Since 2013, (Christopher) Alexander Reyes chose to work with the Nanaimo African Heritage Society in support of our initiatives to promote and educate the community about Black History and Black contributions to our society as well as promoting cultural diversity; which was a perfect fit for Alex, to continue his mission that he started overseas in 2012. He has spent time in Tanzania and Nicaragua volunteering with Canada World Youth. Alex participated in many cultural events as a performer and prominent youth speaker at community engagements through his music and lyrics, which inspired the audience (representing all age groups,) voicing positive messages relating to each of the United Nations Millenium Developmental Goals. His involvement in our 15th Annual Black History Month celebration, as a key person in promoting youth action in our cultural community. 2. Alex was a vital part of the Black History Month round table panel discussion on Shaw TV in 2015. He spoke on topics such as cultural diversity, helping to promote a basis for universal primary education in our communities, while spreading awareness of the historical contributions of Black Pioneers in BC and Canada and the world as a whole. He is a passionate and eloquent speaker and presents himself in a positive and welcoming light. And interacts well with others while presenting himself in a professional capacity. 3. His ability to engage with large audiences during our annual celebrations, talking about gender equality and for the youth of all cultures, to have NANAIMO AFRICAN HERITAGE SOCIETY
