SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER MAY 10, 2015 SEXTO DOMINGO DE PASCUA 10 DE MAYO, 2015

SESTA DOMENICA DI PASQUA 10 DI MAGGIO, 2015

“Then Peter proceeded to speak and said: ‘In truth, I see that God shows no partiality. Rather, in every nation whoever fears him and acts uprightly is acceptable to him.’ While Peter was still speaking these things the Holy Spirit fell upon all who were listening to the word. The circumcised believers who had accompanied Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit should have been poured out on the Gentiles also, for they could hear them speaking in tongues and glorifying God.” Sermons tell and teach. They tell of the wondrous work of God, and summon others to a deeper faith and holiness of life. The sermons of Peter and Paul in the Acts of the Apostles are short, concise and overwhelming. If they were not, why would the primitive church have experienced such great and rapid growth. Through the power of the Spirit, manifest through the words of the successor of Je-sus Christ, Peter convinced his hearers of the powerful presence of the Holy Spirit in their lives. The church grew, the mission entrusted to the apostles was accepted, and great change took place. Pope Francis in the ‘Joy of the Gospel’ renews this teaching. Today we listen to sermons, meet charismatic evangelizers on TV and CD’s, and the Spirit of the Lord speaks through them. We too can be moved as were the first Christians. We are to move from head to heart, and then to action in behalf of the gospel. When was the last time you told someone about a good sermon you heard, a moving religious book you read, or recognized the pres-ence of the Lord in another person?

“Pace a voi!
