27TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME OCTOBER 8, 2017 PG. 3
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
The month of October is the month of the Rosary: a month specially dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. I am
so pleased to share with you that we are a parish that gives Mary, the Mother of God, due honor and veneration. We
have been celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Lucy, Jacintha and Fran-
cisco at Fatima. We all know the Holy Cross Priest, Father Patrick Peyton, the "Rosary Priest" of the 20th Century who
propagated the devotion to the Rosary as a Family Prayer. Do you remember his motto, “a family that prays together
stays together”?
Let me give you a short summary of the history. Rosary comes from the Latin word ROSARIUM, meaning
"crown of roses" or "garland of roses" which is a form of prayer used especially in the Catholic Church named for the
string of knots or beads used to count the ten Hail Marys for each decade. The Rosary is prayed while meditating the
mysteries or events in the life of Mary and Jesus. Hence, we call it Marian and Christocentric. The late St. John Paul II
of our time said, “Through the Rosary the faithful receive abundant grace, as by the hands of the Mother of the Re-
deemer”. In the 16th Century, Pope Pius V established the grouping of the mysteries in three sets: the Joyful, Sorrowful
and Glorious. In 2002, Pope John Paul II added the new set of mysteries called the Luminous.
I wish to invite you to the special day of prayer to commemorate the centennial celebration of Our Lady of
Fatima, on Friday, 13th of October beginning at 7PM with Mass and a Healing Service to follow. Also, in conjunction
with the whole country, there will be a public rosary rally on Saturday, October 14th at 12PM in front of the Amboy
Road Parking lot. Please join us.
During the month of October, our students both in the Catholic school and the Religious Education Program will
pray a decade of the Rosary before they begin classes. May I recommend that all families make it a habit to say at least
a decade of the Rosary at home at some time during the day or night.
This past Monday, October 2, the Parish Pastoral Council had its first meeting of the year. It was well attended.
All the appointed members were reappointed by letter prior to it. In keeping with the bylaws, the office bearers
(chairperson and secretary) were elected for another term of three years. We had one new volunteer member and two
representing the sports groups. I regret that two of the sport leaders were absent.
On a congratulatory note, I wish to state that the principal of the school, Mr. Nick Fargione shared with us the
test results of the Catholic Schools of New York State. Our schools scored the highest and we are proud of their per-
formance. May they continue to grow and be a blessing to all of us. I wish to thank all the members for your enthusias-
tic and lively participation in all that concern the betterment of the parish. To listen to the speech of the Superintendent
of Schools for the Archdiocese of New York, Dr. Timothy McNiff, go to: Timothy McNiff (@DrTimothyMcNiff) /
Twitter.
On Saturday, November 11, we hope to celebrate Veterans Day with some solemnity. We kindly request the
veterans in the parish to look for more details regarding this celebration in the coming weeks. One of the PPC members
will contact you in due course of time.
We are preparing to forward the funds we collected for hurricanes and earthquakes to our brothers and sisters in
Puerto Rico and Mexico to the archdiocese. I wish to thank you for your generosity and support.
We are getting ready to launch the “Renew and Rebuild” campaign. I shall give more details as time goes on.
Please accept my heartfelt thanks for the contributions to the Cardinal’s Appeal Campaign 2017 which is coming to a
close. Our total in pledges is $ 59,548.
If you haven’t already, please join FORMED. It is a wonderful Catholic website with many Catholic Resources.
It is being used in our Religious Education Program, and it has helped the students learn more about our Catholic Faith.
These resources can also be enjoyed in your home. Please go to FORMED.org and use our Parish Code, which is
6JH9M3 to sign up .
May God Bless you, Fr. Frank
