CD of the Week:

Bernard Nathanson was an Ameri-can medical doctor from New York who helped to found the National Abortion Rights Action League, but then later became an acclaimed pro-life activist. He gained national at-tention by becoming one of the founding members of the National Abortion Rights Action League, now known as NARAL Pro-Choice America. He worked with Betty Friedan and others for the legalization of abortion in the United States. He was also for a time the director of the Center for Reproductive and Sexual Health New York's largest abortion clinic. Nathanson has written that he was responsible for more than 75,000 abortions through-out his pro-choice career.

Pastor’s Corner A lot can change in a week, can’t it? First of all, I have the obligation to welcome you all to Ordi-nary Time—as the Christmas season officially ended last Sunday. Thanks to so many of you for helping us take down the decorations (and even the extra clean-ing up afterwards).

Another change is that I am with you for the weekend—and not in Washington D.C. as I had expected to be. You probably know why. Last week the media got wind of developments on the school front. I need to point out that at the time of printing, there is no decision made as to the future of St. Mary’s School in regards to closing or changes. There is a lot of energy and ex-citement on some of the possibilities, and I hope to share more with you about these in the near future. In the meantime, please keep the entire planning for the school in your prayers.

While all the work around the school continues, the March for Life still is happening in Washington D.C. this week. On Tuesday the Church invites us to participate in a day of prayer and fasting for the protection of life and the end of abortion.

There’s sure a lot to pray about these days, isn’t there? May the words of the Gospel inspire us all: “You have saved the best until now.”

—Fr. Bryan Stitt

DAY OF PRAYER FOR LEGAL PROTECTION OF UNBORN CHILDREN: January 22nd Day of Prayer and Fasting

The over 56 million abortions since the 1973 decisions of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton reflect with heartbreaking magnitude what Pope Francis means by a “throwaway culture.” However, we have great trust in God’s providence. We are reminded time and again in Scripture to seek the Lord’s help, and as people of faith, we believe that our prayers are heard. The General Instruc-tion of the Roman Missal designates January 22 as a particular day of prayer and penance, called the "Day of Prayer for the Le-gal Protection of Unborn Children”: “In all the Dioceses of the United States, January 22 shall be observed as a particular day of prayer for the full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life and of penance for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion.” As individuals, we are called to observe this day through the penitential practices of prayer and fasting. Another way to take part is participating in special events to observe the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. If you are unable to participate physically, please pray for those who are traveling to Washington DC to March for Life. Thank you for your prayers. Resources are available here: usccb.org/prayer-and-worship/resources/january-22-day-of-prayer.cfm

Did you know…. Every Wednesday morning parishioners faithfully clean our beautiful church at 8:30. Please help them out, try to kick off as much snow from your boots before coming in, and please keep your feet off the kneelers.

Dear Jesus, Divine Physician and Healer of the sick, we turn to you in this time of illness. O dearest comforter of the troubled, alleviate our worry and sorrow with your gentle love, and grant us the grace and strength to accept this burden. Dear God, we place our worries in your hands. We place our sick under your care and humbly ask that you restore your servant to health again. Above all, grant us the grace to acknowledge your will and know that whatever you do, you do for the love of us. Amen.

Feeling okay, but concerned

Surviving Divorce: 12-week program

The Surviving Divorce Program offers support and healing for people who are separated or divorced. The groups meet once a week for 12 weeks. New groups are starting in Massena and Wa-tertown in late January.

For more information, contact Steve Tartaglia at 315-393-2920.

Amateur Greeters? We’ve

got some well trained Greeters here at St. Mary’s who are good welcoming people by holding doors, passing out bulletins, and sometimes doing both at the same

time! But don’t feel you have to be a “professional” to do so. If it feels like you’ve got an extra 5 minutes and you’re willing/able to help us out, please feel free to step in—we won’t force you to give up your amateur status and go pro if you don’t want to !

Next Week’s Col-lection:

Last year twenty-one grants were awarded which benefited those working to build a Culture of Life in our diocese. It's important with this year's legislative climate that we provide alternatives to abor-tion and help to educate the next generation. The collection provided funds for 7 Gabriel Projects, Plattsburgh Crisis Preg-nancy Center, Birthright, Right to Life affiliates, 4 pilgrimages to the DC March for Life (two high school, one college and one family bus), 3 Pro-Life County Fair Booths as well as other pro-life efforts.

Save the date!

A day long women's retreat will be held May 4th at Norfolk. Edwina Gateley is a very inspiring and entertaining presenter. Stay tuned for on line registration.
