Dear Medina UMC:
Thank you for your continued partnership in the gospel.
Thank you for helping us fulfill the Great Commandment and
Great Commission mandates in Medina County.

Dear MUMC Family,
I am recovering well from my recent surgery. Thank you
for the prayers, flowers brought by Cindy Valentine, and prayer
square. It all means so much.
Blessings in the New Year, Dawn Rogers
Dear MUMC UMW,
Thank you for the beautiful tray of cookies and fruit.
There is nothing like a homemade cookie and I’m enjoying
every one of them.
Holiday Blessings, Betty M. Schaefer
To My Church Family,
I want to thank you so much for the thoughts, prayers and
concerns during my hip replacement surgery and recovery. I’m
still hobbling, but getting better. I want to especially thank
Jeanne Smith and Jill Towne for their visits. The food was
delicious and very appreciated! I look forward to reading the
book, and I sure enjoyed the company while I wasn’t getting up
and around too much.
Blessings, Ann Thomson
Dear MUMC,
Thank you for your ongoing support to our Home!
Sincerely, Joyce Giles, Medina County Home
Dear Church Family,
It is very humbling to be on the receiving end of so many
expressions of Christian concerns, get well wishes and love. I
have always known we have a very caring church family. This
was proven to me many times over during my recuperation for
back surgery. May God bless you all from the soup ministry,
cards, calls, visits, flowers and prayers.
Clay Smith
Dear Medina UMC,
Thanks for the delivered sweet plate from the Ladies
Guild.
Barbara & Bill Kovalchik
Thank you so very much for the turkey. How kind and sweet
of you to think of us at this time and to pray for us. We are
very grateful for you!

Dear Medina UMC Church Family,
We just received, in the mail, the Psalm 23 banner
with all of the sentiments from our church family. Words can't
fully express the deep-felt love we have for our MUMC family.
We cherish all of the notes, cards, and emails. Although we are
distant from you at this time we are with you in spirit. Thank
you from the bottom of our hearts.
Love to you all, Doug and Pat Elzerman

The Prayer Shawl Ministry received a generous dona-
tion of Home Spun Yarn which is used to make the
prayer shawls. We also have some yarn that can be
used to make prayer squares. If you would like to knit
or crochet a shawl or prayer squares, please call or see
Susan Hume in the Ministry Office. A big thank you to all who have
made and donated soup and cookies for the Soup Ministry, have made
cards throughout the year for persons on our Care List and Military List.
For all those who have attended Congregational Care meetings, helped
with the Ministry Fair, College Bags, and sending out birthday and anni-
versary cards, THANK YOU for a great year of caring.
Happy New Year! May God’s providence and blessing be with
you throughout 2014. It is my prayer that you will have a posi-
tively good year witnessing God’s interventions and opportuni-
ties for life and the Kingdom. Here are few things I want to ex-
press to you:
1. Thanks so much for all the Christmas cards and gifts you sent
our way: cookies, candy, gift cards, notes, Christmas greet-
ings and decorations to name a few. Chris and I deeply ap-
preciate your constant support and demonstrations of love and
gratitude. You are very special to us and we cherish all that
you mean to us. Blessings!
2. Congratulations for your exemplary generosity. A total of
$18,348 was collected for the Christmas offering ($10,336)
and for Heifer International project ($8,348). Thanks go to
Wil Geiss and Suzanne Shoemaker for their leadership in the
Heifer project.
3. There are a lot of groups and individuals to thank for making
things happen for the Christmas Season: the great Christmas
decorations, the “Heart to Heart class” special program, the
children’s Christmas play, the Christmas Cantata and our
Christmas Eve services. I do want to draw attention to the
scouts and scout leaders who braved the weather on Christ-
mas Eve to light the luminaries. They did such a good job that
their work made the list of weekly police calls noted in a re-
cent edition of the Post (a luminary caught fire around 3 am
Christmas and was extinguished by a passing Medina Town-
ship police cruiser. We do thank Medina Township PD for
their watchful eyes).
4. We again were able to pay in full our portions to the East
Ohio Conference Shared Ministries Fund and the Canal Dis-
trict. This came to a grand total of $84,177. Thank you again
for your commitment and generosity.
5. On November 26, 2013 the Administrative Council adopted
the 2014 budget as recommended by the Finance Committee.
It is a total of $718,762 which represents a 3.84% increase.
6. This past Sunday (January 5) we began a new sermon series
called “Promises for a Positively Good Year! Sometimes
the approach to God’s “very great and precious prom-
ises….”(II Peter 1:4) is washed with sentimentalism, wishful
thinking and presumption. But God’s promises are real and
they can take traction in our lives as we understand, know and
trust the One who made them. Sunday, January 12 we will be
looking at the promises linked to God’s strength for us.
COFFEE FELLOWSHIP NEEDS HELP: As many of you know, for months we have been working with temperamental and
unreliable coffee makers. If you would be willing to contribute toward a new coffee maker, place your donation in the coffee pot in
the Cafe. Thank you.
Menu: Sloppy Joes, Baked Beans,
Applesauce, and chips.
Peanut Butter Pie for dessert!
For a number of years, missions had a line item in the
General Budget in addition to the World Service Fund
of the United Methodist Church. Out of this line item
came support for our covenant relationships with se-
lected missionaries and various mission projects which
reach out to local, national and international concerns.
This arrangement however became increasingly diffi-
cult as we struggled to meet our first priority the re-
sponsibilities to the East Ohio Conference Shared Min-
istries. Because so many mission efforts historically
were funded through special offerings such as the recent
Heifer International Project, we began to utilize this
means to underwrite the mission line item. In addition,
a “general mission category” was added to the weekly
giving envelopes. This not only highlighted the priority
of missions but gave folks an opportunity to give spe-
cifically to missions. The last few years, the Finance
Committee has worked intently to construct the annual
budget with greater preciseness and clarity as to what
things cost and how money is spent. Therefore in the
2013 budget the mission line was removed to reflect
more accurately how this aspect of our work is funded.
It represents neither a decrease in funding nor any
change in the source of funding. When you mark your
envelope to give a portion of your weekly giving to “the
general mission fund” this is where it goes. The books
for 2013 have yet to be fully reported but from the pre-
liminary signs, Medina United Methodist Church has
given approximately $90,000 to local, national and in-
ternational endeavors.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! The staff and I are excited to get back to school after our two week + snow days break. This month we
will be exploring many themes including opposites, transportation, Eskimos and many letters and numbers. We will be exploring
a lot of “white beautiful junk” including cotton balls, shaving cream, tempera paint and “goop”. The teachers will be busy pre-
paring for parent/teacher conferences in February while we use an updated assessment process based on the Early Learning
Standards. This will help prepare our children for the increased demands that Kindergarten expects. Most importantly,
the staff values learning through play and using teachable moments to share God’s love and presence in their lives. Christ-
mas programs brought many children and parents into a church sanctuary for the first time and perhaps encouraging and lift-
ing them up in a way that only God can speak to them. We are looking forward to registration this month and expect classes
to fill quickly so we encourage our church family to take advantage of their early registration process. Blessings!

"After the Catch": All are welcome to
attend this class where we will take a
closer look at the biblical text and princi-
ples that were presented in the pastor's
sermon of the day. This class is ideal for
those individuals who want to learn more about the scriptures
that form the foundation of Dr. Dave's and Pastor Brandon's
Sunday sermons. This class meets in the conference room. For
more information, contact Bob McElroy at 330 289-2059.
Women’s Study of Beth Moore’s “Sacred Secret”: Jesus
wants to spend secret time with you—an interior relationship
that's unique to just you two. This new 6-session study explores
the theology of secrets. Secrets can be good or harmful. Some
need forgiveness, and some should be kept between you and
God. Discussion potential abounds without any expectation of
revealing personal, private information. The Wednesday night
session will begin January 22nd at 6:30 p.m. while the Monday
morning session begins January 27th at 9:30 a.m. For additional
information, please contact Diane McElroy, Ramona Gellick,
