LEARNING FROM SPARROWSMany of us know from our childhood or even as adults what it is l ike to be bullied. Somebody threatens or humiliates us and we feel small, powerless and afraid. We are intimidated to the point of doing nothing. Some of us may also have been the bully. We intimidate somebody else through our words or actions and we feel important and in control.

For those of us who have ever been bullied, we need to hear the words of Jesus in the Gospel, ?Do not be intimidated (Matthew 10:26-33).?

These words can remind us there are many ways to be bullied. Certainly, we can feel immobilized and frightened through the intimidating words and actions of others. Maybe there is a huge conflict in the family or at work and we have no clue how to solve it. Ongoing acts of violence and terror such as we are witnessing these past weeks, can make us feel anxious and fearful about what may be next. We can also feel bullied by an il lness which renders us helpless. Who among us during this pandemic has not felt powerless in trying to deal with the ravages of the virus? One of the dangerous consequences of being bullied is becoming bullies ourselves. When we feel powerless, one way to deal with it is to try to dominate others. At t imes, our defense to being intimidated is to intimidate.

For bullies and those who are bullied, the sparrow can teach us a lesson. Jesus says that even the tiny bird which is only worth a few cents will not be allowed to fall to the ground. He tells us not to be afraid and to remember that we are of greater value than the litt le sparrow who God cares for. When Jesus tells us not to be intimidated, he is ult imately teaching us how valuable we are to God. Feeling bullied and being the bully often happen because we forget that our true value lies in being precious in God?s eyes. Remembering how treasured we are by God can f il l us with confidence when we feel intimidated. Knowing how much God cherishes us can motivate us to stop what may be bullying behaviors that we have exhibited toward others. Valuing the lives of others as God does can be the motivation for making serious efforts to put an end to racism and inequality.

Where might we feel bullied by another person, a circumstance of l ife or the condition of the world? Who might we be trying to intimidate? It is not too late to learn from the valued litt le sparrow and stop wasting our time on both.

CATHOLIC NEWS / ANNOUNCEMENTSRESUMPTION OF REGULAR HOURS FOR CONFESSIONWe are pleased to announce that regular hours for confession will begin on Friday, June 26, 2020, 7:15 p.m.-8:15 p.m. and at that same time on all Fridays in the future. Confessions will also be heard on Saturdays, 8:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. Location of confessions will be outside the main entrance of the cathedral (south side). A priest will be on the plaza east of the main entrance and on the plaza west of the main entrance. We will continue with this schedule and these locations until further notice.

CHRIST CATHEDRAL PARISH COMMUNITY OUTREACHDue to the 4th of July fall ing on a Saturday, CCPCO?s 1st Saturday grocery distribution is being moved to Saturday, July 11. Please stop by the distribution center behind the Arboretum on Saturday, July 11 between 10:00 and noon to receive groceries.

PUBLIC CELEBRATION OF MASS AT CHRIST CATHEDRALThe resumption of our regular Mass schedule began the weekend of June 13/14. Thank you to everyone who has helped make this possible. Bishop Vann continues to extend a dispensation from the obligation to attend Mass on Sunday and Holy Days of Obligation until such time as it is deemed safe to have large gatherings again.

We will continue to livestream the 9:45 am, 11:30 am and 1:15 pm Masses. Remember, participation at Mass inside the cathedral is l imited to the f irst 100 persons who arrive. Masks must be worn by everyone. We will continue to broadcast our weekend Masses to the cathedral plaza. Participants are asked to bring lawn chairs if they wish to be seated in the plaza. At all Masses, whether inside or out, the parameters of offering a safe distance of six feet from others will be practiced. APRENDER DE UN GORRIÓN

Muchos de nosotros sabemos desde nuestra infancia o incluso como adultos lo que es ser intimidado. Alguien nos amenaza o humilla y nos sentimos pequeños, impotentes y asustados. Estamos intimidados hasta el punto de no hacer nada. Algunos de nosotros también podemos haber sido el agresor. Intimidamos a otra persona a través de nuestras palabras o acciones y nos sentimos importantes y en control.

Para aquellos de nosotros que alguna vez hemos sido intimidados necesitamos escuchar las palabras de Jesús en el Evangelio: "No sean intimidados (Mateo 10:26-33)." Estas palabras pueden recordarnos que hay muchas maneras de ser intimidados.

Ciertamente, podemos sentirnos inmovilizados y asustados a través de las palabras y acciones intimidantes de los demás. Tal vez hay un gran conflicto en la familia o en el trabajo y no tenemos idea de cómo resolverlo. Los actos continuos de violencia y terror, como los que estamos presenciando estas últimas semanas, pueden hacernos sentir ansiosos y temerosos de lo que puede seguir. También podemos sentirnos intimidados por una enfermedad que nos deja indefensos. ¿Quién de nosotros durante esta pandemia no se ha sentido impotente al tratar de lidiar con las desgracias del virus? Una de las consecuencias peligrosas de ser acosado es convertirnos en el agresor. Cuando nos sentimos impotentes, una manera de lidiar con él es tratar de dominar a los demás. A veces, nuestra defensa de ser intimidado es intimidar.

Para los agresores y los acosados, el gorrión puede enseñarnos una lección. Jesús dice que ni siquiera el pequeño pájaro que vale unos pocos centavos, permitirá que caiga al suelo. Nos dice que no tengamos miedo y que recordemos que somos de mayor valor que el pequeño gorrión que Dios cuida. Cuando Jesús nos dice que no nos sintamos intimidados, nos está enseñando lo valiosos que somos para Dios. Sentirse intimidado y ser el acosador sucede porque olvidamos que nuestro verdadero valor radica en ser preciosos a los ojos de Dios. Recordar cuán preciados somos por Dios puede llenarnos de confianza cuando nos sentimos intimidados. Saber cuánto nos aprecia Dios puede motivarnos a detener lo que pueden ser comportamientos de intimidación que hemos exhibido hacia los demás. Valorar la vida de los demás como lo hace Dios puede ser la motivación para hacer esfuerzos serios para poner f in al racismo y la desigualdad.

¿Dónde podríamos sentirnos intimidados por otra persona, una circunstancia de la vida o la condición del mundo? ¿A quién intentamos intimidar? No es demasiado tarde para aprender del pequeño gorrión y dejar de perder el t iempo en ambos.

NOTICIAS CATÓLICAS / ANUNCIOSREANUDACIÓN DE HORARIOS REGULARES PARA CONFESIÓNNos complace anunciar que el horario regular de confesión comenzará el viernes 26 de junio de 2020, de 7:15 p.m. a 8:15 p.m. y a la misma hora todos los viernes en el futuro. Las confesiones también se escucharán los sábados, de 8:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. La ubicación de las confesiones será afuera de la entrada principal de la catedral (lado sur). CELEBRACIÓN PÚBLICA DE MISAS EN LA CATEDRAL DE CRISTOLa reanudación de nuestro horario regular de Misa comenzó el f in de semana de junio 13 y 14. Gracias a todos los que ayudaron en hacer esto posible. El Señor Obispo Vann sigue extendiendo una dispensa de la obligación de asistir a Misa los domingos y días santos de obligación hasta el momento en que se considere seguro poder tener grandes reuniones. STATEMENT

We, the people of Christ Cathedral Parish are a faith-filled community who gather to worship our Lord Jesus Christ.

Through the celebration of the Eucharist, we unite

as one family.

As a community, we share our love of Jesus

through prayer, education, evangelization

and service to one another.

A modest amount of hand sanitizer will be available at all churches to those who do not bring their own.

Holy water fonts will be empty, and hymnals removed.

People will be instructed to not engage in any physical touch, such as by greeting each other.

The church will be thoroughly sanitized/cleaned regularly throughout the day, including all entryways and doors.

Ventilation will be increased with windows and doors open when possible.

Signs and other instructions will encourage normal safe practices necessary to avoid the spread (e.g. cough or sneeze into a shirtsleeve, handkerchief, or tissue; avoid touching the eyes, nose, and mouth).

The sign of peace and distribution of the Precious Blood is suspended.

All local safety orders specifically relating to proper face coverings will be followed.

Those over age 65 and/or with a co-morbidity will be encouraged to consider not returning to Mass just yet, and anyone showing any symptoms of sickness, or anyone who has a household member who is sick or showing symptoms of sickness should not come to church. or does not feel comfortable attending a public gathering should stay home.

HOLY COMMUNION WILL BE DISTRIBUTED

LIMITED MASS WITH STRICT SOCIAL DISTANCING GUIDELINES AND RULES.

Since the Sunday obligation has been dispensed from, Catholics will be encouraged to attend other Masses during the week instead of on Sunday, in order to spread out the number of people attending. There will be an effort to add additional Masses in an attempt to accommodate everyone who desires to attend Mass during this phase.

Bishop Vann has granted a temporary dispensation which will permit priests to celebrate Mass outside the sacred space of a church building.

PHASE ONE BRINGS SMALLER GROUPS OF HEALTHY CATHOLICS BACK (100 OR LESS)In most cases, only 25% of the church space will be available per Mass.
