As we start off on our NEW YEAR EXPEDITION I feel I should share
some Hollar Philosophy of inspiration, determination, and
constipation (opps I mean consternation)!
When possible be the windshield, not the bug. Be the bat, not
the ball. Be the honey not the bee sting. Watch where you step when
walking in a cow pasture, pockets of cow patties dot the field. You
will never win when pitted against a Holstein bull, walk away
alive, rather than duke it out and die (unless you have a rifle and
are a really, really, really good shot). Never touch an electric
fence without visually seeing if the fencer is plugged in or not
plugged in. Finally, do not test the cattle prod on yourself to see
if it is working, that is the start of a real bad day.

Campers for 2017 Camp—It is that Easy!
If you attended any of the three summer camps last year and want
to return; you could go for free in 2017. All you have to do is
recruit 2 new campers to attend any camp in 2017 (Kamp Kenwood,
Double “O” Camp, or Cloverbud/Explorer Day Camp). Did you have fun
at camp last year? Would you like more people to attend camp with
you? Here’s your chance to get more youth to attend. Let your club
members know how much fun you had and encourage them to go with you

It’s time to start thinking about 4-H Art Beat!
4-H Art Beat! was created for 4-H members in grades 3-5 and
their parents and leaders and is the introductory program for
Wisconsin 4-H Arts and Communication! Art Beat! will be held March
17—18, 2017, at our State 4-H Camp, Upham Woods in the Wisconsin
Dells. The weekend will feature a look at a variety of arts
projects including music, drama, visual arts, and more!
4-H members will explore their own creativity while discovering
the great variety of 4-H Arts & Communication experiences
available to them now and in the near future. Session leaders will
be 4-H older youth, adult leaders and 4-H staff members with a
wealth of experience to share. Youth and adult participants will
rotate through a variety of sessions which are hands-on and active
and held at various sites throughout camp. Both youth and adult
participants stay in the warm and cozy heated cabins! All adults
will be considered camp chaperones. Camp begins Friday evening at
7:00 p.m. and ends Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
The $50.00 fee will include all materials and supplies,
(including a very cool ArtBeat! backpack!) special snacks,
overnight lodging and breakfast and lunch on Saturday. Why not get
a whole carload of youth and adults together from your county for
some genuine 4-H bonding time? Come join the excitement of this
opportunity available to some of our youngest (and often most
enthusiastic!) 4-H members!
Register early! This camp fills up fast! Registration deadline
is February 10, 2017.

DRAMA AND MUSIC FESTIVAL - SATURDAY, MARCH 4 (STARTING 9:00
a.m.) 4-H Drama Festival Regulations
DRAMA Performances must include two or more actors/actresses.
Each group is limited to one play of any length up to 30 minutes,
including set-up and take-down time. It is suggested that
performances be about 20 minutes in length (if the group wishes
to go to State Fair). All actors/actresses must be 4-H members. The
director(s) may be 4-H member(s) and/or adult 4-H volunteer(s). A
few basic props may be available (upon request), such as a table
and chairs. Drama groups should plan to furnish any special
props
and sound equipment they need. No special stage lighting or
sound will be available. No hay bales, straw bales, candles, or
real fire can be used. No prompting/coaching during performances by
leaders, parents, or other mem-
bers.
MINI DRAMA / SKIT Mini dramas and skits can be performed at or
in any setting and might include
puppetry, creative dramatics, etc. No stage lighting will be
provided (beyond the county level).
Mini dramas may use props and costumes. Skits use minimal props
and costumes (less is better). Performance length can be up to 15
minutes, including set-up and take-down time. All actors/actresses
must be 4-H members. The director(s) may be 4-H member(s) and/or
adult 4-H volunteer(s). No hay bales, straw bales, candles, or real
fire can be used. No prompting/coaching during performances by
leaders, parents, or other members.
4-H Music Festival Regulations
GENERAL RULES and GUIDELINES 1. Groups and all soloists must
supply any props needed including piano/keyboard and folding
chairs. 2. No microphones allowed for any performances. 3.
Accompaniment and direction can be by 4-H members or adults. 4.
Group performances must be no longer than 15 minutes in length,
including set-up and take down. Make sure that your
performance,
not only the music, singing, etc. but everything you do on stage
fits within the 15 minute time limit. If you go over the 15 minute
limit, you may be dropped a placing (at judge's discretion).
5. Solos must be 7 minutes or less - includes set-up and
performance. 6. Adult accompanists or directors are not allowed to
sing along with their group/soloist presentation. 7. Leaders,
parents, and family members, as well as participants, are
encouraged to attend evaluation sessions, following their
perfor-
mance. 8. No hay or straw bales, candles or real fire can be
used.
VOCAL Must have 3 or more vocalists with or without
accompaniment, with or without props. Accompanists may be recorded,
but must not include vocals.
INSTRUMENTAL Instrumentalists with standard musical instruments,
with or without costumes and props.
DANCE Must have 3 or more dancers. Accompaniment may be
recorded, with or without costumes or props.
NOVELTY 1. Must have 3 or more vocalists, instrumentalists or
dancers or any combination of
these three. 2. Must express themselves and place emphasis on
musical expression. 3. Pantomiming to recordings is not permitted.
4. Accompanists may be recorded, but must not include vocals.
The Music/Drama/Speaking Committee
would like to encourage and recommend that
pieces selected for Music/Drama Fest or the
Speaking Contest are prepared for these 4-H
events and not for other events such as
Forensics or Solo/Ensemble. Work should be
original work of the 4-H members under
guidance of 4-H Youth Leaders or 4-H
Volunteer Leaders.
SOLOS / DUETS Piano solos and other instrumental solos
will be judged separately. Piano and other instrumental soloists
must
provide sheet music for the judge. Music does not have to be
memorized. Vocal solos/duets may have a live
accompanist or a CD. If using CD there can be no vocal on the
CD. Solos/duets performance times:

Clark County Junior Leaders coordinate and facilitate the Clover
Camp Challenge.
Participants are enrolled 5-K to 4th grade 4-Her’s who register
by March 10 come free. Individuals not enrolled in 4-H are required
to pay a $5 entry fee but must be registered by March 10. Need at
least 15 youth signed up to participate by March 10.

Clark County 4-H Leaders Federation Executive Board Meeting
Minutes December 8, 2016, 7:00 pm @ ADS, Greenwood
The December 8, 2016 meeting of the Clark County 4-H Leaders
Executive Board was called to order at 7:00 pm by President, Judy
Morrow. Present: Judy Morrow, Matthew Fischer, Sara Fischer, Anna
Frederickson, Amy Gerhardt, Dawson Gerhardt, Bryana Meyers, Rachel
Stiemann, Susan Stiemann. Joan Buchholz was also present. Absent:
Lisa Artac, Topanga Hanson Pledges were recited. Secretary’s
Report: Minutes from the November meeting were handed out and read.
Susan Stiemann moved to approve the minutes, Dawson Gerhardt second
the motion, motion passed with reminder that the by-law change
needs to be sent to members of Clark County Leaders Federation
Board 30 days prior to January meeting. Financial Report: Joan
Buchholz presented the financial report and state fair financial
support plan for 2017. Matthew Fischer moved to approve the report,
Susan Stiemann second the motion, motion passed. Amy Gerhardt moved
to purchase lifeguard tube for camp supplies. Matthew Fischer
second the motion, motion passed. Old Business: 1. Officer training
was a success. One suggestion for next year was to shorten the
event, which might be helpful to improve at-
tendance. 2. The judging schedule for the 2017 Clark County Fair
that was approved by the Fair Board was dispersed. 3. Youth members
of E-board shared about the upcoming Discovery Day. Deadline for
signing up is December 9. 4. Bowling event on January 7 in
Marshfield; 12 teams need to sign up for the event to occur 5. Camp
counselors are needed for summer. 6. E-Board retreat will be held
January 14, 10-2 pm at Christine Center in Willard New Business: 1.
Perkinstown Sledding requires 75 people to sign up for price break.
We discussed providing food at the event. Judy Morrow
will organize snacks and hot chocolate. 2. Speaking &
Demonstration contest on January 30, 8 people need to participate
or the event will be held with DDMAS. 3. A Cloverbud leader
training has been set for Feb. 21. 4. A letter was received
requesting support for TN Wildlife Relief. The E-board decided to
encourage local clubs to make dona-
tions. 5. January 16 will be Leaders Federation meeting at 7:30
at Loyal City Hall. Agent Hollar has designed a new one page
handout that will highlight upcoming events. The handout was
well received by E-Board. The seating arrangement for the meeting
was discussed. The conclusion was to continue sitting in a circle
and asking speakers to stand up and/or use micro-phone to allow
everyone to hear better. The following items were recommended for
the January 16 agenda: how to request funds, explain the role of
the Leaders Federation as an advisor to E-board and how the E-board
votes on items as their rep-resentatives. Finally, the Capital
Connection event should be added to one-page event handout for
January 16 meeting.
6. Potential T-shirt designs were evaluated. One suggestion was
changing the wording to “Building the Future in Clark County”

The club voted on where we would like our January meeting to be

Our club had won a pizza and ice cream party for most new
members joined and received it at this meeting.
Chris Hollar gave a short presentation on the pyramid of 4H.

Thurman A. Craig Scholarship Application Administered by the
Clark County Holstein Association
The Thurman A. Craig Scholarship ($250) will be awarded to an
individual active within the Holstein industry. The candidate must
be currently enrolled in college or technical college, or is a high
school senior with post-secondary intentions. Scholarship
requirements: Candidate must be a Clark County Junior Holstein
Member or parents must be a Clark County Holstein member. Candidate
must be a high school senior or currently enrolled in college or
Technical College. Includes University of
Wisconsin’s Farm & Industry Short Courses. Applications are

Wisconsin State Fair Dairy Promotion Board Scholarships The
Wisconsin State Fair Dairy Promotion Board is offering $1,000
scholarships, for use during the 2017-18 school year, to third and
fourth-year college students pursuing dairy-related or food science
degrees at one of Wisconsin’s four-year universities. Additional
$1,000 scholarships will offered to high school seniors planning to
pursue a dairy-related or food science degree at one of Wisconsin’s
four-year universities or students studying in a two-year,
technical school program related to dairy or food science.
Applicants will be evaluated on involvement and leadership in
dairy-related activities, scholastic achievement, and career
objectives. Finalists will be interviewed in mid-April, with the
recipients to be recognized at the 2017 Wisconsin State Fair. The

2017 Clark County Leaders Federation 4-H Scholarship Application
This scholarship is available to all who meet the following
requirements:
____ Must be or have been a 4-H member or adult leader for 5
years (minimum) and at least one (1) year in Clark
County Wisconsin ____ An individual entering a post-secondary
school or currently enrolled as a full-time student in a college,
university,
technical school, or Farm Short-Course program. A different
program requires UW-Extension approval (prior to submitting an
application)
____ Have turned in a 4-H record book ____ Have not previously
received this scholarship (only win once)
Complete one scholarship application per person. The funds
awarded after one semester of post-secondary study is completed.
Stipulations are as follows:
Must complete one semester as a full-time student (e.g. number
of credits achieved)
Submit semester transcripts (this could be multiple pages)
Semester GPA must be 2.5 or higher
Enrolled for another semester of study
Applications are due on or before April 1, 2017
