Chicken Little Booklet Year 7- Machine Skills &
Materials
Chicken Little
In this unit of work you will develop your practical and design
skills. The aim of the project is to develop your knowledge and
understanding of the sewing machine and Materials. You will
demonstrate safe use of the sewing machine and produce a chicken
beanbag toy. You will research into a variety of fabrics and
demonstrate a greater understanding of fabric properties.
Assessment ObjectivesIn this project you will be assessed on how
well you can:
Use the Sewing Machine safely and correctly. Research a variety
of Materials. Extend your knowledge of textile production.

complete the history time paragraph.
You have suggested 5 sources of research and correctly
identified the missing history time words In addition to level 4
you have correctly suggested the most appropriate research methods
and explained which method would be the most useful.

Understanding of the Sewing machine
You have shown a basic understanding of how to use the sewing
machine and you have correctly identified some of the sewing
machine controls.
You have correctly identified all of the machine controls and
shown a good understanding of how a sewing machine works. You have
also passed your sewing machine test.In addition to level 3&4
you have consistently worked in a safe manner during practical
lessons and are able to identify each part of the sewing machine
correctly.
EvaluationOnce you have completed your chicken you must evaluate
it by discussing the best and worst parts of your final
product.

Use sewing machine safely and correctly
You have used a range of tools with some accuracy to cut and
prepare your chicken sample. You have demonstrated a basic
understanding of safety and have produced your chicken with some
straight lines and corners.
You have also worked safely when producing your chicken sample.
You have paid attention to how your chicken is finished and the
felt pieces are in the correct place.
In addition to level 3&4 you have selected and used a range
of tools and equipment, using them safely with accuracy. Your
chicken is well constructed and you have inspected your finished
product and made changes where needed.

steps. You have also shown a basic understanding of materials and
properties.
You have completed the chicken story board in the correct order
and completed the missing words. You have also identified a range
of fibres and matched correctly their end uses.In addition to level
3&4 you have wrote your own story board and discussed the main
parts of the production. You have also shown a good and accurate
understanding of all fibres, properties, origins and end uses.
PhotographTake a photo of your final chicken and stick it in the
box below.
Peer Assessment
Look closely at your final product and ask 2 friends to level
it, record carefully their levels and then assess it yourself, you
must also explain why you think this.
