I. Overview of Children Sponsorship Program:

Program Site/Company Profile:

Samaritana Transformation Ministries Inc. is located at # 9 Kent St. East Fairview, Quezon City 1118 Metro Manila, Philippines.

Samaritana Transformation Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization committed to sharing and living out the Gospel among Filipino women caught in prostitution, in partnership with other members of the Body of Christ.

Inspired by Jesus’ example, Samaritana reaches out to modern-day Samaritan women. by offering them community, friendship and accompaniment, these women are also slowly freed up to be who they truly are, as people loved just for who they are, regardless of their backgrounds, and valued for who they can yet become as they begin to trust in themselves and others and as they renew and pursue their dreams and aspirations.

Samaritana primarily offers a day center training program for women survivors of prostitution

that aims to facilitate their emotional, mental, social and economic transformation through relevant activities. The training program has the following major program components: Intellectual Development, Psycho-Spiritual Intervention, Economic Empowerment, and Leadership and Service.

Program Overview: Children Sponsorship Program (CSP) The Children’s Sponsorship Program of Samaritana was launched in 2007 primarily to assist and support women towards their journey of transformation. Assisting women’s children and sibling’s education will pave the way for the sponsored children to have better economic opportunities in the future, and thus avoid or prevent their vulnerability to exploitative situations.

Objectives: To send 15 children to school for academic year 2015-2016 To prepare a scholar for further education in the following year.

Clientele: The children and sibling of women who have spent time in sex industry, with whom currently a Samaritana trainee for the past 1 year.

Methods: The program staff (Educational Program Coordinator) Ms. Maria Teresa Vital with Mr. Rommel Domingo (Project Assistant Staff) and 4 servant trainee leaders will set up, assist the children and mothers, monitor, supervise, and evaluate this year’s scholarship program. Children will attend their local public schools where they will receive regular visits for the purpose of monitoring and assisting them. All school related fees covered by the scholarship will be paid directly to schools or reimbursement and every scholar will receive a monthly allowance for school transportation and or snacks. The cost of all school fees, supplies and transportation will be covered up to the maximum allocation per child.

Personnel Input: Our program Staff (Educational Program Coordinator) Ms. Maria Teresa Vital and Mr. Rommel Domingo will coordinate the entire task related to the scholarship program and they will work with our 4 servant trainee leader who will participate in the monitoring process.

Facilities/Resources: Samaritana Center as a base for twice a week meetings with the mothers who are responsible for each scholars. The team people involved in implementing the program, Educational Coordinator,Project Assistant Staff and 4 servant trainee leaders. A budget of peso to cover the cost of school supplies given out by Samaritana, books school fees, school transportation and 25 % for administrative cost. Program Procedures and Policies:

1. Who are qualified to apply for the Children Sponsorship Program? Children and or sibling of prostituted women under the training program. 2. Duration of the scholarship: 10 months 3. Children’s/Women’s responsibilities: Children are to attend Sunday school in a local church Must show quarterly report cards and monthly attendance cards for school Children’s mothers attend parents’ meetings on a regular basis (twice a month every 1st Friday

and 3rd Friday of the month, ALS (Alternative Learning System) every Thursday afternoon and Prayer day every last Friday of the month.

4. Process of screening the children scholars: Promote scholarship and give orientation about the Child Scholarship program and policies for

children Have mother fill out application form and make an application letter, citing the purpose of the

application, the child’s school level in the elementary school or high school. Set schedule or meeting to interview the mothers and children, and visit children’s school to

confirm enrollment of the children. Set time for children’s mothers to call Samaritana for approval or disapproval of application.

Assist mothers in looking for a Christian church where children scholars could attend Sunday school. 5. Monitoring of children’s schooling Spot visits to children’s homes or schools. Attendance of children scholars’ mothers to agreed schedule of meetings, fellowships,

counseling sessions and other relevant seminars and retreats Children’s weekly attendance to Sunday school. 6. Counselling Session- the mother’s should attend once week counseling session for them

handling the being responsible parents. 7. Grounds for termination of scholarship Non-compliance to policies Giving of false information 8. Transfer of Scholarship

In cases where children were terminated from the scholarship, the slot will be open for others who want to apply for it. And the newly accepted scholar will only use the remaining funds allotted for him/her.

II. CSP Annual Report for School Year 2014-2015

CSP Activity Report

A. Education and Monitoring of Children

1) For School Year 2014-15, assistance was extended to a total of 21 students: five (5) Kindergarten,

ten(10) elementary pupils,three(3) high school students and three (3) College Students(see Appendix A -

SY 2014-15 Profile CSP Scholars). The assistance included in-kind gifts, monthly cash allowances, and

monitoring visits.

2) Provision of school supplies, bag, 1 set of school uniform/P.E uniform, 1 pair of school shoes, 1 umbrella/raincoat and monthly school allowances for those in the elementary and high school levels. 3) Once a quarter school visit and home visit to check the progress and development of the sponsored children.

B. Mother’s Meeting

1) Monthly meetings were held every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month.

2) Some of the issues dealt with at the meeting are the following: Health and Nutrition of the children,

Status of the women trainee from regular to reliever trainee, Trainees who exited the program before

the School Year ends, Number of children who can avail of the sponsorship per family.

C. Christmas Party-December 2014

Around 40 Mother and Children and 10 Staff attended the Christmas Gathering last December

13, 2014 at Jollibee Kids Party. Mother and Child have bonded together through games, fellowship and

sharing of thanksgiving for the last two quarter since the school started. One shared that she is thankful

there is Samaritana an NGO who is a channel for the Child Sponsorship Program. Another shared she is

grateful that her child can study through the Program. Please find below photo of the said event.

D. Tutorials

We have three College Students who helped in the tutorial sessions every Saturday namely: Lyra

Canale, Genneluz delos Santos and Joy Terese Vital. We have one Staff, Willie de Vera who helped in the

Art Classes. Our focus is on pre-reading skills, numeracy and the arts. Many of our grade school students

are still in the developing stage. Our goal is for them to reach the proficiency stage. The photo shown

E. CSP Fellowship on Study Habits

As part of the intervention program for children and youth in the sponsorship program, we have

conducted a workshop on Study Habits and invited Bro. Jong Vital to share his experience as a scholar

himself while studying in the University.
