Distracted It is official. We are the most distracted people in history. All of our “i” devices and electronics mixed with faster internet speeds, 4G LTE, and soon to be released 5G, has thrust us into a world of constant entertainment. Entertainment on demand, social media, and texting interrupts us for a minimum of 8 hours a day. I still remember watching the first episode of He-Man when I was a kid. He-Man was my favorite because his true identity was Prince Adam, so naturally I thought I was He-Man. Funny thing was, I had to wait an entire week to watch the next episode! And I couldn’t watch previous episodes because we didn’t have a VCR to record them for me. As I think back on it, how did I possibly survive?! I guess I engaged the real world around me as I explored my neighborhood on my bike.

The Battle What are the results of all these distractions and “on-demand” lifestyle? Just to name a few: shorter attention spans; the need for more fulfillment; and a need for more entertainment. This can create a major problem as we seek to follow God. I’ll use a personal example. I have played a video game for more than three hours and been disappointed when I had to turn it off. There was a feeling that I didn’t have enough yet and that I was enjoying my time and investment. At that same point in my life, I could spend about 10 minutes in personal Bible study and feel like I had exhausted my time with God. Am I saying that if you play video games or find enjoyment in them that you are a terrible person? Absolutely not, but I am saying, pay attention to the rhythms in your life that battle for your time, attention, and most importantly your soul.

Bored to Death I think we have become afraid of one of the most creative-inspiring elements of life: boredom. It’s ok to be bored, in fact I hope you find yourself bored at times. You see, when you are bored, then you have a chance to discover a new way to pay attention and engage life. Take a moment and read Acts 20:7-12 and you read about one of Paul’s sermons that dragged on so long that it killed a young boy. I guess you could say the kid was bored to death. But even with the distraction of Eutychus’ accident, death, and revival, Paul continued to preach the Word of God. Why? Was Paul insensitive to the seriousness of what happened? No. Paul realized the urgency of relaying the salvation of Jesus Christ to those people present. Many of us probably would be bored to death today if Paul droned on so long during one of our services. After all, we have busy schedules to keep, social media to update, and our next season on Netflix to get to. Let’s begin to find Jesus in our boredom.

Celebrations

• We had a few students graduate this year! Kiera Duby and Kylie Jones both

graduated from Kenai Central High School. We had the chance to celebrate that

and encourage them this past Sunday for our Graduation Sunday service.

• Summer has officially begun! We’ve made it through another school year. It’s been

a wild, but great year and has been great seeing how students have grown

throughout the past school year.

Coming Up

• SUMMER CAMP IS APPROACHING! This year, camp for middle school and high

schoolers, is happening from July 8th – July 12th. The cost for camp is $165 if you

sign up before the early registration deadline, and $195 if you sign-up past the

deadline. The deadline is June 9th so make sure you sign up to save some extra

bucks! You can grab a sign up sheet in the high school room, or talk to Caleb.

But! We also have exciting news! You can also sign up for camp online at

greatlandchristiancamp.org! So be sure to start marking those calendars and filling

out forms to send your kids to camp this year!

25 Years of Dedication TCM International Institute hosted its 25th graduation service at the Stift Heilegenkreuz, Austria on Sunday May 5, 2019. Forty-eight graduates from 19 countries earned diplomas this academic year. TCM President Tony Twist stated “This graduation is a celebration of disciple making throughout the nation’s of the world. We are grateful for this celebration. This is the largest number of graduates TCM has ever had in one year”. As each graduate received his or her diploma from President Twist, he encouraged each recipient with this statement “This diploma is being con-ferred for our Lord and His Kingdom’s sake!” Currently TCM has over 1,500 students from more than 40 nations enrolled in either its Master of Arts or Master of Divinity courses of study.
