Choice Hits Las Vegas
Signed 2005 Hall of Fame Football Jersey Donated by Choice.
The 2012 Waste Expo in Las Vegas brought a rare and exciting
opportunity for our company. Choice was offered by two of the
largest manufactures in the United States to exhibit our state of
the art Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks in there booths. The
Waste Expo is one of the largest Waste and Recycling shows in the
world. This premier event brings together over 11,000 industry
professionals from around the world each year, serving a $75
billion solid waste and recycling industry. The conference conducts
40 sessions and workshops organized by the Environmental Industry
Associations (NSWMA/WASTEC), while bringing 550 of the industry’s
leading suppliers together by providing a comprehensive and
unduplicated experience con-centrating on the issues and trends
critical to the solid waste and recycling industry in both the
private and public sectors.
Director of Purchasing and Marketing, Ray Peraino, states, “Out
of all of the haulers in the United States, both Peterbilt Motors
Company and Heil Body Company chose to showcase Choice
Environmental’s trucks in Las Vegas. We were very proud to be
selected. Our trucks were transported by railroad car back and
forth to Las Vegas to ensure they would be perfect. It was a strong
statement for Choice to make to all the vendors and municipalities
that were in attendance.” Our two custom wrapped state of the art
Peterbilt 320 CNG trucks were fully equipped with a Heil 28 Yd.
Half/Pack Front End body including Vulcan V600 front fork scales
installed in each truck. Both trucks we equipped with routing
computers and software using cameras to instantly send photos back
to dispatch of blocked containers, overfilled cans and even
property damage.
Charity AuctionChoice acquired and donated a very limited
edition signed, and framed Hall of Fame football Jersey from
legendary Miami Dol-phins quarterback, Dan Marino. The jersey went
to The 18th An-nual Environmental Research and Education Foundation
(EREF) Equipment Auction, Silent Auction, and Raffle raising over
$1.1 million. The EREF funds and directs research and educational
initiatives for waste management practices that will benefit the
industry and community.
The highest bidder, donating $850.00 for the Dan Marino jersey
was Choice’s local Pompano Beach Florida vendor Mickey Chavez,
owner of Sunbelt Hydraulics Equipment, Inc.

Freedom Waters FoundationChoice and CEO Glen Miller through the
Freedom Waters Foundation sponsored two families with children that
have had leukemia (thank God they are in remission) for a fun day
on the water.
Enhancing the lives of the kids by providing boating
opportunities and marine related activities for people with
disabilities, life threatening illnesses, youth at risk, and others
with special needs.
The Freedom Waters Foundation is always in need of either people
with large boats or who are willing to donate money to take these
special kids out for a day of fishing or just boating.
The foundation is looking for personal or corporate donations to
take a group of these special kids out on the Mariner III to cruise
around Palm Beach and Jupiter. As a thank you, the donor or donors

Safety Corner: Heat Stress is 100% PreventableBasic factors
contributing to heat stress are, (High Environmental Temperatures,
Humidity, Direct Sun or Heat, Limited Air Movement, Physical
Exertion, Poor Physical Condition, Medicines, and Alcohol). Being
aware of these factors is the key to prevention.Early warning signs
of the onset of Heat Stress are, (Headache, Dizziness or Fainting,
Confusion or Disorientation, Mood Swings, Rapid Heart Rate, Dark
Yellow Urine ‘dehydration”, Redness of Skin or Heat Rashes, Swollen
Lips, and Chills).Mild to moderate symptoms can quickly turn severe
and result in hospitalization or even death. Do not wait! Act
quickly if any warning signs are noticed.
What most people are not aware is while working under the
influence of Heat Stress, cognitive abilities decrease. Slower
reaction time and poor decision making can lead to injury.
Operating equipment or tools are always dangerous, but even more so
when workers are impaired or under stress. Fine motor skills are
often impaired which in turn can cause accidents or injury
resulting in property loss or damage. Also a stressed body cannot
work at optimum speed or performance. Worker productivity declines
as the effects of heat stress increase. All Employees must be aware
of co-workers activities. Watch for signs/symptoms of heat related
disorders. Early recognition of heat stress is important and quick
action is crucial for recovery.

Happy Birthday!!!
Recently Choice Fleet Manager JR.Sites was chosen to be in a
nationwide campaign with his testimonial of Goodyear’s G296 WHA and
DuraSeal Technology (self-repairing) waste industry tires. The
article will be used by Goodyear Tire Com-pany in upcoming
advertisements in fleet and waste industry magazines in the United
States. Eventually, all of the tires will be replaced with the G296
WHA DuraSeal tires. JR estimates he has reduced the number of road
calls 75% and tire repairs by more than 60%.
“We invest $250,000 to $300,000 for each of our trucks, so they
represent a significant investment in our company’s op-eration,“ JR
states. With that kind of money tied up in our fleet, we simply
can’t afford downtime. We need tires that can stand up to the
rigors of the environment our trucks run in.”
JR. estimates the campaign is on track to save Choice an
estimated $50,000 per year.
