YMCA DAY CAMP

Y Day Camp is designed to provide a positive camp experi-ence, in a safe and accepting environment. Well-trained,qualified staff serve as positive role models for campers. YDay Camp enhances camper’s self-confidence, self-esteemand leadership skills through well planned activities. Campersdevelop a true understanding of diversity in an atmosphere ofacceptance and approval through the uniqueness of others.

Campers are motivated to be creative, expressive and learn new skills. Y Day Campstrives to address summer learning through theme based curriculum that includes keyacademic components. Campers will learn appreciation of the environment and learnways to take an active role in protecting and conserving it. There will be a focus on so-cial development and teamwork. All YMCA Day Camps are licensed by the NYC Depart-ment of Health and accredited by the American Camping Association (ACA).

DEAR PARENTS/CAREGIVERS,

The Chinatown YMCA has prepared an exciting fun-filled camp for your children. Wewill continue to offer an assortment of sports and specialty programs. We’re lookingforward in seeing our old campers and inviting our new campers to the family.

At the Chinatown Y Day Camp, our children as well as the staff are very diverse and weembrace all cultures through cultural and festive events. We aim to promote everycamper’s educational and social development.

Our staff is highly energetic, caring and well trained; you can be assured that yourchildren are in good hands. Our summer camp has be tailored to demonstrate howhands on learning through outdoor and indoor educational activities are a powerful ad-dition to the summer curriculum.

Activities include instructional swim twice & outdoor activities three days a week, arts& crafts, sports & recreation, reading and journaling. Our curriculum is themed basedand this year’s themes include Egyptian Explorers, Under-the-Sea Explorers, WorldTravelers, and Magical Story Writers.

We offer scholarships for our Summer Day Camp Program for families in need. Lastyear, almost 200 families received both partial or full scholarships, allowing their chil-dren to participate in camp. If you are interested and have questions about finan- cialassistance, please feel free to reach out to Judy Guan, Membership Coordinator. YMCA DAY CAMP OBJECTIVESThe YMCA Summer Day Camp programhelps campers ages 5 - 12 years old,to grow mentally and physically byproviding challenging activities inboth small and large group settingsunder the supervision of a caring andwell trained staff.

SUMMER LEARNINGTo succeed in school and life, childrenand young adults need ongoing oppor-tunities to learn and practice essen-tial skills. This is especially trueduring the summer months when chil-dren lose much of what they learnduring the school year.

YMCA of Greater New York Day Campsprovide high-quality summer learninginitiatives that give children a varietyways to improve reading and mathskills and explore music, drama, artand sports. Through fun, themed cur-riculum that incorporates key aca-demic components, children willpractice and further their academicskills, learn to plan and create proj-ects, learn teamwork and developnew skills. To inspire reading, ourprogram will provide books recom-mended by the Department of Educa-tion for summer reading.

CAMP LOCATIONThe Chinatown YMCA summer daycamp operates out of the HoustonYMCA facility which is located at 273Bowery St, featuring a six lane pool,basketball courts & gym. We also useoffsite facilities such as local parksand schools to conduct our program.We also hold a traditional summercamp at our Hester St location locatedat MS 131 (100 Hester St). The camp’sfocus is mainly on educational/funtrips and traditional camp activities:instructional swimming, arts & crafts,projects, recreational sports, etc...

DATES & HOURS OFOPERATIONThe Chinatown YMCA Summer DayCamp is an eight-week program thatruns from June 29 - August 26.

Camp hours are:9:00 am - 6:00 pm

Extended hours are:Houston Street 8:00 am - 6:00 pmHester Street 8:00 am - 6:30 pm

REGISTRATION PROCEDURESRegistration forms are available fromthe membership desk at our branch.One session payment non-refundabledeposit (Houston St) or $100 and $47registration fee (Hester St) is requiredwith your application to reserve yourchild’s space until June 6th. At thetime of registration you will receive amedical form, which must be filledout by a doctor and signed by par-ent/guardian. Department of Healthregulations also require a completedmedical form to be on file for eachchild prior to the first day of camp.Registration begins January 10th,2011.

Membership Office Hours:Monday - Sunday9:00 am - 6:00 pm

PARENT ORIENTATIONParent Orientation is mandatory. Par-ent or guardian must attend one ofthe following sessions:

Hester Street: 6/23 5:00 pmHouston Street: 6/24 5:00 pm

* Camp T-shirts and bags will be dis-tributed during this time.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCEThe YMCA of Greater New York awardsscholarships to campers based on aparent or a family’s annual income.Families awarded scholarships will re-ceive a payment plan schedule. Thescholarship applications will be avail-able January 10, 2011 and the dead-line is June 10, 2011. Please Note:that the application for financial as-sistance does not reserve a seat foryour child in camp. In order to reserveyour seat you must pay the deposit of$100 per two week session of camp.

Financial Assistance applications canbe obtained from our Member ServiceDesk as well as online at www.ym-canyc.org/chinatown. All required pa-perwork must be attached with thefinancial aid form. After careful con-sideration of all requests, financial aidrecipients will be notified within 10days of receipt of application. SIBLING DISCOUNT10% off each additional Sibling.Discounts can not be combined.

REFUND & CREDIT POLICYCamp fees are non-refundable unlessthe YMCA cancels a camp/class. Thedeposit of $147 is nonrefundable andnon-transferable. If a camper cannotattend camp for the period of timepaid, a request for a credit is to bemade to the Camp Director stating thereason the child cannot attend, alongwith supporting documents. Creditswill be issued at the Director’s andbusiness office discretion. There willbe no refunds or credits granted laterthan 30 days after the class/programbegins.

CAMP GEAREach child will receive two t-shirtsand a bag. Swim caps will be givenduring the camper swim test on 1stday of camp. Camp T-shirts must beworn every day Additional shirts maybe purchased at $10.00 each. Swimgear should consist of towels, swim-suits, water shoes and a plastic bag(or other receptacle for wet swimgear). Camp shirts will be given outduring parent orientation.

MORNING DROP OFF &AFTERNOON PICK UP

Houston StreetOur camp doors open at 8:00am (noearlier) at the Houston St Center lo-cated at 273 Bowery Street. Earlydrop off will be held in the studio.Only children registered for early dropoff can attend; otherwise regular dropoff begins at 9:00 am in the gym. Dis-missal will be held from 5:00 pm -6:00 pm. The location is TBA.

Hester StreetOur camp doors open at 8:00 am (noearlier) at MS 131 located at 100 Hes-ter Street. Only children registeredfor early drop off can attend; other-wise regular drop off begins at9:00am. Drop off will be held in theauditorium.

Pick up will be held in the auditoriumfrom 5:30 pm - 6:00 pm. (Any pick uparrangements that need to be mademust be made no later than 11am thatday). Extended pick up is from 6:00pm - 6:30 pm (we must have at least10 children to hold this program). Pickup will be located in the South Cafe-teria.

Please note: If there are any camperswho have not registered for early dropoff but have been dropped off early(8:00 am - 8:45 am), you will becharged the early drop off fee. In ad-dition, all children under 18 yearsmust be supervised in the building atall times.

If you do not pay for the extendedpick up and are late in picking up yourchild, you will be charged a late pickup fee of $30 for every 15 minutesyour are late.

MEDICAL INFORMATIONIf your child is injured, the Basic LifeSupport and First Aid will be adminis-tered. Camp staff will take whateversteps necessary to administer careand/or obtain emergency medicalcare. These steps include, but are notlimited to:

1. Administer First Aid

2. If necessary, an ambulance will becalled and a staff person will accom-pany the child to the emergency roomof the nearest hospital until the par-ent/guardian arrives.

3. Parent/guardian or emergencycontact person will be notified.

ILLNESSAll allergies and medical conditionsmust be made aware of to the Child-care Office. Sick children are not tobe sent to camp. In the event thatyour child becomes ill during thecamp day, a parent or guardian will benotified and arrangements must bemade to have the child picked up assoon as possible.

STRONG KIDS CARDThe YMCA Strong Kids Card is part ofthe YMCA of Greater New York’s com-mitment to improving the health andfitness of New York City’s kids age 5-17. Every YMCA branch in New YorkCity is reaching out to kids in theirneighborhood programs to enroll themin the YMCA Strong Kids Card, simplypick up a brochure at the membershipdesk, fill it out, and send it with yourchild to their YMCA program. Thenwe’ll take their picture and print theirvery own Strong Kids Card. They’ll usetheir card to access their local YMCAduring designated days and times ofthe Strong Kids Card activities.

KINDER CAMPA wonderful place for your little ones! We create opportunities for them to ex-plore the world around them, and to encourage freedom of expression of ideasand feelings. Activities include recreational swimming, music, dance, games,arts & crafts, rips and much more! Naptime will be planned to balance out along day of activities. A unique program designed to help young children de-velop their many basic intellectual, emotional, physical, and social skills. MeetsMonday through Friday from 9:00 am - 6:00 pm.

DAY CAMPWe have been providing a safe and fun Day Camp for our kids for over 30 years.Our program of creative arts, games, sports, recreational swimming, and aca-demic learning experiences continue the tradition of having a child grow inspirit, mind and body. SPECIALTY CLASSES @ HESTER STREET

KARATEIntroduce your child to the art of karate. Students will learn techniques andforms, which develop speed, power, focus, and balance to instill self-discipline,self-confidence, and healthy lifestyle habits. The YMCA provides a safe learn-ing environment for your child. Beginners and intermediates are welcome!Meets Wednesdays & Fridays from 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm.

BASKETBALLThis class provides an instructional environment where participants can learnthe fundamentals of basketball; they will develop skills and team play whilehaving fun. Experienced coaches will work with you on physical fitness, skill de-velopment and beginner skills. Then you’ll apply your individual skills in actualgame situations, learn about teamwork, and enjoy the fun and excitement ofbeing involved in a team sport. No experience is necessary and all levels of ex-perience are welcome. Meets Tuesdays & Thursdays from 9:15 am - 11:15 am.

DANCEDance has many wonderful outlets for artistic expression. It develops a senseof grace, flexibility, strength, and musicality. Learn different forms of dance,which can help you to acquire good physical condition. The YMCA provides asafe, structured learning environment for your child. Beginners and interme-diates are welcome! Meets Tuesdays & Thursdays from 9:15 am - 11:15 am.
