p.m.

All are invited to the Chrism Mass, celebrated April 11, 6:30 p.m. at Cathedral of Christ the Light. This liturgy, celebrated by Bishop Michael C. Barber, SJ, unites the diocese in recalling the gifts of the priesthood and the Eucharist. The Oil of the Sick and the Oil of the Catechumens are blessed and the Sacred Chrism is consecrated at this time. These holy oils impact the lives of those who are preparing to enter into the Church, those who are ill, and all preparing for confirmation and holy orders. In a sign of unity and fidelity, the priests of the diocese concele-brate the Mass with our bishop and recommit themselves to their priestly ministry.

Bishop’s Appeal Next Weekend We ask for your generosity in helping the parish meet our goal for the Diocesan Bishop’s Appeal. Envelopes are available in the back of the church. Thank you for your support.

LETTER FROM POPE FRANCIS THE “JOY OF THE GOSPEL”

The Proclamation of the Gospel—#282

The Missionary Power of Intercessory Prayer

This attitude becomes a prayer of gratitude to God for others. “First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you” (Rom 1:8). It is constant thank-fulness: “I give thanks to God always for you be-cause of the grace of God which was given you in Christ Jesus” (1 Cor 1:4); “I thank my God in all my remembrance of you” (Phil 1:3). Far from being sus-picious, negative and despairing, it is a spiritual gaze born of deep faith which acknowledges what God is doing in the lives of others. At the same time, it is the gratitude which flows from a heart attentive to others. When evangelizers rise from prayer, their hearts are more open; freed of self-absorption, they are desirous of doing good and sharing their lives with others.

Fr. Terry’s Remarks— One of the lovely benefits of praying for others is that we become part of an ever increasing family. However, we are not living too close so we don't feel too much pressure. So like Paul we are able; ''to give thanks to God through Je-sus Christ for everyone of them''. At this time when we see so much rancor all around us, instead of giv-ing way to frustration and resentment let us all start praying more for each other, so that more and more of us become missionaries of love and forgiveness. Our world needs us to draw closer to each other to see people, to recognize every person as a brother or sister, as a child of God sent on earth to enrich our lives; above all with generous humanity, graceful tolerance and find in every soul an aspect of the God who has created them. Evangelization is not just about bringing others to Jesus. It is also about we ourselves discovering the infinite beauty of God in each one.
