THE HASHEMITE KINGDOM OF JORDAN

Christmas Special 2013

Discover the breathtaking scenery of “Laurence of Arabia”

The nature in Jordan is very diverse, breathtakingly beautiful and rugged. One of its natural won-

ders is the most impressive desert landscape in the world; Wadi Rum. This vast, echoing and color-

ful desert is a true paradise for nature lovers. The ride takes you from the mountainous area of

Petra with stunning views to the vast sand plains and steep rock formations of Wadi Rum.

Accommodation and food & beverage:

During this unique trip by horse through Jordan's nature you will stay overnight in dome tents with

mattresses. These tents can be shared by 2 people of used as single tent and you put up and take

down your own tent every day, off course assistance is given when needed.

Since we are trekking from one place to another in the nature, the sanitary facilities will be very

basic.

Every morning and evening you can wash yourself; we have cans, tiles, soap and water for this.

Daily you will enjoy delicious Arabic dishes. For breakfast this will be: eggs, cheese, hummus, zait

and zater, cake, jam, cucumber, tomato, fruits, bread, tea and coffee, lunch: can be warm dishes

with chicken , vegetable and rice, or different kind of salads and bread, depending on the weather

and the wishes of the guests, dinner: this will be 3 course with every night a different kind of soup,

dishes like ‘sanniya’ (warm dish with vegetables, potatoes and chicken),‘maglouba’ (rice with spices

and chicken or meat and vegetables), barbeque, fried fish, vegetables, kofta, always combined with

fresh salads and as dessert: fresh fruit and baklava with tea. Tea will always

be served and water and soft drinks will be available at all times in the cool

box.

We have catered for many vegetarians, so also this is no problem for our

chef. (He will not even use chicken stock for the soup)

Horses & riding:

You will mainly ride Arabian horses from Jordan, Syria and Iraq, some are

crossbreeds. Riders must be fit, able to trot, canter and gallop at ease and

have experience in trail riding. Guests are allowed to take care of their own

horse with water, food, brushing and saddling each stop. We have a differ-

ent range in horses, from really quiet to quite active. None of the horses are bad tempered as in

bucking or rearing up.

All saddles are English style and made from leather, every horse has a bit and English leather bridle

according to his temperament. The saddle blankets have pockets for a water bottle, camera, sun

cream, etc. So this can be taken along during riding. The jeep will take the luggage and will be

available for the guests on every lunch and dinner/camping stop.

Support team:

There will be an Arabic/ English speaking guide by horse on the tour and a support team of a chef

and a helper or more staff, depending on the amount of guests, average 1 jeep per 5 -6 guests, or a

1 cabin jeep with 8 guests, 2 jeeps with more then 6 – 9 guests. And even 2-3 jeeps & drivers with

12 – 15 riders.

With 4 days we have the same staff and jeeps in the north area of Wadi Rum, with 5 and 6 days

riding, we have to change the jeeps into jeeps from the protected area on the 4th

day in the morn-

ing. This will be no problem for the guests. The jeeps will carry the luggage, cooking & camping ma-

terials, water and food for the horses & materials for the horse, we have first Aid kit for the guests

and medicine if needed for the horses.

Page 3: Christmas special 2013 individual version

Day 1: Arrival day

You arrive this day at Amman Airport and will be assisted by our airport representative in getting

an individual visa, the cost is 20 JOD per passport. Transfer by car and English speaking driver to the

3* hotel in the nice town Madaba. You check in the hotel. The hotels we work with in Madaba are

all family run hotels.

Madaba is a mostly Christian town and the centre is in walking distance of the hotels.

You can visit the St. George church and we can recommend you a very nice Jordanian dinner at the

local and unique style restaurant: Haret Djoudna. This is located in the same street as the church

and the same street with nice souvenir and local shops.

Overnight at the 3* Mariam Hotel (this has a swimmingpool, restaurant and bar) or the 3* Rumman

Hotel, very nice family hotel also with restaurant or the 3* Salome hotel, also a family run hotel, all

these hotels are located in the same street and very close to each other!

Day 2: Departure to and visit Petra

At 08.30 AM all the guests/ riders will be picked up from the hotel in Madaba, depending on the

amount of guests this will be in a car with English speaking driver or a minivan and in case of a lar-

ger groups, 2 minivans and English speaking drivers. The drive to Petra will be about 3 hours.

Upon arrival in Petra, we see if the hotel can already check in the guests with their luggage and af-

ter that the driver will walk with them to the entrance of Petra and organizes the entrée tickets and

the private guide for the group! The guide will go for the 3 hour City tour in Petra via the Siq, treas-

ury, façade of tombs, the colonnaded street, until the location of the restaurants. Here he will leave

the group to have free time. The guest can choose in which restaurant they would like to eat and

spend the rest of the day as they like.

They can climb up to the monastery or even do the high place of Sacrifice. When they come back to

the hotel, close by there is a Turkish bath, great experience espe-

cially the steam bath, body scrub and soap massage, since it will

relax the muscles. Today is Christmas, so the hotel has a special

Christmas dinner party which is included in your stay!

The evening before the horse tour

Tonight your host/guide will meet you in your hotel and you can

ask him questions about your tour. He will also explain the pro-

gram, discuss more details, ask for special wishes and diets and

about the riding experience of each client, so he can select the

correct horses suitable for each rider. Also this evening the guide

gives each rider a Jordanian scarf (Kafihe).

The meeting will be around 20.30 PM

Page 4: Christmas special 2013 individual version

Day 3: Start of the 4 days riding!

This morning all the guests will have a transfer around 08.30 am from the hotel in Petra to the sta-

ble of Jessica and Rami (10 minutes drive). Please dress in horse riding outfit and take the needed

things with you for the riding (helmet, sun cream and camera). We will provide water bottles for

drinking.

At arrival at the stable Rami or the guide will select a suitable horse for each rider.

The horses are already brushed and saddled.

After all the riders have a horse and got on, the tour will start from the stable and takes you di-

rectly into the mountains with great view over Petra. The beginning is rocky area and we always

recommend wearing a riding helmet on the first day. The first part this morning will be riding for 3

hours via the mountains, via the back of Taybet, through the beautiful Rajev village, where will be

the first lunch under Prince Hassan castle, at an area with natural springs and tree gardens with

amazing views over Petra and Wadi Araba.

The support team is already there and laid out the mattresses and the ropes/chains for the horses.

When the guests arrive; the horses receive care first with water and food and then the guests can

relax and will be served lunch and drinks.

The lunch/rest will be for about 2 hours (depending on the time of the year with daylight)

After lunch the ride is about 2 -2.5 hours via mountain area, the viewpoint of Dlaaga and then de-

scending down to Wadi Thugra, there will be more possibilities for trotting and cantering and the

riders will be already used to their horses by now.

We make camp in Wadi Thugra! When we arrive, again the horses are tied first and the saddles are

taken off, the horses are given water and food, then the guests can set up their tents. Tea is already

made and by the time everyone sits down, dinner will be served on a table (small buffet style).

If there is wood, a campfire is made and the first evening under the starts can be enjoyed!

Page 5: Christmas special 2013 individual version

Day 4: Breakfast is usually served around 07.30 – 08.00 am, the guests take down their tent, brush

and saddle their horses and the riding usually starts at 09.00 – 09.30 am.

The jeep will be loaded again and will catch up with the group later and drive towards the lunch

location where they will all meet again.

The riding will be via a small Bedouin village into a desert area, the riding will be about 2.5 hours

until the 3 trees for lunch, the only shady place in this area.

The rest for lunch will be about 3 hours and again, first the horses are taken care of, but of course

the mattresses and tea is ready for the guests and soon after lunch is served. Most of the time after

lunch the riders will take a short nap in the shade.

After the lunch, everyone brushes and saddles his horses and the riding will be now via the town

Humayma, here we cross the Desert High Way. We get off the horses and take them by hand. Be-

cause of the speed bumps the traffic is slow in the area and easy to cross.

On the other side, everyone will get on and then we ride into the Kharaza area of Wadi Rum, the

north area.

Here is also a nice opportunity for a trot and canter. The riding is about 2 - 2.5 hours to the camp

location.

The second night we always camp in a beautiful U shape rock and sand area with bushes. From

here when it is full moon, you can see the moon rising over the mountains and in the morning a

beautiful sunrise.

Day 5: After breakfast, everyone brushes and saddles the horses and the third day of riding begins

in a very stunning part of the desert, also a part where it is not busy with tourism at all.

Today we will see a small rock bridge, the "Mushroom", a nice path for cantering, then again 2 rock

bridges and inscriptions. The riding will be 2 – 2,5 hours until the lunch location. We have made

sure this is in the shade. Again it is time to relax, enjoy the lunch, maybe a small nap, or take your

time to make pictures and enjoy the scenery.

After lunch we cross into a sandy area with a nice long canter path. By now everyone knows his/her

horse and can enjoy a nice long canter through the desert. In this area the sand has many colors

and it is very nice for taking pictures while riding. The riding will be 2,5 - 3 hours until the camp lo-

cation, this night we stay in a small canyon out of the wind and nice and sandy for the horses and

the tents.

Camp is made, the horses taken care of and then the dinner will be served and a campfire will be

made.

Page 6: Christmas special 2013 individual version

Day 6:

Last day of riding! After breakfast we brush and sad-

dle the horses and ride via the mudflat, where we

can do a gallop with the horses, 2 by 2. Again this is

a beautiful area. We ride towards the desert village

of Disi.

There is a area with natural springs and this has

made a beautiful oasis in the desert with high trees,

grass, water and a small pond for swimming if the

weather is good. Where the lunch is prepared the horses can be washes with the water hoses, they

will enjoy the water after a few days desert and the horses love to eat the grass. Most of the riders

enjoy this part very much. While the lunch is served the horses are drying in the sun. A small

heaven on earth for all! After lunch we ride via the mud flat, where we can do a good canter! Then

we ride into the last part of the desert; also with a nice gallop before we let the horses to walk to

cool down before reaching the set camp for the last night. The camp is called Oasis Desert Camp,

the horses are tight in the beginning area, while the guests can have a warm shower and a bed to

sleep in tonight. Dinner is served and if wished, we can play music this evening. Have a nice eve-

ning, the last evening in the desert.
