We invite all new members of our parish community to register at the Center. We also encourage you to join one of our numerous parish ministries, so that you may acquire a deeper sense of belonging and accomplishment serving the needs of others.

Celebration of the Eucharist Weekdays (Monday to Friday) at 9:30 a.m.

Saturdays at 5:00 p.m. (Vigil for Sunday)

Sundays at 8:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m. (Family Mass) and Noon

Holy days usually at 9:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. (Please check the bulletin or website.)

Becoming a Catholic or Adult Confirmation Are you interested in becoming Catholic? Were you never Confirmed and now find that you would like to complete your Sacraments of Initiation? Are you interested in finding out more about the Catholic faith? If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions, then Faith Formation is for you! Call the Parish Center for more information.

Baptism Baptisms are celebrated on various Sundays throughout the year at 1:15 p.m. You are encouraged to register for the baptism BEFORE YOUR CHILD IS BORN, so that it is easier to attend the required Baptism Preparation Class. Please call the Center and we will be happy to set up an appointment. Many parents also use this opportunity to register in the Parish as a new parishioner. Information about Godparents is available on the website.

Marriage We are happy to arrange for your wedding. First, we have the marriage interview and then we can set the date for the wedding. More information is available on the website. Please call the Center for an appointment and we will be happy to help you!

Reconciliation Confessions are heard in our Church Reconciliation Room (in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel) on Saturdays from 4:00 until 4:45 p.m. You are also welcome to call the Center and make an appointment to celebrate the Sacrament.

Anointing of the Sick We encourage all those eligible for this Sacrament to be anointed after the Noon Mass on the first Sunday of the month or by calling the Center. Those eligible are those who are about to undergo an operation; are suffering from serious illness and the condition has worsened; or are enduring the weakening effects of advancing age and it has been one year since they were last anointed.

God Put the Wiggle in Children, So……..

To parents of young children:

May we suggest….RELAX!

God put the wiggle in children. Don’t feel you have to suppress it in God’s house.

All are welcome!

Sit towards the front where it is easier for your little ones to see and hear what is going on at the altar. They tire of seeing the backs of others!

Quietly explain the parts of the Mass and actions of the priest, choir, and other ministries. Help them find the hymns and prayers in the hymnals and booklets. Sing the hymns, participate in the liturgy and pray. Children learn about worship and liturgical behavior by copying you.

If you have to leave Mass with your child, feel free to do so, but please come back. As Jesus said, “Let the children come to me…” Remember that the way we welcome children in church directly affects the way they respond to the church, to God and to one another. Let them know that they are at home in His house of worship.

To the members of our parish:

The presence of children is a gift to the church and a reminder that our parish is growing. Please welcome our children and give a smile of encouragement to their parents.

First Reading: Death does not come from God. The jealousy of the devil brought death into the world. There is neither anything within God’s creatures nor in the way he created them that causes harm. From the beginning, God fashioned us for immortality . We were not made to perish because he made us in his own image - the divine image. Notice the echoes of the creation accounts from Genesis 1 and 2 in the reading.

Responsorial Psalm 30: The psalmist’s emphasis on the Lord rescuing him from his enemies and bringing him up from the netherworld relates to Wisdom’s description of how God made us for everlasting life with him. Even when we turn from him, God is faithful. In God, our sadness and grief will always turn to dancing, for we will never perish.

Second Reading: Paul invites the Corinthians to a “gracious act” of economic stewardship in support of the community at Jerusalem. He supports his invitation with the theological underpinning of Jesus Christ’s own example. Out of his richness, Jesus became poor and through his poverty, he became rich. God became human in Jesus Christ so that our humanity could be taken up into divinity through his Death, Resurrection and Ascension. Gospel: As Jairus and Jesus were making their way to the synagogue official’s home, a woman who was part of the large crowd following them reached out and touched Jesus’ cloak. She was now free from her twelve-year hemorrhages. Others then announce the death of Jairus’ daughter, but Jesus pays no attention to their words. Rather, he simply asks the synagogue official to have faith. Jairus must have fulfilled Jesus’ request, for Jesus took his daughter by the hand and, upon his word to arise, she did. These two healing miracles testify to the power of Jesus and his word. In Jesus is the presence of life, not death. This provides a connection to the passage from Wisdom in the First Reading.

St. E Melville-11

Bulletin Reflection Today’s reading from St. Paul explains the “divine

economy” of stewardship. “The relief of others

ought not to impoverish you; there should be a

certain equality. Your plenty...should supply their

need so their surplus may, in turn, one day supply

your need.”

Living Stewardship We are grateful this week for all stewards in our

parish who ask themselves, “What do I have to

share that might meet someone else’s need?”
