Iconic, Timeless, and Packedwith Musical Diamonds!Relive the Golden Years of Blues, Swing, and Boogie-Woogie with the Sensational...

JUMP!The tunes, the glamour, the dynamite entertainment and excitement; the years when blues, swing, and boogie-woogie ruled the airwaves and concert halls really were a golden era of music – and the magic lives on with Diana Lines’ Jump! A Celebration of Swing, Boogie, and Blues. Coming to the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on April 15, 2016, this sensational musical revue will take you right back to the days of big band energy, soulful blues and swing, and foot tappin’ boogie-woogie – and make you feel like you’re at the biggest musical party of the century!

Created by Diane Lines, Jump! is a star-studded musical extravaganza that celebrates the soundtrack of a generation. Covering everything from the youthful vitality of the late 40s right up to the birth of rock n’ roll, the show is filled with unforgettable classics, a few hidden hits, and the very best of the timeless tunes that had folks dancin’ and swingin’ the world over.

And with a stellar career at the heart of jazz and big band music – including being the principle pianist and vocalist of the Dal Richards Orchestra - Diane truly is the perfect performer to bring this era to life once again. Possessing a vibrant voice that is matched only by her skill on the piano and an enchanting stage presence, Diane captures all the charisma and flair of those inimitable artists – and pours plenty of her personal passion for their music into the show. “The period the show covers really was an exciting era in American music” Diane says. “It included artists like Louis Jordan and his Timpani 5, Big Joe Turner, Wynonie Harris, Ella Mae Moore, Diana Washington and the Nat King Cole Trio, and lots of other wonderful artists. I was drawn to this kind of music when I was a little girl and I heard a woman named Jane Vasey who was this fantastic boogie-woogie barrel-house piano player. I had just started piano lessons and I thought – ‘wow, I wanna play like that!’”

Fast-forward a few decades and Diane’s wish has come true – and with this show you’ll see her talents in action as she takes you through the best years of American music, with an incredible live band recreating the infectious rhythm and groove of the time.

And just to add an extra jazzy touch, Diane and company will be joined by an extra special guest… Chilliwack’s own Bria Skonberg! Bria’s unbelievable talents as a jazz trumpet player have garnered widespread acclaim throughout North America and taken her to the thrilling heights of life in NYC - and this spring she’ll be making a trip back from the Big Apple to perform for her hometown audience at this special show.

So make sure to experience the golden era of music when Diane and Bria partner up for a night of swing, jazz, and big band energy with Jump! A Celebration of Swing, Boogie, and Blues. Tickets are $35 for adults, $32 for seniors, and $30 for students.

Jump! A Celebration of Swing, Boogie, and Blues is generously sponsored by Chilliwack Symphony Orchestra & Chorus, Chilliwack Times, City of Chilliwack, Province of British Columbia, British Columbia Arts Council, Department of Canadian Heritage.

GYPSYThe Broadway musical Gypsy is “a musical fable” suggested by the memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee. The fable starts with a vaudeville audition for Gypsy (Louise) and her sister June. Their mother Rose, comes on, tells everyone what to do, and then backs it up with a threatening hat-pin. Rose takes the girls on the vaudeville circuit, and under her guidance, they grow into young women on the road. But the end of vaudeville and the start of the great depression leaves Rose facing the end of their vaudeville career in a burlesque house. Louise reluctantly agrees to do a striptease as a last-ditch effort to remain on stage and becomes a burlesque star. The domineering Rose is left struggling to find her place in Louise’s shiny new life.
