• In 221 B.C.E, Qin Shi Huang the first emperor of Qin Dynasty established a unified state

• This period of society continued until after war in 1840• The four great inventions of China then were gunpowder,

printing, the compass, and paper making• Also in 1840, Britain started the Opium War against

China• In 1911, a democratic revolution led by Sun Yat- Sen

established a monarchy, and the Republic of China• In 1949, Chinese Communist Party established the

Peoples Republic of China• In 1978, China adopted the open door policy
