Reflections ~ Reflexiones GGoossppeell MMaatttthheeww:: 2222::
11--1144 oorr 2222:: 11--1100 This is a story that actually
happened: When a groom-to-be called off the wedding, the bride
decided to go ahead with the wedding banquet. Instead of inviting
friends and relatives, she invited some homeless people. These
unlikely guests in their thrift-shop clothes had a wonderful time.
And the bride who didn't become a bride had the joy of sharing her
banquet with them. This story is very similar to today's gospel and
the parable Jesus tells about the feast hosted by God. The invited
guests do not show up, so other guests are gathered from the
streets and invited to share the table and the joy. Sometimes we
might ignore God's invitation. 1.) Do we recognize that God has an
invitation for us every day? How can we receive and accept it? Have
you ever thought that other things were more important, or that you
were too busy to accept God's invitation to Eucharist, sacraments,
prayer, or doing something pleasing to God and helpful to
others?
GGOOSSPPEELL MMAATTEEOO:: 2222:: 11--1144 OO 2222:: 11--1100
sacramentos, a orar, a hacer algo agradable a Dios o ayudar a
otro?

DDRREESSSS TTHHEE PPAARRTT The Gospel today has some surprising
twists. A king is hosting his son's wedding feast. Guests are
invited--surely a great honor. But some invitees are too busy and
refuse. Others get angry and attack the messengers. The king
punishes those who murdered his servants and opens up the
banquet to anyone. The hall fills up with a motley crew of
guests. The king spots one man who is not dressed for the occasion
and cannot explain why, so he is thrown out. Yet wasn't the man
pulled in off the street? Yes, but the king had a wedding garment
for each guest, and this man did not bother to pick one up, thereby
insulting his host. We are all invited to the table of the Lord.
Our outer wedding garment is to dress with care and respect. Our
inner garment is to "put on Christ," clothing ourselves in his love
and goodness in order to be worthy of the Kingdom .Copyright (c)

BBaannqquueett:: The mountain of the Lord described in today’s
first reading is a place where there is no more hunger, no more
weeping, and no more division of any kind. We need to pause and
ponder these images every now and then, especially given the fact
that we live in such a fractured world. The responsorial psalm
continues to paint a picture of a place where only goodness and
kindness flourish. These readings describe the heavenly banquet, to
which God calls each of us through baptism and continues to call us
throughout our lives. Let us “RSVP” to God’s invitation and live
our lives consistent with gospel values so that one day we will be
welcomed to the table of the kingdom. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.,

TTrreeaassuurreess FFrroomm OOuurr TTrraaddiittiioonn::.— In
1971, the Vatican Congregation for Divine Worship completed a
survey of the presidents of the national liturgical commissions
around the world. How were children doing in the liturgical reform?
Probably to their surprise, the cardinals learned of special
weekday Masses for children designed to teach them how to
participate on Sunday, Masses with separate components for
children. The decision was made quickly to develop adaptations for
Masses where children were a majority of the assembly. Changes
would include a simpler structure, understandable texts, a
simplified Lectionary, more active participation, and most
surprisingly, new Eucharistic Prayers. By 1973 the work was done,
and with very specific advice from Pope Paul VI, including the need
for two new Eucharistic Prayers, the Directory for Masses with
Children was published on December 20, a timely Christmas gift for
the children of the world. The prayers are the first to be written
fresh in a modern language—not Latin, but French and German—then
translated into English, Italian, and Spanish. With a sense of
caution, these new prayers were approved for three years, until
1977, but it soon became apparent that they had truly been
embraced. —Rev. James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

CCoorrddiilleeoonnee The Consecration of the Archdiocese to the
Immaculate Heart of Mary took place last Saturday. Thousands of
Catholics gathered, marched, prayed, sang, and celebrated at St.
Mary's Cathedral and on the streets of San Francisco.
We are all blessed by this new state, and we each have a role to
play in its ongoing effectiveness. In his homily on Saturday,
Archbishop Cordileone asked that everyone in the Archdiocese commit
or recommit to acts of prayer, penance, and Adoration from the day
of the Consecration forward, for the purposes of saving souls from
hell and establishing peace in the world. He specifically asked
that:
● Every Catholic pray the rosary daily; and every family pray
the rosary together at least once a week
● Dedicate Friday as a day of penance (selecting a form of
bodily fasting according to one's own age and needs); ● Dedicate
time before the Blessed Sacrament weekly; ● Receive the Sacrament
of Reconciliation at least monthly ● Observe the First Five
Saturdays devotion once a year; *“Marian consecration basically
means giving Mary our full permission (or as much permission as we
can) to complete her motherly task in us, which is to form us into
other Christ’s. Thus, by consecrating ourselves to Mary, each of us
is saying to her: Mary, I want to be a saint. I know that you also
want me to be a saint and that it’s your God-given mission to form
me into one. So, Mary, at this moment, on this day, I freely choose
to give you full permission to do your work in me, with your
Spouse, the Holy Spirit” (Fr. Michael Gaitley) *
