Happy New Year and welcome to the first edition of Chevron for 2014!

Our staff and management continuously work to provide the best possible service, quality food, promotions, events and entertainment, all in a safe and welcoming environment – and 2014 won’t be any different.

We are delighted to be able to start the year with the new bar and lounge, expanded outdoors and gaming areas. We are also pleased with the amount of positive feedback already received regarding the improvements to the Club.

Members should also be very proud of ClubGRANTS, with our highest ever donation of $935,738 to over 90 much-needed organisations, including education, music and the arts, health and aged care, emergency services, sport, disability and family services. Year after year, the Club is committed to improving the welfare of our local community.

Our recently amalgamated Magpie Sports has undergone a significant amount of renovation, with new carpet and paint throughout, new AV and TVs and ceiling-high glass windows to allow for much needed natural light into the Club. Good news is that the fabulous Italian restaurant Paesani’s are still preparing their much loved home-style cooked delights. Although it is still a work-in-progress, I do encourage Members of both Clubs to take a look and see why we are pleased about these developments.

We have always encouraged our Members to let us know how well we, as staff and management are going; the best way for us to improve is for the Members to give us feedback. Now there is even more reason to provide feedback as we recently launched a new programme for our staff called ‘Hot Shots’, a rewards program designed to encourage staff to deliver a consistently high level of service, while rewarding and recognising those who go above and beyond in serving our Members. If you see someone who you think is doing a great job please let us know because it not only means a lot to know our Members value our work, it also means staff will be rewarded.

Thank you and see you at the Club(s).

Dean Thomas Chief Executive Officer

CEO’s ReportPresident’s ReportHappy New Year to everyone!

I hope you have had a very enjoyable Christmas and are ready to experience another great year of entertainment and activities at your Club.

It is not long until Australia Day is here again and as always we have a great line-up of entertainment. Don’t miss our traditional

Aussie feasts of BBQs and prawns, raffles and much more throughout this special weekend including an Australian Made performance by Absolute 80s Stars, showcasing many of your favourite iconic classics.

Our Club is celebrating Chinese New Year on Thursday, 30th January from 7pm as we welcome in the Year of the Horse with traditional Chinese entertainment, bringing prosperity and good fortune to all. Also don’t miss Mama Wong’s delicious Chinese New Year Banquet for two days only!

We have organised a very special three-course dinner for you to enjoy on Valentine’s Day, so spoil that very special person in your life as Doug Williams and his band perform all the R&B hits from Barry White, Earth Wind & Fire, Marvin Gaye and many more. It will truly be an evening to remember.

Other entertainment to start the year off include the return by popular demand of Jellybean Jam performing non-stop Disco, Swing, Motown, Latin, Pop, Rock and much more. FABBA, one of Sydney’s most highly energetic bands will also perform the classics celebrating 40 years since ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974.

The new indoor and outdoor bar and lounge areas are looking great. Free live entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights are back and Happy Hour is on every day. Member Meal Deals will continue, Raffles and Bingo are back and we have a great Friday night Meat Raffle and Sausage Sizzle every week!

On behalf of the Board of Directors, thank you for your continued support, it is appreciated and if you haven’t seen our new renovations we invite you to come and enjoy your new Club – I’m sure you will be impressed.

Best Regards,

Neville Brown President

What’s been happening…at Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL Club

In late November Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL Club’s much awaited renovations were finalised and the new look Bar & Lounge was officially opened!

The ambient design and elegant decor provides a warm environment while still making the Club a dynamic entertainment venue.

The TAB Bar has also been renovated to include more seating for sports fans and the larger Bar and Lounge adjacent to Canterbury Road has a purpose built stage and expanded outdoor area.

With renovations now complete the Club will continue to provide even more great food and wine offers, entertainment, events and promotions throughout 2014 and beyond.

COME AND SEE WHAT EVERYONE IS TALkING ABOuT…

Clubs are at the heart of the community and providing a relaxed, safe and welcoming environment is fundamental. Being a not-for-profit organisation, Member’s funds go back into the local community and into the Club’s facilities - our Club truly is your Club,

CEO, Dean Thomas.

Celebrating a Jewel in our Club’s Crown

The new look renovations are nearly complete with an exciting finished transformation soon to be unveiled.

Members will have noticed the new carpet and paint throughout, soon to be arriving furniture and a dedicated child’s play area which has been completed and just needs government approval to un-restrict the area so kids (and families) can begin enjoying the new facility. We are confident Members and Guests will agree the Club is looking terrific.

The far back wall to the left of the bar has been demolished and replaced with floor-to-ceiling high glass, allowing much needed natural light into the Club. Much

loved Paesani’s is still cooking up a storm and a somewhat segregated dining area for young families and other diners has been designed to ensure everyone can enjoy their meals.

Staff are pleased to have new administrative offices and technology upgrades and many Members would have noticed new light fittings and wall finishes as well as TV and AV upgrades.

We would like to invite all Members of Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL and Magpie Sports to come down and take a look – and while you’re there why not try your luck at Bingo, Raffles or Spinna Winna!

If you would like to discuss enrolling your child in 2014 please contact the Youth Club President, Jodie Capo on 0419 615 788 or [email protected] or Secretary, Janye Jones on 0405 664 986 or [email protected]

Donation to RPA BabiesThe Club is delighted to have recently donated $21,000 to help seriously ill babies at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

The money will fund a state-of-the-art video laryngoscope for the Neonatal Intensive Care unit (NICu) This vital piece of equipment will be used in the operating theatre and the NICu, allowing doctors to accurately and safely intubate babies, which is essential for putting babies on a ventilator allowing them to breath.

The video laryngoscope is a vital training tool for junior doctors as the entire procedure is done under the supervision of senior doctors. This training is invaluable to doctors who can then practice in other hospitals including Canterbury Hospital.

THE CLuB HAS LONG BEEN A SuPPORTER OF THE uNIT HAVING DONATED IN ExCESS OF $76,000 OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS FOR VITAL MEDICAL EQuIPMENT.
