What caused these atmospheric CO2 changes ?
Question raises a big attribution problem.

What oceanic feedbacks work for rising CO2?
The big questions - 2

We did not solve big question 1 (but we showed what perhaps may work)

big question 2 – a partial solution

big question 2 – the details
Iron fertilisation: The increase of the biological production did not result in a substantial increase of CO2 uptake by the ocean, as it has been proposed by Martin et al. (1990).
Labile DOC: The results reveal that the concentration of dissolved organic carbon in surface water is about 300 μM and decreases with depth. Sugimura and Suzuki, Marine Chemistry (1988) Maier-Reimer et al. – Stimmenthaltung (im Gegensatz zu vielen anderen…) Suzuki, Marine Chemistry (1993) – data from 1988 were retracted
Ocean acidification: …
Dealing with “hot topics” - Examples

acidification feedbacks, A1B scenario:

going back to big question 1 – the paleo CO2
We model a sediment sequence, ”drill” into it, and ”recover” synthetic sediment cores.
