Rev. David Yardy and his wife Sherrill serve as non-residential missionaries to India, assisting the Free Methodist World Missions (FMWM) Asia Area Director with work in South Asia. David currently helps FMWM with cross-cultural issues and missiological perspectives. He served as Asia Area Director from 1995 to 2013. David and Sherrill previously served as missionaries to the Philippines from 1982 to 1995. David grew up in India, the son of medical missionary parents. He and his wife were first appointed as missionaries to India but were unable to secure permanent visas. They subsequently were assigned to the Philippines where David was named pastor of the Manila Free Methodist Church in 1982. He later served as superintendent, director of John Wesley Bible College (JWBC), teacher at JWBC and the Asia Theological Seminary, mission chairman, and has helped the Philippine church become a missions-sending church. Sherrill worked with International Child Care Ministries, a child sponsorship program of the Free Methodist Church which helps needy pastor’s children and orphans around the globe. She has taught English at John Wesley Bible College and gives active support to David’s ministry. As a trained teacher, she has also taught their three grown children: Andrew, Suzanne, and Carole. David graduated from Greenville College in Illinois and holds a M.Div. degree from Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky, and a M.A. degree from Fuller Theological Seminary, Pasadena, California, in cross-cultural studies.
