Returning Staff – Lisa Carmichael 1CB and Monica Wieland 1MH are our

“new” staff in 2016. Monica returns to us after a 12 month exchange to another school while Lisa returns after Family Leave. We welcome both back to Chilwell. We also welcome Ms Cheryl Minett who has been appointed OOSHC Co-ordinator for 2016. Cheryl has had much experience in our program. Also, welcome to Deakin 4th Year students who will be with us for 3 weeks – Evangelina Willetts who will be in 0SJ and Alex Pink who will be with 4JS. 2016 will present our community with challenges as well as supplying many opportunities to celebrate our successes.

Allergies: Chilwell Primary School has a large number of children who have a reaction to certain foods, especially nut products. We have 9 children who are affected to varying degrees and in some cases it is life threatening! The exposure to nut products, even small quantities, could result in tragic consequences. Our school has developed comprehensive procedures to draw attention to this issue and also reacted if an incident occurs HOWEVER families are asked to support this by not sending nut products to school for snacks or lunch. With such a large number of students in the school your support is very much appreciated in ensuring the welfare of these children.

Page 3: Chilwell Primary School No. 2061chilwellps.vic.edu.au/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Newsletter-Feb-2-2016.pdf · Chilwell Primary School has a large number of children who have a reaction

Family Returns: We have sent home a number of permission forms for families to fill out and return to school. We hope this makes life easier for parents to do these in one document. Please remember these are voluntary but we must get returns from all families. - Parent Contribution – white form - Student Agreement – green form - Parent Occupation Group form – yellow form

Parent Contribution: The children will have brought home details of the 2016 Parent Contribution. These monies, as outlined in the letter, provide for our Physical Education program and the books and stationery for each of the children.

Our monies donated to the Building Fund (this donation is tax deductible – but cannot be in lieu of school fees) will be directed towards the redevelopment of the area outside the relocatables.

Congratulations to our 2016 School Leaders. Semester 1 Oscar Dowling and Bella Marles (Captains)

Lucy Briggs and Will Swan (Vice Captains) Semester 2. Oscar Jarman and Anna Ward (Captains)

Bain and Anna Callan (Vice Captains)

Uniform: Our school, unlike many, have a VOLUNTEER coordinator who sources and supplies uniform for our students. We are very grateful to Jodie and parents in the past who have filled this role. At the same time, our parents need to understand that the coordinator is not paid and under no circumstances should she be contacted regarding uniform orders or supply unless she agrees. Jodie runs a business in our area and her contact details are readily accessible. This naturally does not mean that her business life, home life is also part of her Uniform life. Please understand and appreciate the role is voluntary and assist every family, but we must respect the person is not 24/7 uniform.

Canteen: Details for Friday’s canteen is in today's newsletter. We have

outsourced the canteen supply so to operate successfully we have 3 options which must be adhered to.

Skoolbag App: Much of our information to families is relayed through this

app which is free and readily available. Instructions to download are in today's newsletter. Our newsletter is also available through the app or our homepage.

Overload: Apologies for the paper warfare that occurs every year at this time. We try to minimize the requirements but all documents, information and returns are the minimum we need.

Birthdays. Happy birthday to the following students who will be celebrating their birthday next week.

Regards, Gavan Welsh, Principal

Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF). Do You hold a Health Care Card? The Victorian Government have unveiled a new initiative to ensure all Victorian students can take part in school trips and sporting activities. The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF) will run over four years and provide payments for eligible students to attend camps, sports and excursions. Families holding a valid means-tested concession card or temporary foster parents are eligible to apply. $125 per year will be paid for eligible primary school students, with $225 per year paid for eligible secondary school students. Payments will go directly to the school and be tied to the student. Criteria 1 – Eligibility. To be eligible for the fund, a parent or legal guardian of a student attending a registered Government or non-government Victorian primary or secondary school must: on the first day of Term one (29/01/2016), or; on the first day of Term two (11/04/2016);

a) Be an eligible beneficiary within the meaning of the State Concessions Act 2004, that is, be the holder of a Veterans Affairs Gold Card or be an eligible Centrelink Health Care Card (HCC) or Pensioner Concession Card (PCC) holder, OR b) Be a temporary foster parent, and; c) Submit an application to the school by the due date – 29th February 2016. Parents who receive a Carer Allowance on behalf of a child, or any other benefit or allowance not income tested by Centrelink, are not eligible for the CSEF unless they also comply with one of (a) or (b) above. Criteria 2 - Be of school age and attend a Victorian school. School is compulsory for all Victorian children aged between 6 and 17 years of age. For the purposes of CSEF, students may be eligible for assistance if they attend a Victorian registered primary or secondary school. Typically, these students are aged between 5 and 18 years. CSEF is not payable to students attending pre-school, kindergarten, home schooled, or TAFE. Applications for parents. Parents or legal guardians Parents or legal guardians are required to complete a CSEF application form and lodge it with their child’s school for processing.

Application forms should be completed and lodged with schools by the due date as payments are made each year during term three. Application forms are available from the school office. Please bring your Centrelink Health Care Card. Shared custody. The CSEF system only allows one application per student. Parents in shared custody situations are encouraged to make decisions as to who applies for the CSEF. How the CSEF will be paid. School administrators will enter the parent/legal guardian’s information from the application form. CSEF payments will be made directly to schools.

CHILWELL PRIMARY SCHOOL CYBERSMART POLICY

1. Rationale Chilwell Primary School embraces the presence and use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) as an integral part of the learning environment. However, the use of ICT must be complemented by clearly articulated roles, responsibilities and expectations of those who use the technology. The CyberSmart policy seeks to ensure the smart, safe and responsible use of ICT within the Chilwell school community, Definitions Cybersmart - the way in which users behave responsibly online to keep themselves and their friends safe. It incorporates the safe and desirable use of the internet, ICT equipment and devices. It is being proactive about cyberbullying, being aware of our digital footprint and how to behave appropriately and respectfully online.

Cyberbullying – direct verbal or indirect bullying behaviours using digital technologies. (Sourced from www.education.vic.gov.au/school/principals/spag/safety/Pages/bullying.aspx

2. Aims

● To ensure students, staff and parents are aware of their roles and shared responsibilities in relation to cyber safety and appropriate online behaviours.

● To develop the skills, knowledge, attitudes and behaviours required of students, staff and parents to participate and function safely and responsibly online.

● Incorporate technologies into the classroom that model safe and respectful online practises and behaviours.

● To educate our students about acceptable, responsible and safe communication online, emphasising a zero tolerance to cyberbullying.

3. Implementation

Chilwell Primary School promotes partnerships between all members of the school community in adhering to this policy. Our approach to being cybersmart aligns with our school values. It is supported by our eSmart accreditation, ICT Acceptable Use Agreement, the ‘You Can Do It’ program, the Student Engagement and Well-Being Policy, and our Privacy Policy.

4. Prevention ● The school is responsible for implementing appropriate programs and strategies that promote

positive online behaviours and cybersafe practices. This will be achieved through a range of classroom-based online student learning and continuous professional learning for staff. Parent education opportunities will be utilised such as eSmart initiatives, Connect Ed Online Program, accessing Cybersafety experts, promoting cybersafe websites, support materials and publishing relevant information via school newsletter and Skoolbag App.

● All staff, students and parents are responsible for acting in accordance with the school’s annual ICT User Agreements, and to work in partnership to ensure the safe and productive use of ICT.

● The school has the authority to monitor, access and review all school-based ICT usage by students, staff and parents. This includes emails sent and received on the school’s computers and/or network facilities. The school has the authority to audit, at any time, any material located on equipment that is owned or leased by the school, or the school’s network.

● Chilwell Primary School’s Privacy Policy will support this policy.

5. Intervention ● Students, staff and parents will be advised to report any breaches of the ICT User Agreement or

incidents of cyberbullying activity to a staff member, ● Any incidences or allegations of behaviour that are in apparent breach of Chilwell’s ICT User

Agreements will be thoroughly investigated by the school. ● Significant breaches made by, or involving, students will result in the school notifying the parents of

those students. ● Where a breach is deemed to be extremely serious, DET’s Conduct and Ethics branch may be

contacted. ● The school’s response to alleged breaches will involve dialogue with the person(s) who have allegedly

committed the breach, and any person(s) harmed as a result of the alleged breach. This dialogue may result in subsequent action and/or user agreement privileges being reviewed.

● All actions and responses taken and proposed will be documented, and all persons involved will be

informed. ● The school’s response will also consider the ICT Breaches and Consequences devised by Year 6 ICT

leaders. ● The progress and well-being of any student involved in breaches will be monitored and evaluated in

line with our Student Engagement & Well-Being Policy. ● Where cyberbullying has been identified, counselling and support may be offered, as determined by

the school. 6. Review

Acceptable Use Agreement Part A: School profile statement Chilwell Primary School recognises the need for students to be safe and responsible users of digital technologies. We believe that explicitly teaching students about safe and responsible online behaviours is essential, and is best taught in partnership with parents/guardians. We request that parents/guardians work with us and encourage this behaviour at home. The school profile statement should focus on programs and procedures that are in place to support safe and responsible uses of digital technologies. This statement can define how the school demonstrates their duty of care for students working in online spaces. At Chilwell Primary School we: • support the rights of all members of the school community to engage in a safe, inclusive and supportive learning

environment. • have a Student Engagement Policy that clearly states our school’s values and the expected standards of student

behaviour, including actions and consequences for inappropriate behaviour. • educate our students to be safe and responsible users of digital technologies. • raise our students’ awareness of issues such as online privacy and intellectual property including copyright. • supervise students when using digital technologies for a clear educational purposes. • provide a filtered internet service but acknowledge that full protection from inappropriate content can never be

guaranteed. • respond to issues or incidents that have the potential to impact on the wellbeing of our students. • inappropriate use of technology will either be handled by the school or with the police depending

on their severity. • support parents/guardians to understand the importance of safe and responsible use of digital technologies, the

potential issues that surround their use and strategies that they can implement at home to support their child • Provide parents/guardians with a copy of this agreement.

Part B: Safe and responsible behaviour Chilwell Primary School is pleased to offer students access to the internet and electronic mail (email) facilities. We strongly believe in the educational value of these electronic services and recognise their potential to support student learning. Chilwell Primary School will make every effort to protect students from any misuses or abuses using telecommunications. We have local and department filters on our internet provider and email domain. Some materials found on the internet may contain some items that are unsuitable; however we believe that the positive opportunities for students will exceed any disadvantages students may face in using the internet or accessing email. The responsibility for setting and conveying standards is a joint responsibility with families and the school. We believe that access is a privilege - not a right as access involves responsibility. Please discuss the following guidelines for using the internet and email with your child and sign where indicated. This document is to be used in conjunction with Chilwell Primary School’s other policies and documents such as:

● Student Engagement & Well Being Policy ● Cybersmart Policy ● Privacy Policy ● You Can Do It! Framework ● eSmart framework ● Allannah & Madeline Foundation supporting material used within the school ● DET guidelines ● ICT Offences and Consequences (Developed by ICT committee)
