1 Power Quality Analysers
1.1 GridSense Powermonic
1.1.1 Introduction The PowerMonic range of portable power recorders offers comprehensive and reliable monitoring of low voltage circuits. Built with high performance, toughness and focus on ease of use, the PowerMonic has been adopted as the workhorse instrument for a variety of power monitoring applications including power quality analysis, supply compliance checks, power flow studies, energy audits and voltage investigations. The PM45 is the latest addition to the PowerMonic product line, meeting CATIV-600V safety certification and voltage measurement standards. With four voltage and current channels, the PM45 records a trend over time along with a range of power quality parameters, including flicker, harmonics, power and imbalance in accordance to the latest IEC standards. The PM45 is also an independent event recorder capturing high resolution snapshots of fluctuations including motor starts, spikes and transients based on voltage and current limit settings. Utilized for short and long term power monitoring applications, the PM45 is typically installed on pad mount and pole mount transformers, capacitor banks, regulators, distribution substations, as well as commercial, residential and industrial connection points. Since its introduction in 1995, the PowerMonic has proven to be a reliable and versatile everyday instrument used worldwide by System Planners, Distribution Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Electrical Contractors, Power Quality Engineers, and Maintenance Engineers alike.

4.4 Substation Current Transformer Converters
4.4.1 Introduction
CK1: 1 Amp Substation CT Converter CK5: 5 Amp Substation CT Converter The CK1 or CK5 Powermonic Current Transformer (CT) Converter is a three phase device that transforms the standard 1A or 5A secondary current from a CT to a 200 mA output current suitable for direct connection to a Powermonic CT input. Internal protection is provided to enable the output leads to be disconnected from the Powermonic without affecting the CT secondary circuits. The units are designed for high accuracy and therefore lend themselves for Metering and Power Quality applications.

5.3 Special Purpose
5.3.1 Summation Current Transformer When the current in a number of feeders need not be individually metered but summated to a single meter or instrument, a summation current transformer can be used. In consumer installation, where there is more than one feeder, it is more economical to use summation metering and for this purpose, summation Current Transformer (CT) is required. The summation CT consists of two or more primary windings which are connected to the feeders to be summated, and a single secondary winding which feeds a current proportional to the summated primary current. A typical ratio would be 5 + 5 + 5 / 5A, which means that three primary feeders of 5 Amps are to be summated to a single 5 Amps meter. We can custom-design to your specific requirements.
5.3.2 Interposing Current Transformer Interposing types can be used to modify the secondary current from an existing line CT. This is useful for modifying secondary currents without replacing the line CTs. The main function of an interposing CT is to balance the currents supplied to the relay where there would otherwise be an imbalance due to the ratios of the main CTs. Interposing CTs are equipped with a wide range of taps that can be selected by the user to achieve the balance required.
Address: Unit 102, 25 Angas Street Telephone: +61 2 8283 6945 Meadowbank NSW 2114, Sydney Australia Fax: +61 2 8212 8105 Website: www.chkpowerquality.com.au ABN: 53 169 840 831
As the name suggests, an interposing CT is installed between the secondary winding of the main CT and the relay. They can be used on the primary side or secondary side of the power transformer being protected, or both. Interposing CTs also provide a convenient method of establishing a delta connection for the elimination of zero sequence currents where this is necessary.
5.3.3 Core Balance Current Transformer
Core balance current transformers are intended for providing a very sensitive method of earth leakage protection on three-phase electrical systems with suitable relays. Cables of all phases pass through the inner diameter of the transformer and there is no output under no-fault conditions. In the event of an earth-fault a non-zero current exist and induces a changing magnetic field within the core, which in turn generates a secondary voltage which operates a relay (via burden).
We can optimally custom-design to your specific requirements based on relay types and settings, and the required primary operating current.

7 Power Quality Mitigation Products
7.1 Reactors and Filters We can source appropriate line side and load side reactors and filters to address the identified causes of poor power quality. 7.2 Power Factor Correction Units We work with local manufacturers and suppliers to provide appropriately sized PFC units. We can custom design to your requirements and also offer a segregated design that not only enables more efficient service and maintenance but also ensures the sensitive control components are not affected by heat generated by the harmonic blocking reactors and hence prolonging the life of the equipment.
Up to 100kVar Wall Mount Cubicle 1000H x 800W x 300D (wall mount cubicle without reactor segregation) Up to 250kVar Cubicle 2000H x 800W x 600D (expandable to 300kVar if no isolator or circuit breaker required) Up to 550kVar Cubicle 2000H x 1250W x 600D (expandable to 600kVar if no isolator or circuit breaker required) Up to 800kVar Cubicle 2000H x 2050W x 600D (expandable to 900kVar if no isolator or circuit breaker required) Up to 1000kVar Cubicle 2000H x 2500W x 600D Switched Capacitor Bank: Thyristor controlled switching technology - mitigates the effects of fast switching loads (lifts, welding equipment, oil and gas drilling rigs; and mine site drilling equipment).

7.3 Active Harmonic Filtering Wall-Mounted Active Filter ADF P100 The ADF P100 is an ultra-efficient, easy to use solution in a wall mounted cabinet. The tall and narrow design allows installation where space is at a premium. It has a nominal current of 70 to 100 A RMS and is available in the voltage range 208 - 480 V RMS nominal. ADF P200 Active Filter The ADF P200 is a very fast active filter and can eliminate harmonic problems up to the 100th harmonic and works well in even very resonant grids. It is suitable for mitigating resonances, interharmonics and high frequency disturbances. ADF P300 Active Filter The ADF P300 is suitable for commercial and industrial loads.
STATCOM (Static Synchronous Compensator)
Is a shunt device, which uses force-commutated power electronics (i.e. GTO, IGBT) to
control power flow and improve transient stability on electrical power networks.

ADF P700 STATCOM: The ADF P700 is a high power, utility grade, medium voltage STATCOM for heavy industrial loads. It is useful for dynamic reactive compensation, flicker mitigation, and harmonic suppression in applications such as electric arc furnaces, cranes, hoists and wind farms. The ADF P700 is available in modular 3 MVA or 6 MVA compensation power. Several units can be operated in parallel to achieve higher power levels.

8 Consulting and Services
8.1 Consulting in Power Quality
8.1.1 Power Quality Investigation
This includes:
Site Survey
Site Monitoring
Data Analysis and Identification
Reporting and Recommendations
8.1.2 Power Quality Mitigation
Following the Power Quality Investigation, we then propose solutions to mitigate the contributing aspects to poor power quality. This includes proposing products and equipment followed by further monitoring for validation.
8.1.3 Power Quality Management
Your electrical distribution system may be changing - growing (adding more elements to do more work). In this case we would recommend a Power Quality Management Plan for continuous monitoring and assessment.
8.2 Training
8.2.1 Product Training
Product training is provided on all electronic monitoring products and customised equipment sold and or designed by CHK Power Quality Pty Ltd.
8.2.2 Professional Training
A single day course is offered in Power Quality with a certificate awarded upon completion. The course covers an overview of power systems in Australia, introduces concepts of power quality, monitoring and reporting and how to improve power quality.
8.3 Technical Support
8.3.1 Product Support
Product support is provided on all electronic monitoring products and customised equipment sold and or designed by CHK Power Quality Pty Ltd and some products designed by GridSense; please enquire.
