It is indeed a joyous occasion, to be able to celebrate mass with our bishop in a church of our own. For most of the parents, it may not mean much but for us youth and children it is a unique experience since this is the first and the only Knanaya church outside Kerala. I am not just speaking for myself, but also for all the rest of the youth when I say, this is a turning point in our spiritual as well as social growth. Growing up both in California and here in Chicago, my brother and I lead a quite life not having many Knanaya friends and therefore not having as much interest in our traditions and customs. Because there were very limited opportunities for us to get involved and foster relationships other than the occasional get together organ-ized by the associations.

That all changed on a beautiful summer day in 2006. Due to the hard work and dedication by Fr. Mutholath and many others, we were blessed with this beautiful church. At first, it was difficult for me to understand the impor-tance of having a separate church, but soon I realized that this is something that I should be proud of and cherish. My brother and I started to come to church on a regular basis with our parents. With some persuasion I got involved in the Religious Education program as a kindergarten teacher. That was the beginning of a beautiful journey in my life. Last year I graduated along with my students into the first grade and I am looking forward to another fruitful year of sharing and learning and continue my journey in my spiri-tual growth.

REGISTRATION FOR RELIGIOUS EDUCATION SCHOOLS

Registration for Sacred Heart and St. Mary’s Religious Educations Schools of our Parish will start on Sunday, August 3, 2008. Regular Sunday School Classes will start on September

7, 2008. Fee and Class schedule will as of last year. Application form will be available at the church or at

the parish website: www.knanayaregion.us/chicago. Parents of all new and ongoing students shall fill up the

form and submit it along with registration fees. Application form and fee can also be mailed in the par-

ish address given in the application form.

Kunnassery, Sabu Mutho-lath, and many others, we flourished and established several ministries. Residen-tial youth retreats, several one day seminars, blood drives, Religious festivals, etc. uplifted our faith and gave us opportunities to cherish and value our faith and cultural experience. Today, I look forward to coming to church every Sun-day, being able to socialize with my friends on a regular basis, growing in my faith while deepening my commitment to uphold and continue the century’s old traditions and customs. Seeing all the children, aunties and uncles laugh and enjoy being in church and with one another is a site that is difficult to de-scribe. All this is possible because of the regularity and the environment that only a church can provide.

In conclusion, I have a humble request to Your Excel-lency. Since all the youth and children who come to this church are enjoying all the benefits of having a church, please convey a message of hope and help us share in the enthusiasm and optimism with the other youth and children and encourage them to get involved so they can also have the benefit that we are having. Knowing what we are get-ting, it hurts me to know that there are Knanaya youth and children out there who are missing out on this tremendous journey. Once again thank you for your inspiration and leadership and wish you a blessed journey.
