MOVIES

Asterix and Obelix in Britain

Here is a movie you should watch over Christmas! Asterix and Obelix inBritain is the newest Asterix movie. Unlike most other Asterix mov-ies, there are real humans acting the characters making it more fun. The movie is multiple Asterix albums mixed in each other.

Here is the story: The Romans are invading Britain and one of the British ones are going to Gaul to fetch some magic potion. Meanwhile, Asterix and Obelix are training the chief’s nephew Justforkix to become one that likes the village. When the British, who are called Fixfax, arrives Miraculix (Ge-tafix) makes some magic potion and lets Fixfax, Asterix, Obelix and Just-

forkix (Sorry, Idefix -Dogmatix- isstaying at home in Gaul but he is in the movie) carry it to Britain. But Cesar has hired a terrible weapon, the vikings!

There is lots of humour like when the queen’s dogs first gets hit by a cata-pult rock and survives and the next time you see them, they are wrapped up in bandages over their whole body except for their face! And when theRomans are about to win, suddenly one triangle of Romans are flying awayby what?

Well you have to see for yourself! It is a really fun movie thanks to all the humour. It is worth four and a half stars!

REVIEWSS

BOOKS

I’ve read a really fantastic book and I would like to share a review with you!

Corby Flood is the second book in the series Fjärran Äventyr that is written and illustrated by Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell. The first book in the series is Fergus Crane and the third book is Hugo Pepper.

When Corby and her family are trav-eling aboard S.S Euphonia she hears a sad song. That starts her big ad-venture as she travels to the town of Doraklia to stop the clowns’ brother-hood and save the creature inside the wooden box.

Take a ride aboard the boat with me-chanic self-walking chairs together with Corby and her brothers who play deck-sports very roughly and make foodwar (the brothers, not Corby).

I give this book 4 stars, because you laugh a lot because of what happens to the characters. For example when Jon-Julius says: “I must say, the food is just...”, Arthur picks up the bowl of coconut-milk and pours it over Jon-Julius! And another time when the clowns brotherhood tries to avoid the food, somebody laughs and the leader says: “Nobody laughs at the clowns broth- blobb-blobb,”... because he gets some rice pudding in the face!

Why not read the book and find out more!

EGG NOG FOR KIDS!

Canada celebrates Christmas much like other countries in the Western

world.

Here is a recipe if you would like to try to make this delicious drink at

home:

IT’S CHRIIIIIIIITMAAAAAS... so it must be time to make some yummy

gingerbread. Here is a recipe to try.

GINGERBREAD RECIPES

6 cups all purpose flour1 3/4 cups sugar2/3 cups shortening1 tablespoon ground cinnamon1 tablespoon ground ginger2 teaspoons double-acting baking powder1 1/4 teaspoons salt1 teaspoon baking soda1 teaspoon vanilla extract1 eight-ounce container sour cream2 eggs

To prepare dough: Into large bowl, ,measure 3 1/2 cups flour and remaining ingredients. With mixer at low speed, beat until well mixed, constantly scraping bowl with rubber spatula. With hand, knead in remaining 2 1/2 cups flour to make a soft dough. Wrap dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate 2 hours or until dough is not sticky and is of easy kneading consis-tency.

To roll dough: Keep refrigerated until ready to use. Working with half of a batch at a time on a lightly floured work surface with lightly floured hands, knead dough until smooth. Then on a greased and floured 17” x 14” cookie sheet, with lightly floured rolling pin roll dough to 3/16” or 1/8” thickness. You can use dowels of the same size at either side of the dough on the cookie sheet to help create a uniform thickness. (For easy

rolling, place cookie sheet on a damp cloth to prevent it from slipping.)

To cut and bake dough: Make your pattern pieces of heavy cardboard. Lay them on the dough and using a sharp knife use as many pieces as you can from the rolled dough on your cookie sheet, leaving at least 1/2” inch between the pieces. Remove scraps and re-serve for re rolling.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. (Place cookie sheet in the refrigerator if there is room while the oven preheats.)

Bake until golden brown and very firm when lightly touched with your finger. Remove cookie sheet from oven and cool on wire rack 5 minutes. Carefully remove the baked piec-es from cookie sheet and place on wire rack to cool completely.

Note: If you need to do some trimming do it while the cookie dough is warm out of the oven. You may need to make several batches of dough to complete your project, but don’t multiply and try to do it all at once...the pro-cess just doesn’t work that way.

Last ChristmasSung by Wham!

Last Christmas I gave you my heart But the very next day you gave it away

This year to save me from tears I’ll give it to someone special

Last Christmas I gave you my heart But the very next day you gave it away (You gave it away)

This year to save me from tears I’ll give it to someone special (Special)

Once bitten and twiceI’ll keep my distance but you still catch my eye

Tell me baby,do you recognize me?Well, it’s been a year, it doesn’t surprise me (Happy Christmas)

I wrapped it up and sent it With a note saying ‘I love you,’ I meant itNow I know what a fool I’ve been

But if you kissed me now I know you’d fool me againLast Christmas I gave you my heart

But the very next day you gave it away(You gave it away)This year to save me from tears I’ll give it to someone special (Special)

Last Christmas I gave you my heart But the very next day you gave it away

This year to save me from tears I’ll give it to someone special (Special) Oh, oh my baby

Crowded room, friends with tired eyes I’m hiding from you and your soul of ice

My god, I thought you were someone to rely on Me, I guess I was a shoulder to cry on

A face on a lover with a fire in his heart A man undercover but you tore him apart Ooh hoo, now

All I Want For Christmas Is YouSung by Mariah Carey

There’s just one thing I needI don’t care about the presentsUnderneath the Christmas tree

I just want you for my ownMore than you could ever know

Make my wish come trueAll I want for Christmas is...

YouI don’t want a lot for ChristmasThere’s just one thing I need

I don’t care about the presentsUnderneath the Christmas treeI don’t need to hang my stocking

There upon the fireplaceSanta Claus won’t make me happy

With a toy on Christmas dayI just want you for my own

More than you could ever knowMake my wish come true

All I want for Christmas is youYou baby

I won’t ask for much this ChristmasI don’t even wish for snow

LuciaNatten går tunga fjät runt gård och stuva.Kring jord som sol förlät, skuggorna ruva.Då i vårt mörka hus, stiger med tända ljus,

Sankta Lucia, Sankta Lucia.Då i vårt mörka hus, stiger med tända ljus,

Sankta Lucia, Sankta Lucia.Natten var stor och stum. Nu hör det svingar,

i alla tysta rum, sus som av vingar.Se på vår tröskel står vitkläd, med ljus i hår,

Sankta Lucia, Sankta Lucia.Se på vår tröskel står vitkläd, med ljus i hår,

Sankta Lucia, Sankta Lucia.“Mörkret skall flykta snart ur jordens dalar.”

A Classic Christmas Story

The classic Christmas poem by Clement Clarke Moore, is also known as “The Night Before Christmas”. You will hear that Santa hasn’t changed a great deal since the poem was written in 1822, expect that he seemed to be ‘miniature’ back then, and he did not yet have a reindeer called Rudolf, though he did have Dasher, Dancer, Prancer and Vixen.

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the houseNot a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there. The children were

nestled all snug in their beds,While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads.

And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap. When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.Away to the window I flew like a flash,

Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash. The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snowGave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,But a miniature sleigh, and eight tinny reindeer.

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,

Page 18: CHRISTMAS ISSUE - Internationella Engelska Skolan · 2016-04-29 · Christmas! Asterix and Obelix in Britain is the newest Asterix movie. Unlike most other Asterix mov-ies, there

I knew in a moment it must be St Nick.More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,

And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!“Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!

On, Comet! On, Cupid! on, on Donner and Blitzen! To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!

Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!”As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,

When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,

With the sleigh full of Toys, and St Nicholas too.And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roofThe prancing and pawing of each little hoof.

As I drew in my head, and was turning around,Down the chimney St Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.

A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back,And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack. His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry! His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!

His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.

He had a broad face and a little round belly,That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.

And laying his finger aside of his nose,And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose.
