CONFESSION The Rev. Amanda Moseng *PRAYER OF CONFESSION1
Steadfast Lover of humanity, we come to you searching for ways
to love more wisely, more genuinely, more steadily. Forgive us for
the brokenness in our relationships, the brokenness in our hearts.
Fill us with the love of Christ, that each day we may be more
passionate and patient, more faithful and forgiving, growing in
love for one another and all people, everywhere. By your Spirit,
make us worthy to bear your name and to be your witness in this
world that you so love. In the name of the Christ who challenges
us, convicts us, and through whom we are forgiven and set free, we
pray. Amen. (Silence is kept.)
*ASSURANCE OF GOD’S GRACE Leader: In the name of Jesus Christ,
you are forgiven. People: In the name of Jesus Christ, you are
forgiven. Thanks be to God.

Chancel Choir I would be true - Howard A. Walter
I would be true, for there are those who trust me; I would be
pure, for there are those who care; I would be strong, for there is
much to suffer; I would be brave, for there is much to dare, I
would be brave, for there is much to dare.
I would be friend of all, the foe, the friendless; I would be
giving, and forget the gift; I would be humble, for I know my
weakness; I would look up, and laugh, and love, and lift, I would
look up, and laugh, and love, and lift.

ANNOUNCEMENTS Human Relations Day (see enclosed special giving
envelope) - Your generous gifts support ministries of social
justice and outreach. Join us for an Open House after each worship
service today. The COTS Jr Youth Room has been completely redone
and is now the coolest gathering space in the church - according to
everyone who has seen it so far. Come and see one of the outcomes
of your stewardship dollars - both to Church of the Saviour and to
the Church of the Saviour Foundation - and how you are supporting
this vital ministry. Former COTS member, Hannah McCandless, is the
Managing Director of The Recreation Project, based in Gulu, Uganda.
Founded in 2010 in the wake of a long civil war, The Recreation
Project has become a symbolic place of healing and hope for the
rapidly growing region. Please join Hannah in the Great Hall this
morning at 11 am to hear about this important ministry. Yee Chy is
retiring as head custodian after 38 years at Church of the Saviour.
We are collecting a gift of appreciation to present to him at his
farewell reception in the Parlor on Sunday, February 2 from 10:30 –
11 am. Please note in the memo line of the check that this is for
Yee, or put cash in an envelope and indicate it is for Yee. All are
invited to join Pastor Amanda Moseng for a deeper study of the
Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7), the scripture passage for our
current sermon series. The study will meet on Wednesdays at 10 am
from January 22 through February 26 in room 100. The only materials
needed are your Bible and a heart that seeks to know God’s word.
The next Breathe Respite is scheduled for February 21. Would you
like to join us as a volunteer and make a difference in the lives
of children with special rights and their families? Training for
new volunteers will take place on the following dates in
-
the Howson Room, (#161): Wednesday, January 22: 6-7 pm, or
Monday, February 3: 6-7 pm. Questions? Contact Laura Moseley at
[email protected]. All women of Church of the Saviour and the
community are invited to a Retreat on "What's Your Story? Seeing
Your Life through God's Eyes” by Sara Heath on Saturday, Feb. 8
from 9 am - 2 pm in the Parlor. Christine Elliott will lead with
participation by Rev. Lois Annich. The retreat will include both
large and small group discussion, Bible study, and journaling in
creative ways. It will be a great opportunity to meet other women
and begin new friendships! Cost is $15 per person, which includes
the book, morning coffee, and lunch. Register in the church office
by February 5. Child care will be provided. It’s time for Derek
Yost’s 11th annual “Valentine Hearts for Haiti” baking mission. All
sales will again support the Methodist School in DonDon, Haiti. We
will take cookie orders at church between all services on Sunday,
January 26 and February 2. We will deliver the cookies and have
walk up sales available with a limited quantity at our table on
Sunday, February 9 in the COTS Café. By baking one cooking at a
time, COTS has raised over $20,000 for the students in DonDon. Men,
you are invited. Every Thursday morning COTS men gather in the
parlor at 7 am to study this week’s Bible Lectionary readings. It’s
your chance to gather, reflect and grow. Join us for this midweek
opportunity. Please bring non-perishable food items or a
contribution to our annual food drive for the annual Souper Bowl of
Caring on Sunday, Feb. 2. COTS Youth and the Softball Team will be
collecting donations after all three services. 100% of all
donations are split evenly between the Cory Hunger Center and the
Heights Emergency Food Center. Help us "Tackle Hunger"! Also please
join us for the 12th Annual Big Game Watch Party and Chili Cook-Off
in the Great Hall
-
starting at 6 pm on Sunday, Feb. 2. Please bring a chili to
compete or a side dish/dessert to share. Join your church family in
an evening of fellowship, enjoying the game or the commercials, and
sampling some spectacular chilis. Questions? Eric at
[email protected]. Please join us in the Parlor after worship
for a time of fellowship and refreshments, hosted by Metro
Ministries.
