WelcomeChild Studies 9 is a full year course that alternates every second week with Technology EducationYou will receive 90 minutes of instruction every 2 weeks

3 ModulesModule 1: Nurturing Growth and Development: Students will be expected to integrate knowledge and skills required by caregivers to influence the welfare of children

- Development: Pregnancy through toddler years

- Parenting- Infant/Young Child Care- Child Safety- Child Care Careers

Module 2: Nutrition for Children: Students will be expected to explain the importance of providing healthy food choices for children.

- Modeling positive food experiences

- Healthy food selection- Safe food preparation

Module 3: Learning Through Activity: Students will be expected to explore how children develop and learn through daily experiences.

- Value of play- Toy Safety and

Appropriateness- Facilitating play,

Assessment and Evaluation

You will be assessed based on a variety of activities that include: Written analysis, reflections, demonstrations, role plays, journal entries, projects, tests etcYou will be given a percentage grade each term and a final cumulative grade at the end of the year

Class ExpectationsYou are expected to arrive to class on time with the necessary supplies. You must bring a pen/pencil, 3-ring binder with loose leaf to every class.

It is your responsibility to keep your binder up-to-date. If you are absent from class, make arrangements to borrow a classmate’s binder to copy any written notes. The day you return to school, ask the teacher for the handouts and assignments you missed. You will be required to pass in any assignments on the due date unless special arrangements have been made with the teacher.

Please check the website regularly for updates, worksheets, powerpoint and homework assignments and due dates

Your 3-ring binder is to be used to hold all the handouts, assignments, written notes and journal entries for each lesson.

Assignment- Journal Entry

Examine your present personality – what you like and do not like, how you react to things or people, what your habits are, etc. Identify three or four factors in your childhood that have influenced your personal development and have aided in forming your present personality. These factors may be individuals, events, places, etc. In 1 page, write about these influences and how you feel about them. Include ideas that you as a parent or caregiver may do differently and what you would do the same with your own children or children for which you may care.
