4 Infotainment System

OverviewRead this manual thoroughly tobecome familiar with how thenavigation system operates.

The navigation system includesnavigation and audio functions.

Keeping your eyes on the road andyour mind on the drive is importantfor safe driving. The navigationsystem has built-in featuresintended to help with this bydisabling some features whendriving. A grayed-out function isnot available when the vehicle ismoving.

All functions are available when thevehicle is parked. Do the followingbefore driving:. Become familiar with the

navigation system operation,buttons on the faceplate, andtouch-sensitive screen buttons.

. Set up the audio by presettingfavorite stations, setting thetone, and adjusting thespeakers.

. Set up the navigation features,such as entering an address or apreset destination.

. Set up phone numbers inadvance so they can be calledeasily by pressing a singlebutton or a single voicecommand for navigation systemsequipped with phone capability.

{ WARNING

Taking your eyes off the road toolong or too often while using thenavigation system could cause acrash and you or others could beinjured or killed. Focus yourattention on driving and limitglances at the moving map on thenavigation screen. Use voiceguidance whenever possible.



Use the navigation system to:. Plan a route.. Select a destination using

various methods and choices.. Follow turn-by-turn route and

map guidance with voiceprompts, only if permitted bytraffic laws, controls, andconditions.

. Receive RDS broadcastannouncements.

Always be alert and obey traffic androadway laws and instructions,regardless of the guidance from thenavigation system. Because thenavigation system uses street mapinformation that does not includeall traffic restrictions or the latestroad changes, it may suggestusing a road that is now closed forconstruction or a turn that isprohibited by signs at theintersection. Always evaluatewhether following the system'sdirections is safe and legal for thecurrent conditions.

When the navigation system isturned on, a screen may appearwith information that must be readand acknowledged before accessingsome navigation features.

After acknowledging the start upinformation, the NAV (Navigation)and DEST (Destination) functionsare accessible. Information cannow be entered or deleted, andother functions accessed. Seeinstructions later in this section.

Every 50 times the vehicle isstarted and the navigation systemis turned on, the Caution screenappears. After reading the caution,select OK to load the mapinformation. If OK is not selected,all control buttons except forNAV (Navigation) and DEST(Destination) can be accessed.

When getting started, set yourpreferences or delete informationin the navigation system usingvarious options.



Navigation System Overview

The navigation system is controlledby using the buttons on thefaceplate and the touch screenbuttons.

Infotainment Control Buttons

The buttons on the faceplate areused to start main functions whileusing the infotainment system.

VOL/ O (Volume/Power):

1. Press to turn the system onand off.

2. Turn to adjust the volume.

SOURCE: Press to change theaudio sources such as AM-FMRadio, XM (if equipped), CD,and AUX.

TONE: Press to access thesound menu screen to adjust bass,midrange, and treble. See AM-FMRadio on page 14 for moreinformation.

INFO (Information): Press totoggle through an audio ornavigation information screen.

CONFIG (Configure): Press toadjust features for radio, navigation,display, phone, vehicle, and time.See Configure Menu on page 49for more information.

F HOME: See “Home Page”following in this section.

MENU/SEL: Turn to highlight afeature. Press to activate thehighlighted feature.

RPT (Repeat Navigation): Pressto repeat the last voice guidanceprompt.

DEST (Destination):

1. Press to enter a destination.

2. If a destination has alreadybeen entered, press toaccess the Destination Menu.See Destination on page 37 formore information.

E BACK: Press to return to theprevious screen in a menu.

If on a page accessed directly by afaceplate button or Home Pagescreen button, pressingE BACKwill go to the Home Page.

FAV (Favorite Pages 1-6):Press to display the current pagenumber above the preset buttons.The stored stations for each listdisplay on the touch-sensitivepreset buttons at the bottom ofthe screen. The number of presetFAV lists can be changed in theConfiguration Menu.

l SEEK:

1. Press to seek the next track.

2. Press and hold to fast forwardthrough a track.

3. Release the button to return toplaying speed. See CD Playeron page 21 and MP3 on page 24for more information.

4. For AM, FM, or XM (if equipped),press to seek to the next strongstation.

g SEEK:

1. Press to seek to the beginning ofthe current or previous track.If the track has been playing forless than five seconds, it seeksthe previous track. If longer thanfive seconds, the current trackstarts from the beginning.

2. Press and hold to quicklyreverse through a track.

3. Release the button to return toplaying speed. See CD Playeron page 21 and MP3 on page 24for more information.

4. For AM, FM, or XM (if equipped),press to seek to the previousstrong station.

Preset Buttons (1-6): The presetbuttons numbered one through sixcan be used to select stored AM,FM, and XM (if equipped) stations.

X (Eject): Press to eject a discfrom the CD player. See CD Playeron page 21.

Touch Screen ButtonsTouch screen buttons are on thescreen and highlighted when afeature is available. Some togglescreen buttons highlight when activeand gray out when inactive.

Home PageThe navigation system displays aHome Page that makes accessingmany of the features an easyprocess.



Back: On page 2 or 3 of theHome Page, press Back to returnto page 1 of the Home Page. Onpage 1, Back serves no function.

Home: While navigating throughother menus, press to go back tothe Home Page to start a differentfeature.

FAV: Press to display a page ofstored (favorite) AM, FM, or XM(if equipped) stations. Keeppressing FAV to scroll through thefavorite pages.

Info: Press to toggle through anaudio or a navigation informationscreen.

More: Press to cycle throughavailable Home Pages.

Menu: Press to go to the HomePage Menu.

The Home Page Menu lists theoptions Customize Home Page,Sort Icons, and Restore Main HomePage Defaults.



Out of all available Home Pageicons, up to eight icons can beselected and sorted for the firstHome Page screen.

Home Page Features

Press the Now Playing screenbutton to display the active sourcepage. The sources available areAM, FM, XM (if equipped), CD,USB/iPod, and AUX.

Press the Destination screen buttonto display the Destination EntryHome Page or the DestinationMenu. The available screen buttonsprovide easy access to a varietyof ways to enter a destination.See Destination on page 37.



Press the Phone screen button todisplay the Phone main page.See Bluetooth on page 65.

Press the Config screen button todisplay the Config main page.From this display, you can adjustfeatures such as time and date,radio, phone, navigation, vehicle,and display. See Configure Menu onpage 49.

Press the Viewer screen button toview pictures on your USB stick orSD card. Pictures on the SD cardcan only be viewed through a USBadapter.

Press the FM screen button todisplay the FM main page and playthe current or last tuned FM station.See AM-FM Radio on page 14.

Press the Tone screen button todisplay the Tone main page.Adjust the tone and speakers bypressing the screen buttons tochange the levels of sound fortreble, midrange, bass, fade, andbalance. See AM-FM Radio onpage 14.

Languages

The vehicle supports English,French (Canadian), and Spanish.The default language is English.

To change the display language,see Configure Menu on page 49later in this manual, or “VehiclePersonalization” in the Index of thevehicle owner manual for moreinformation.

English and Metric UnitConversion

To change the display units betweenEnglish and metric units, see “DriverInformation Center (DIC)” in theIndex of the vehicle owner manual.

Deleting Personal Information

The navigation system can storedestinations and personalinformation such as names andaddresses.

At times, such as when selling ordisposing of your vehicle, you maywant to delete this information:. Address Book. Previous Destinations. Home Address

(user configurable). Favorite Routes

Cleaning the Display

Notice: Using abrasive cleanerswhen cleaning glass surfacescould scratch the glass. Use onlya soft cloth and do not spraycleaner directly on the system asit could affect the mechanicalparts.

Do not wipe the panel with a hardcloth or use a volatile liquid such aspaint thinner; it could scratch thesurface or erase the characters onthe buttons.

Playing the Radio

Audio Source

VOL/ O (Volume/Power):

1. Press to turn the radio on or off.

2. Turn to increase or decreasethe volume of the active source(i.e., current audio source, activenavigation voice guidance,or traffic prompts).

The steering wheel controls canalso be used to adjust the volume.See “Steering Wheel Controls” inthe vehicle owner manual for moreinformation.

To access the radio main page,press the SOURCE button on thefaceplate, the Now Playing screenbutton, or one of the audio screenbuttons on the Home Page.

While on the audio main page,press the Source button repeatedlyto display and cycle through theavailable sources (AM, FM, andXM (if equipped), CD, USB/iPod,and AUX).

If the audio source is on whileviewing a map screen, an icon ofthat source displays at the top of themap screen. This icon also allowsthe audio source to be changedwithout leaving the navigation mode.



Press the audio source icon locatedat the top left side of the screen todisplay a pop-up menu of availableaudio source icons. Press one ofthe icons to change the source.

Navigation Audio System

Tone Settings

To access the tone settings, pressthe Home Page Tone button or theTONE button on the faceplate.

Use the tone settings to adjust thefollowing features:. Setting the tone. Adjusting the speakers

Setting the Tone

To adjust the tone:. Treble: Press + or − to change

the level.. Middle (Midrange): Press +

or − to change the level.. Bass: Press + or − to change

the level.

Adjusting the Speakers

To adjust the speaker balance:. Press the left arrow on the

bottom for more sound from theleft speakers or the right arrowon the bottom for more soundfrom the right speakers. Themiddle position balances thesound between the left and rightspeakers.

To adjust the speaker fade:. Press the upper arrow for more

sound from the front speakersand the lower arrow for moresound from the rear speakers.The middle position balancesthe sound between the front andrear speakers.



EQ Settings

The EQ settings are selectedthrough the tone menu. Press theleft or right arrows to cycle throughthe EQ options. The availablechoices are Pop, Rock, Jazz,Classical, and Talk.

Finding a Station

To select the band, see “AudioSource” earlier in this section.

Turn the MENU/SEL knob to find aradio station. To select a presetstation, press the correspondingpreset button.

Seeking a Station

Pressg SEEK orl SEEK tosearch for a station.

AM

1. Press the AM screen button onthe Home Page or select AMfrom the source pop-up todisplay the AM main page.

2. From the AM screen, press theMenu screen button to displaythe menu options.

3. Press to select the desiredoption.

Favorites List: Press to display alist of favorite preset stations.

AM Station List: Press to displaythe AM station list.

Update AM Station List: Press tostart a search for the strongeststations in your area to populate theAM Station List.



FM

1. Press the FM screen button onthe Home Page or select FMfrom the source pop-up todisplay the FM main page.

2. From the FM screen, press theMenu screen button to displaythe menu options.



FM Stations List: Press to displaythe FM station list.

FM Categories: Press to displaythe FM categories (e.g., sports,news, pop music).

Update FM Stations List: Press tostart a search for the strongeststations in your area to populate theFM Stations List.

XM (If Equipped)

1. Press the XM screen button onthe Home Page or select XMfrom the source pop-up todisplay the XM main page.

2. From the XM screen, press theMenu screen button to displaythe menu options.





XM Channels List: Press todisplay the XM channels list.

XM Categories: Press to displaythe XM categories. For availableXM categories, check the XMwebsite. For more information,see www.xmradio.com or call1-800-929-2100 in the U.S.In Canada, see www.xmradio.caor call 1-877-438-9677.

Changing the Sources

To change audio sources from anyof the audio main pages (AM, FM,XM, CD, USB/iPod, or AUX),press the SOURCE button on thefaceplate or the Source screenbutton to display a pop-up ofavailable audio sources. Touch-tapor press the SOURCE button on thefaceplate repeatedly to change thedesired source.

Storing Radio Station Presets

There are a few ways to storepresets.

Up to 36 preset stations can bestored. AM, FM, and XM,if equipped, can be mixed.

1. From the AM, FM, or XM mainpage, press and hold one of thepreset screen buttons located atthe bottom of the screen. After afew seconds, a beep will beheard and the new presetinformation will display on thatscreen button.

2. Press and hold a preset buttonon the faceplate to store thecurrently active station. After afew seconds, a beep will beheard and the new presetinformation will display on asmall pop-up display at thebottom of the screen.

3. Repeat the steps for eachpreset.



To change the number of presetpages, see “Mixed-Band Presets”following for more information.

Recalling a Preset Station

To recall a preset station from aFAV page:

. Press the FAV button on thefaceplate to display the FAVpop-up. Select the desiredpreset from the pop-up.

. Press the FAV screen button atthe top bar to display the presetpop-up that appears at thebottom of the page. Press one ofthe preset screen buttons to goto the selected preset station.

. In the AM, FM, or XM(if equipped) main page,press one of the preset screenbuttons to go to the selectedpreset station.

Mixed-Band Presets

Each page can store six presetstations. The presets within a pagecan be from different radio bands.

To scroll through the pages, pressthe FAV button on the faceplate orthe FAV screen button on the topbar. The current page numberdisplays above the preset buttons.The stored stations for each FAVpage display on the preset buttonsat the bottom of the screen.The number of FAV pages displayedcan be changed in the RadioSettings in the Configuration Menu.



Radio Data System (RDS)

Radio Settings

From the Configuration Menu,press Radio Settings. Select RDSSettings to display RDS options.

The audio system has aRadio Data System (RDS).RDS features are available foruse only on FM stations thatbroadcast RDS information.

With RDS, the radio can:. Seek to stations broadcasting

the selected type ofprogramming.

. Receive announcementsconcerning local and nationalemergencies.

. Display messages from radiostations.

This system relies on receivingspecific information from thesestations and only works when theinformation is available. In rarecases, a radio station couldbroadcast incorrect informationthat causes the radio features towork improperly. If this happens,contact the radio station.

The RDS system can be turnedon or off. When information isbroadcast from the current FMstation, the station name or callletters display on the audio screen.RDS can provide a program type(PTY) for current programming andthe name of the program beingbroadcasted.

Satellite Radio

XM™ Satellite Radio Service

Vehicles with an XM satellite radiotuner and an XM satellite radiosubscription can receive XMprogramming.

XM is a satellite radio service basedin the 48 contiguous United Statesand 10 Canadian provinces. XMsatellite radio has a wide variety ofprogramming and commercial-freemusic, coast to coast, and indigital-quality sound. A service feeis required to receive the XMservice. For more information,see www.xmradio.com or call1-800-929-2100 in the U.S.In Canada, see www.xmradio.caor call 1-877-438-9677.

When XM is active, the channelname and number, category name,song title, and artist display on thescreen.



XM Categories

XM stations are organized incategories.

To customize which XM categoriesare used and displayed in thesystem, see “Adding or RemovingCategories” following.

Adding or RemovingCategories

1. From the Home Page press theConfig screen button or theCONFIG button on the faceplate.

2. Select Radio Settings from theConfiguration Menu list.

3. Select Add/Remove XMCategories.

4. From the Add/Remove XMCategories screen, select ordeselect any category to beused in XM mode. A checkmarkwill indicate that the category isselected.

Audio Players

CD PlayerThe player can be used for CD andMP3 audio.

With the vehicle on, insert a discinto the slot, label side up.The player pulls it in and beginsplaying. While playing, thenavigation system is available.

The system is capable of playing:. Most audio CDs. CD-R. CD-RW. MP3 or unprotected WMA

formats

When playing any compatiblerecordable disc, the sound qualitycan be reduced due to disc quality,the method of recording, thequality of the music that has beenrecorded, or the way the disc hasbeen handled.

There can be increased skipping,difficulty in recording tracks,difficulty in finding tracks, and/ordifficulty in loading and ejecting.If these problems occur, check thedisc for damage or try a knowngood disc.

To avoid damage to the CD player:. Do not use scratched or

damaged discs.. Do not apply labels to discs.

The labels could get caught inthe player.

. Insert only one disc at a time.

. Keep the loading slot free offoreign materials, liquids, anddebris.

. Use a marking pen to label thetop of the disc.



Loading and Ejecting Discs

To load a disc:

1. Turn the vehicle on.

2. Insert a disc into the slot, labelside up. The player pulls it in therest of the way. If the disc isdamaged or improperly loaded,there is an error and the discejects.

The disc automatically plays onceloaded.

PressX to eject a disc from theCD player. If the disc is not removedwithin a short period of time, it isautomatically pulled back into theplayer.

Playing an Audio CD

1. Press the CD screen button onthe Home Page or select CDfrom the source pop-up todisplay the CD main page.

2. From the CD screen, press theMenu screen button to displaythe menu options.


On the CD main page a tracknumber displays at the beginning ofeach track. Song, Artist, and Albuminformation displays when available.



Use the following controls to playthe disc:

l SEEK:. Press to seek to the next track.. Press and hold to fast forward

through a track. Release thebutton to return to playingspeed. Elapsed time displays.

g SEEK:. Press to seek to the beginning of

the current or previous track.If the track has been playing forless than five seconds, it seeksto the previous track. If longerthan five seconds, the currenttrack starts from the beginning.

. Press and hold to fast reversethrough a track. Release thebutton to return to playingspeed. Elapsed time displays.

MENU/SEL Knob: Turn to the rightor left to select the next or previoustrack. Press this knob to select themenu. If a track is selected from themenu, the system plays the trackand returns to the CD screen.

Error Messages

If Disc Error displays and/or the disccomes out, it could be for one of thefollowing reasons:. The disc has an invalid or

unknown format.. The disc is very hot. Try the disc

again when the temperaturereturns to normal.

. The road is very rough. Try thedisc again when the road issmoother.

. The disc is dirty, scratched, wet,or upside down.

. The air is very humid. Try thedisc again later.

. There was a problem whileburning the disc.

. The label is caught in the CDplayer.

If the CD is not playing correctly,for any other reason, try a knowngood CD.

If any error continues, contact yourdealer.



MP3

Playing an MP3 CD

To play an MP3 CD, follow the sameinstructions as “Playing anAudio CD.”

The following guidelines must bemet when creating an MP3 disc,otherwise the CD might not play:. Sampling rate: 16 kHz,

22.05 kHz, 24 kHz, 32 kHz,44.1 kHz, and 48 kHz.

. Bit rates supported: 8, 16, 24,32, 40, 48, 56, 64, 80, 96, 112,128, 144, 160, 192, 224, 256,and 320 kbps.

. Maximum number of folders:eight folders with 255 files perfolder.

. Maximum of 1,000 files ona disc.

. Recorded on a CD-R or CD-RWwith a maximum capacity of700 MB.

. The Artist/Album/Song Titles/Genre information requires aCD to be fully scanned beforethe music navigator works withthese menus.

MP3 Music Menu

Press the Menu screen button whilethat source is active to accessthe menu.

Press any of the following buttonson the MP3 Menu:

Shuffle Songs: Press to play thetracks randomly. Press again to stopshuffle.



Playlists: Press to view theplaylists stored on the disc. Select aplaylist to view the list of all songs inthat playlist. There might be a delaybefore the list displays. Select asong from the list to begin playback.

Artists: Press to view the playlistsstored on the disc. Select a playlistto view the list of all songs in thatplaylist. There might be a delaybefore the list displays. Select asong from the list to begin playback.

Albums: Press to view the albumson the disc. Select the album toview a list of all songs on the album.There might be a delay before thelist displays. Select a song from thelist to begin playback.

Song Titles: Press to display a listof all songs on the disc. Songs aredisplayed as stored on the disc.There might be a delay before thelist displays. To begin playback,select a song from the list.

Genres: Press to view the genres.Select a genre to view a list of allsongs of that genre. Select a songfrom the list to begin playback.

Folders: Press to open a folder listto access the files within the folderstructure.

Root Directory

The root directory is treated as afolder. All files contained directlyunder the root directory areaccessed prior to any root directoryfolders.

Empty Folders

If a root directory or folder is emptyor contains only folders, the playeradvances to the next folder in thefile structure that contains acompressed audio file. The emptyfolder(s) are not displayed ornumbered.

No Folder

When the CD only containscompressed audio files without anyfolders or playlists, all files areunder the root folder.

File System and Naming

The song titles, artists, albums, andgenres are taken from the file's ID3tag and are only displayed if presentin the tag. If a song title is notpresent in the ID3 tag, the radiodisplays the file name as thetrack name.

Preprogrammed Playlists

The radio recognizespreprogrammed playlists; however,there is no editing capability.These playlists are treated asspecial folders containingcompressed audio song files.



Auxiliary DevicesThis vehicle has an auxiliaryinput jack in the center console.Possible auxiliary audio sourcesinclude:. Laptop computer. MP3 player. Tape player

This jack is not an audio output.Do not plug headphones into theauxiliary input jack. Drivers areencouraged to set up any auxiliarydevice while the vehicle is inP (Park).

Connect a 3.5 mm (1/8 in) cablefrom the auxiliary device to theauxiliary input jack. When adevice is connected, the systemautomatically begins playing audiofrom the device over the vehiclespeakers.

If an auxiliary device has alreadybeen connected, but a differentsource is currently active, press theNow Playing screen button on theHome Page, then press Sourcerepeatedly to cycle through all of theavailable audio source screens, untilthe AUX source screen is selected.

Playing from a USB

A USB mass storage device can beconnected to the USB port.

The USB port is in the centerconsole.

The USB icon displays when theUSB device is connected.

USB MP3 Player and USB Drives. The USB MP3 players and USB

drives connected must complywith USB Mass Storage Classspecification (USB MSC).

. Only USB MP3 players andUSB drives with a sector size of512 bytes and a cluster sizesmaller or equal to 32 kbytesin the FAT32 file system aresupported.

. Hard disk drives are notsupported.

. The following restrictions applyfor the data stored on a USBMP3 player or USB device:

‐ Maximum folder structuredepth: 11 levels.

‐ Maximum number ofMP3/WMA files that can bedisplayed: 1000



. WMA with Digital RightsManagement (DRM) from onlinemusic shops cannot be played.WMA files can only be playedback safely if they were createdwith Windows Media Playerversion 8 or later.

‐ Applicable playlist extensionsare: .m3u, .pls.

‐ Playlist entries must be in theform of relative paths.

‐ The system attribute forfolders/files that contain audiodata must not be set.

To play a USB device:

1. Connect the USB and it beginsto play.

2. Another way to play a USB is topress the Now Playing screenbutton on the Home Page, thenpress the SRCE button on thefaceplate repeatedly to cyclethrough all of the available audiosource screens, until the USBsource screen is selected.

While the USB source is active,use the following to operate USBfunction:

l SEEK:

1. Press to seek to the next track.

2. Press and hold to advancequickly through playback.Release the button to return toplaying speed. Elapsed timedisplays.

g SEEK:

1. Press to seek to the beginning ofthe current or previous track.If the track has been playing forless than five seconds, theprevious track plays. If playinglonger than five seconds, thecurrent track restarts.

2. Press and hold to reversequickly through playback.

3. Release the button to return toplaying speed. Elapsed timedisplays.

USB Menu

There may be problems withoperation and function in thefollowing situations:. When connecting an iPod on

which a more recent version ofthe firmware is installed than issupported by the infotainmentsystem.

. When connecting an iPod onwhich firmware from otherproviders is installed.

To connect and control an iPod,connect one end of the standardiPod USB cable to the iPod's dockconnector. Connect the other end tothe USB port in the center console.



iPod music information displays onthe radio’s display and beginsplaying through the vehicle’s audiosystem.

The iPod battery rechargesautomatically while the vehicle is on.When the vehicle is off while aniPod is connected using the iPodUSB cable, the iPod battery stopscharging and the iPod automaticallyturns off.

If the iPod is an unsupported model,it can still be listened to in thevehicle by connecting to theauxiliary input jack using a standard3.5 mm (1/8 in) stereo cable.

Navigation

Using the NavigationSystemUse the NAV button on thefaceplate or Home Page to accessthe navigation map.

Press the NAV button again tochange between alternative views ofthe normal split and full map views.



The Menu screen button located atthe bottom right side of the displayaccesses the Navigation Menu.

The touch-sensitive buttonsavailable are:

Heading Indicator

Press Heading Indicator to displaythe Map View. There are threeindicator settings:. 2D North Up — Displays North

at the top of the map screenregardless of the direction thevehicle is traveling.

. 2D Heading Up — Displays thedirection the vehicle is traveling.The shaded triangle icon pointsNorth.

. 3D Heading Up — Displays thesame as 2D Heading Up, but themap is in 3D.

Map Modes

Press to change the view of themaps while using the navigationfunction. The system offers a varietyof full and split views. Some viewsare only selectable when routeguidance is active.

An alternative method to change theview of the maps would be to pressthe map mode icon.



Traffic

Press Traffic to display the TrafficMenu. Press the desired option.

Options available are:. All Traffic Events — Press to

view all reported traffic eventswhile on or off a planned route.

. Traffic Events on Route — Pressto view traffic events while on aplanned route.

. Traffic Settings — Press tocustomize traffic options.This feature can also beaccessed by pressing the trafficlight screen button displayed atthe left lower side of the mapscreen. See Configure Menu onpage 49 in this section.

POIs Nearby

Press to display a search listof nearby POIs. Select thedesired POI.

Show POIs on Map

Press to customize which majorPOI categories are displayed onthe map.

Switch Route Time/Destination

Press to customize the Arrival/Travel time and Waypoint/Destination information displayedin the main map screen.



Current Position Information

Press to display a split screenshowing detailed information aboutthe vehicle position. This featurecan also be accessed by pressingthe vehicle information tab locatedon the lower center of the display.

Destination Information

Press to display a split mapscreen showing the nextwaypoint/destination.

Map Adjustments

The system lets you adjust the scaleof view on the map. Also, as youdrive, the map scrolls automaticallybased on the direction of travel.

Map Scales

There are twomethods to changethe map scale:. Turn the MENU/SEL knob

clockwise or counterclockwiseto zoom out or in.

. Press the Map Scale button onthe left bottom corner of themap screen to change thezoom level.

The map scale bar times out ifthe zoom level is not changedwithin a few seconds.

The scale ranges from 50m (50 yd)to 350 km (250 mi). To change frommetric to English, see “DriverInformation Center (DIC)” in theIndex of the owner manual for moreinformation.



Scroll Features

. To scroll within the map, touchanywhere on the map screenand the scroll symbol displays.

. Tap the map to center at thatlocation on the screen.

. Press and hold the screen inany direction outside the scrollsymbol to scroll the map in thatdirection.

. Scroll speed increases whentouching closer to the edge ofthe screen.

. Press NAV on the faceplate toexit map scrolling and return tothe current vehicle location onthe map.

Press the cycling arrows located atthe top of the map screen to togglefrom the normal top bar (Home,FAV, and Info) to the audioinformation bar.

MapsThis section includes basicinformation that you need toknow about the map database.

The maps are stored on aSecured Digital (SD) card that isused in the navigation system.

Detailed Areas

Road network attributes arecontained in the map database fordetailed areas. Attributes includeinformation such as street names,street addresses, and turnrestrictions. A detailed areaincludes all major highways,service roads, and residentialroads. The detailed areas includepoints of interest (POIs) such as



restaurants, airports, banks,hospitals, police stations, gasstations, tourist attractions, andhistorical monuments. The mapdatabase may not include data fornewly constructed areas or mapdatabase corrections that arecompleted after the productionof the compact flash drive.The navigation system providesfull route guidance in the detailedmap areas.

Navigation SymbolsFollowing are the most commonsymbols that appear on a mapscreen.

The vehicle symbol indicates thecurrent position and headingdirection of the vehicle on the map.

The destination symbol marks thefinal destination after a route hasbeen planned.

The waypoint symbol marks one ormore set waypoints.

A waypoint is a stopover destinationpoint added to the planned route.



The estimated time and distance tothe destination are displayed.

If waypoints have been added to thecurrent route, each waypointdestination displays estimated timeand distance.

This symbol indicates that the mapview is North up: North up displaysNorth at the top of the map screenregardless of the direction thevehicle is traveling. Select thisscreen symbol to change the viewto Heading up or 3D.

This symbol indicates that the mapview is Heading up.

Heading up view displays thedirection the vehicle is traveling atthe top of the map screen. Theshaded triangle indicates North.

Press this screen symbol to changeto 3D mode.

The 3D symbol is the same as theHeading up symbol, but the map isin 3D.

The No GPS symbol appears whenthere is no Global PositioningSystem (GPS) satellite signal.

This symbol located at the bottom ofa map screen brings up the mapmodes pop-up screen.

Destination

If route guidance is not active, pressthe Destination Entry screen buttonon the Home Page or the DESTbutton on the faceplate to accessthe Destination screen. Severaloptions can be selected to plan aroute by entering destinations.Some destination entry items suchas Previous Destinations, AddressBook, and My Home may be grayedout if no destination was previouslyentered or saved.



Alpha-Numeric Keyboard

Letters of the alphabet, symbols,punctuation, and numbers, whenavailable, display on the navigationscreen as alpha/numeric keyboards.The alpha keyboard displays whendata needs to be entered.

QWERTY or ABCDEF: Press totoggle between QWERTY orABCDEF keyboard characterlayouts.

Symbols: Use to select symbols.

Space: Use to enter a spacebetween characters or the words ofa name.

Delete: Press to delete an incorrectcharacter that has been selected.

Address Entry

Press the Address screen button todisplay the Enter Address screen.Set a route by entering the statename, city name, street name,house number, and intersection.

To make name selection easier, thesystem highlights only charactersthat are available after thepreviously entered one.

State: Select a state name.

City: Enter a city name.

Street: Enter a street name.

House No.: Enter a valid addressnumber.



Intersection: Enter a street namethat intersects with the selectedstreet.

Entering the city name first:

1. Enter the city name. The cityfield is automatically selected.

2. Enter the street name. This fieldis automatically selected.Use the Delete screen button todelete an incorrectly enteredcharacter.

A list displays if six or fewernames are available. If there aremore than six, there is a matchcounter with a number ofavailable streets. Press the Listscreen button to view the list andselect the street.

3. Enter the house number. Thisfield is automatically selected.

4. Press the Done screen button atany time and the system tries toresolve a destination based onthe entered information, thendisplays it on the DestinationConfirmation screen.

5. Press the Start Guidance screenbutton and the route calculates.

Entering the street name first:

1. Make sure the state has beenentered before selecting thestreet name field. Enter thestreet name. Do not enterdirectional information or streettype. Use the Delete screenbutton to delete an incorrectcharacter.

A list displays if six or fewernames are available. If there aremore than six, press the Listscreen button to view the list andselect the street.

2. Select the city from the list orenter the city name.

3. Enter the house number. Thisfield is automatically selected.

4. Press the Done screen button.




Points of Interest (POI)

Press the POI screen button locatedon the Destination Entry page.Several options can be selected toplan a route.

The POI entry list allows selection ofa destination.

Entering by POI name:

1. Select the State.

2. Select Search by Name.

3. Enter the POI name.

4. Select a few of the charactersor spell the name in full, bypressing on the alpha keyboard.

5. Press the List screen button,or if the list has six or feweritems, a list of POIs willimmediately display.

6. Press on the desired POI.




Previous Destinations

Select a destination from thePrevious Destination List. Up to15 points that have been previouslyentered can be recalled. If the list isfull, the oldest destinations areautomatically deleted once thenewest destinations are added.

Address Book

If no destination is saved to theaddress book, save a destination bydoing the following:

1. Press Destination on the HomePage or the DEST faceplatebutton.

2. Enter an address using any ofthe destination methods(Address, POI, etc.).

3. On the Destination Confirmationscreen, select Save.



4. The system displays the optionsName, Number, Icon, and Done.Press Done to save thedestination.

5. To customize the address bookentry, select Name, Number,or Icon.

If a destination is already saved tothe address book, press Destinationon the Home Page or the DESTfaceplate button to display theAddress Book screen button.

Choose a destination by selectingan address that has been stored inthe address book.

1. Press the Address Book screenbutton. A list displays theaddress book entries.

2. Select the destination fromthe list.


To edit Address Book entries:

1. Select an item from theaddress book.

2. On the Destination Confirmationscreen select Edit.

3. The system displays the optionsName, Number, Icon, andDelete. Press Delete to deletethe destination from theaddress book.

4. To customize the address bookentry, select Name, Number,or Icon.

Latitude/Longitude Coordinates

Choose a destination based onlatitudinal and longitudinalcoordinates.

To enter the location as coordinates,latitude and longitude:

1. Press Destination on the HomePage screen button. Press theLatitude and Longitude screenbutton to display the screenabove.

2. Enter the Latitude and Longitudecoordinates for the destination indegrees, minutes, and seconds.

3. Press the Done screen button ifthe information is correct.

4. Press the Start Guidance screenbutton. The route calculates.



Favorite Routes

Adding a Favorite Route:

1. Press the Destination on theHome Page or the DESTfaceplate button to display theFavorite Routes screen button.

2. Press the Favorite Routesscreen to display Add FavoriteRoute.

3. Select Add Favorite Route andenter a favorite route name.

4. Press OK and the displayreturns to the favorite routes list.

5. Select the favorite route and adda waypoint using any of thedestination methods, such asaddress entry, POI entry, etc.

Selecting a Favorite Route:

1. Press Destination on the HomePage or the DEST faceplatebutton to display the FavoriteRoutes screen button.

2. Press the Favorite Routesscreen button to display a list ofavailable favorite routes.

3. Scroll and select a favorite route.

4. Press the Start Guidance screenbutton. The route calculates.

To delete a favorite route:

1. Press Destination on the HomePage or the DEST button on thefaceplate to display the FavoriteRoutes screen button. Press thisbutton to display the list ofavailable favorite routes.

2. Scroll and select the route to bedeleted.

3. Press Edit.

4. Press Delete Favorite Route.

To change the route name:

1. Press Destination on the HomePage or the DEST button on thefaceplate to display the FavoriteRoutes screen button. Press thisbutton to display the list ofavailable favorite routes.

2. Press the Edit screen button.

3. Select Edit Name.

4. Using the keypad, enterthe name.

5. Press the Done screen button.The new name will be in theFavorite Route Menu.



My Home

If no home destination is entered,save a destination by pressingDestination on the Home Page orthe DEST button on the faceplate.Enter a destination using any of thedestination entry methods (AddressEntry, POI Entry, etc.). Select Saveas Home from the DestinationConfirmation screen.

If a destination is already saved ashome, press Destination on theHome Page or the DEST button onthe faceplate to display the MyHome screen button. Press thisbutton to display the DestinationConfirmation screen.

Pick from Map

. Press Destination on the HomePage or the DEST button on thefaceplate to display the Pickfrom Map screen button. Pressthis button to display the mapscreen with a scroll symbolcentered on the map.

. Press the Zoom in/out button onthe screen and press the map tolocate the destination to select.Press and hold a finger on themap to activate fast scrolling.

. Press the Go button on thebottom of the screen to displaythe Destination Confirmationscreen.

. Press the Start Guidance screenbutton. The route calculates.

Destination Confirmation

Multiple options are available on theDestination Confirmation screen.These are:

Start Guidance: Press to start aroute calculation to the displayeddestination.

Show on Map: Press to switch tothe map view with the displayeddestination centered on the map.

Route Options: Press to modifyyour route options. See “NavigationSettings” for more information.



Call: Press to initiate a phone callto the displayed phone number(if phone capability is available).

Save as Home: Press to save thedisplayed destination as your homedestination. The home destinationwill be stored at the top of the list ofdestinations in the address book.

Save/Edit: Press to save thedisplayed destination into theaddress book. If the displayeddestination is already stored in theaddress book, Edit will show as themenu item.

Destination Menu with RouteGuidance Active

Several functions can be performedafter a destination has beenentered. Press Destination on theHome Page or the DEST on thefaceplate to access the DestinationMenu screen.

Cancel Guidance

Press Cancel Guidance to cancelthe current route.

Waypoint List

Select Waypoint List to view optionsfor organizing waypoints.



Turn List

Select Turn List to view a list ofmaneuvers for the entire route.Press the Avoid screen buttonlocated next to one of the turnmaneuvers to avoid a segment ofroads. A maximum of eight avoidedsegments are allowed.

Voice Prompt

Press to change the voice promptfeatures. See “Navigation SettingsButton” later in this section.

Avoid List

Select Avoid List to display a list ofavoided road segments with theoption to remove the avoided itemsfrom the list.

Detour

Press Detour to display the routedetour options. Select to detour thewhole route or by a specificdistance.

Route Options

This feature can be accessed fromthe Destination Confirmation Menu,Navigation Settings Menu, andDestination Menu with RouteGuidance Active. See “NavigationSettings Button” for moreinformation.

Waypoints

Up to three waypoints can be addedto the current route. The waypointscan be sorted (moved) or deleted.



To add a waypoint:

1. From the Waypoint List menu,press Add Waypoint.

2. Enter the waypoint by any ofthe add destination methods.The system calculates andhighlights the route and theroute can be started.

3. To add more waypoints, pressAdd Waypoint to add thewaypoint in the order desiredon the route.

To delete a waypoint:

1. From the Destination menu,press Waypoint List.

2. Press Delete Waypoints.

3. Select the waypoint to bedeleted. Press the Deletescreen button.

The Sort Waypoints feature allowsreorganization of the waypoint list.

To sort a waypoint:

1. From the Destination menu,press Waypoint List.

2. Press Sort Waypoints.

3. Select the waypoint to move.

4. Select the location to move thewaypoint to.

Instead of deleting individualwaypoints, select Delete AllWaypoints to delete all waypoints atthe same time.

To save a waypoint list as a favoriteroute, select Save as Favorite.



OnStar® DestinationDownloadThe destination download lets anOnStar® subscriber ask an OnStarAdvisor to download a destination tothe navigation system. OnStar willsend address information andlocation coordinates of thedestination into the navigationsystem.

Using Destination Download

If the navigation radio screen isturned off before a download, thesystem automatically turns thescreen on and displays a downloadconfirmation message. The radioremains on after the download.

The navigation system displays“Please wait” as the address issearched within the map database.

If the address is not found within themap database, the system may uselatitude and longitude coordinates tolocate the destination.

If the system is unable to locate theaddress, the Destination Not Foundscreen displays.

Route Guidance Not Active

If an OnStar destination isdownloaded while route guidance isnot active, the navigation systemdisplays a pop-up screen with thefollowing screen functions:

Start Guidance: Press to startroute calculation to thedestination(s) received.

Show on Map: Press to display theMap Screen.

Route Options: Press to displaythe various route optionpreferences. See “Route Options”later in this section.

Call: Press to initiate a call withBluetooth Phone (if available) orOnStar Personal Calling.

Save as Home: Press to set anaddress as a home destination.

Save: Press to save thedownloaded destination to theaddress book.



Route Guidance Active

If an OnStar destination isdownloaded while route guidance isalready active, the system displaysa pop-up screen with the followingscreen function:. Press Start Guidance; the

navigation system adds thedownloaded destination beforethe next waypoint of the existingroute (closest to the currentvehicle position).

. All other buttons on the pop-upscreen operate as describedunder “Route Guidance NotActive.”

Previous Destinations

Previously downloaded OnStardestinations are saved underPrevious Destinations in thenavigation system, where theycan be accessed or saved to theAddress Book.

Configure MenuThe Configuration Menu is used toadjust features and preferences,such as Sound, Radio, Nav(Navigation), Display, or ClockSettings.

1. Press the Config screen buttonon the Home Page or theCONFIG button on the faceplate.

2. Touch-tap the scroll bar until thedesired option displays. Selectthe desired settings to change.



Languages

Press the Config button on theHome Page or the CONFIG buttonon the faceplate to enter the menuoptions. Turn the MENU/SEL knobor touch-tap the scroll bar to scrollthrough the available options.Press the MENU/SEL knob orpress Languages to display thelanguages. Select the desiredlanguage.

Time and Date Settings

From the Time & Date Settingsscreen button, press to displaythe Time & Date Settings menu.Press the desired option to adjust.

Set Time: Press the up or downarrows to increase or decrease theHours and Minutes displayed onthe clock.

Set Date: Press the up or downarrows to increase or decreasethe day.

Set Time Format: Press the12 Hours screen button for standardtime; press the 24 Hours screenbutton for military time.

Set Date Format: Depending onthe region, the following dateformats may be available: MM/DD/YYYY, DD.MM.YYYY, or YYYY/MM/DD.

Display Digital Clock: PressDisplay to turn the display of theclock on the screen On or Off.



Radio Settings

Press the Configuration button onthe Home Page or the CONFIGbutton on the faceplate to enter themenu options. Turn the MENU/SELknob or touch-tap the scroll bar toscroll through the available options.Press the MENU/SEL knob or pressRadio Settings to display the RadioSettings menu. Press this feature tomake changes to radio informationdisplayed, preset pages, AutoVolume Control, and XM CategoriesRestore. See Satellite Radio onpage 20 (if equipped), for moreinformation about XM Categories.

The Radio Settings are:

Speed Dependent Volume:Select OFF, Low, Medium, or Highsensitivity to automatically adjustthe volume to minimize the effectsof unwanted background noise thatcan result from changing roadsurfaces, driving speeds, or openwindows. This feature works best atlower volume settings wherebackground noise is typically louderthan the sound system volume.

Startup Volume: Press to set themaximum volume level for startupthat will be used even if a highervolume had been set when the radiowas turned off.

. Yellow indicates slightly impairedtraffic flow with average speedbetween 40 km and 73 km(25 and 45 mph).

. Green indicates normal trafficflow with average speed above73 km (45 mph).

Closed Road, Traffic Delays,Roadworks, and Advisories

Select the traffic event group fordisplay on the map screen. Someevents may cover more than onetraffic condition. See the followingtraffic conditions.

There are two options:

Automatic Recalculation — Ifenabled and a route with fewertraffic delays is found, the systemwill automatically recalculate withoutuser confirmation.

Calculate After Confirmation — Ifenabled, the system will provide apop-up if a possible guidance routeis available to detour around trafficevents on the route. Select Yes fromthe pop-up and the new route will becalculated. XM™ NavTrafficinformation might not be providedfor the alternate route, depending onwhat type of road the vehicle istraveling.

Avoid Freeways: Press to avoidmajor roads. A checkmark appearsto indicate the Avoid mode is on.

Avoid Toll Roads: Press to avoidtoll roads. A checkmark appears toindicate the Avoid mode is on.

Avoid Ferries: Press to avoidferries. A checkmark appears toindicate the Avoid mode is on.

Avoid Tunnels: Press to avoidtunnels. A checkmark appears toindicate the Avoid mode is on.



Delete Saved Destinations

Press to delete all saveddestinations. A Delete SavedDestinations submenu displays.Select the desired options fordeletion.

Guidance Alert

Press to enable the guidance alertpop-up to be viewed on the map oron the main screens such as audio,weather, phone, etc. A checkmarkappears to indicate the guidancealert mode is on.

Display Settings

Dimming Mode: Press to changethe screen background.. The Automatic setting adjusts

the screen backgroundautomatically depending on theexterior lighting conditions.

. The Day setting brightens themap background.

To change the overall brightnesssetting for the display, use thevehicle interior lighting instrumentpanel illumination control.

XM NavTraffic™ (If Equipped)

The navigation system might havean XM NavTraffic receiver. It is asubscription service providedthrough XM Satellite Radio.A service fee is required to receivethe XM NavTraffic service.Real-time traffic information isprovided to fully integrate thenavigation system to display currenttraffic conditions for the chosenroute. See “Traffic Settings” in thissection for more information.

A screen displays if the XMNavTraffic subscription is notactivated.

If activated, traffic informationdisplays:. Unscheduled traffic incident

data, such as accidents anddisabled vehicles.

. Scheduled traffic incident data,such as road construction androad closures.

. Traffic flow information (rate ofspeed data). Flow data might notbe available in all markets.

Traffic information is delivered to thevehicle by the XM Radio satellites.XM NavTraffic provides continuouslyupdated traffic information.

XM NavTraffic currently broadcaststhe traffic information for manymarkets nationally. The service maybe available in more cities in thefuture. Visit www.xmnavtraffic.comfor more details on local coverage.



To access the traffic features, pressthe XM Traffic button on the HomePage or map screen.

All Traffic Events: Press to view alist of reported traffic conditions forup to approximately 160 km(100 mi). It could take some time todisplay the information received.

The information is displayed with anarrow and distance. The arrowindicates the distance in a straightline and the direction of the eventfrom the vehicle's current position.

Traffic Events on Route: Press todisplay a list of reported trafficconditions on the current route.The button is toned down if no routeis active.

Traffic Settings: Press tocustomize traffic options.

XM™ Weather (If Equipped)

From the Home Page, press theXM Weather screen button.The system displays the currentweather page.

Current Condition

The current weather page showsthe current weather condition in thecity of the vehicle's current position.

On this page, select the Menuscreen button to access otherweather options, such as ExtendedForecast, Weather Along the Route,Weather Around Other Cities, andWeather Alerts.

Allow approximately 15 minutes forthe current weather in the area todisplay.



Extended Forecast

Press to show the extendedforecast.

Weather Along the Route

If a destination is set, there is theoption to view weather conditionsfor up to three locations along theroute:. Current vehicle position.. Midway point from current

position to final destination.. Current weather condition of the

destination city.

Weather Alerts

From the XM Weather Menu, pressthe Weather Alerts screen button todisplay any current weatheradvisory warnings in effect near thecurrent position.

Weather Around Other Cities

Select this option to view weatherconditions around or in a specificcity entered by name or selectedfrom the map.

Restore to Current Location

Press the Restore Current Locationscreen button to display the weathercondition for the city where thevehicle is currently located, if thesystem was modified to viewweather conditions in another city.



Photo Viewer

The Photo Viewer can only be usedwith USB devices. If the pictures areon an SD card, the pictures canonly be viewed by placing themon a USB stick or by using aUSB-SD adapter. File sizes aboveapproximately six mega pixels maynot show. Only jpeg files aresupported.

1. Press the Viewer screen buttonon the Home Page.

2. The system does a search tofind the picture folders.A “Please wait” messagedisplays until the search isfinished.

3. A list displays. Select a pictureto view.

4. Once a picture displays, thefollowing options are available:

Info: Press to turn file nameinformation on or off.

S : Press to display a previouspicture if not in slide show mode.

r : Press to toggle between slideshow mode and manual mode.



T : Press to display a next pictureif not in slide show mode.

E : Press to manually rotate apicture 90 degreescounterclockwise.

Settings: Press to open the PhotoViewer settings screen. Slide ShowTimer, Shuffle Image Settings, andAutomatic Rotation Settings cannow be configured.

If the displayed picture screen is notused within six seconds, the upperand lower bar options will disappear.Touch-tap the screen to re-displaythe upper and lower bar.

Global PositioningSystem (GPS)The position of the vehicle isdetermined by using satellitesignals, various vehicle signals, andmap data.

At times, other interference such asthe satellite condition, roadconfiguration, condition of thevehicle, and/or other circumstancescan interfere with the navigationsystem's ability to determine theaccurate position of the vehicle.

The GPS shows the current positionof the vehicle using signals sent bythe GPS Satellites of the UnitedStates Department of Defense.When the vehicle is not receivingsignals from the satellites, a symbolappears on the map screen. SeeNavigation Symbols on page 35.

This system might not be availableor interference can occur if any ofthe following are true:. Signals are obstructed by tall

buildings, trees, large trucks,or a tunnel.

. Satellites are being repaired orimproved.

For more information if the GPSis not functioning properly, seeProblems with Route Guidance onpage 62 and If the System NeedsService on page 63.



Vehicle PositioningAt times, the position of the vehicleon the map could be inaccuratedue to one or more of the followingreasons:. The road system has changed.. The vehicle is driving on slippery

road surfaces such as sand,gravel, or snow.

. The vehicle is traveling onwinding roads or long straightroads.

. The vehicle is approaching a tallbuilding or a large vehicle.

. The surface streets run parallelto a freeway.

. The vehicle has been transferredby a vehicle carrier or a ferry.

. The current position calibrationis set incorrectly.

. The vehicle is traveling at highspeed.

. The vehicle changes directionsmore than once, or the vehicleis turning on a turn table in aparking lot.

. The vehicle is entering and/orexiting a parking lot, garage, or alot with a roof.

. The GPS signal is not received.

. A roof carrier is installed on thevehicle.

. Tire chains have been installed.

. The tires are replaced or worn.

. The tire pressure for the tires isincorrect.

. This is the first navigation useafter the map data is updated.

. The 12-volt battery isdisconnected for several days.

. The vehicle is driving in heavytraffic where driving is at lowspeeds, and the vehicle isstopped and started repeatedly.

Problems with RouteGuidanceInappropriate route guidance canoccur under one or more of thefollowing conditions:. The turn was not made on the

road indicated.. Route guidance might not be

available when using automaticrerouting for the next right orleft turn.

. The route might not be changedwhen using automatic rerouting.

. There is no route guidance whenturning at an intersection.

. Plural names of places might beannounced occasionally.

. It could take a long time tooperate automatic reroutingduring high-speed driving.



. Automatic rerouting mightdisplay a route returning to theset waypoint if heading for adestination without passingthrough a set waypoint.

. The route prohibits the entry of avehicle due to a regulation bytime or season or any otherregulation which may be given.

. Some routes might not besearched.

. The route to the destinationmight not be shown if there arenew roads, if roads haverecently changed, or if certainroads are not listed in the mapdata. See Maps on page 34 formore information.

To recalibrate the vehicle's positionon the map, park with the vehiclerunning for two to five minutes, untilthe vehicle position updates.

If the System NeedsServiceIf the navigation system needsservice and the steps listed herehave been followed but there arestill problems, see your dealer forassistance.

Map Data UpdatesThe map data in the vehicle is themost up-to-date informationavailable when the vehicle wasproduced. The map data is updatedperiodically, provided that the mapinformation has changed.

Database CoverageExplanationsCoverage areas vary with respect tothe level of map detail available forany given area. Some areas featuregreater levels of detail than others.If this happens, it does not meanthere is a problem with the system.As the map data is updated, moredetail can become available forareas which previously had limiteddetail. See Map Data Updates onpage 63 for more information.

Voice RecognitionThe navigation system is notequipped with voice recognition.Vehicles equipped with OnStar mayhave limited voice recognition forfeatures such as Hands-FreeCalling.

See Bluetooth on page 65 for moreinformation.

Voice recognition can be used whenthe vehicle is on or when RetainedAccessory Power (RAP) is active.See “Retained Accessory Power(RAP)” in the vehicle owner manualfor more information.

Using Voice Recognition

1. Press and hold the b / gsteering wheel button for lessthan two seconds. The audiosystem mutes and a beep isheard. A voice prompt stating,“Ready” might be heard.

While voice recognition is active,the system displays a g symbol.

2. Clearly speak one of thecommands listed under UsingVoice Recognition on page 66.

Canceling Voice Recognition

1. Press and release the8 /isteering wheel button to cancela command.

2. The system replies, “Goodbye.”

3. Press and release the b / gsteering wheel button to restartthe voice recognition session.



Phone

BluetoothFor vehicles equipped withBluetooth capability, the system caninteract with many cell phones,allowing:. Placement and receipt of calls in

a hands-free mode.. Sharing of the cell phone’s

address book or contact list withthe vehicle.

To minimize driver distraction,before driving, and with the vehicleparked:. Become familiar with the

features of the cell phone.Organize the phone book andcontact lists clearly and deleteduplicate or rarely used entries.If possible, program speed dialor other shortcuts.

. Review the controls andoperation of the infotainmentand navigation system.

. Pair cell phone(s) to the vehicle.The system may not work withall cell phones. See Using VoiceRecognition on page 66 andPairing a Phone Using theInfotainment System on page 72for more information.

. If the cell phone has voicedialing capability, learn to usethat feature to access theaddress book or contact list. SeeUsing Voice Recognition onpage 66 for more information.

{ WARNING

When using a cell phone, it canbe distracting to look too long ortoo often at the screen of thephone or the infotainment(navigation) system. Taking youreyes off the road too long ortoo often could cause a crashresulting in injury or death.Focus your attention on driving.

Infotainment Controls

If equipped, the infotainment systemallows certain controls to beselected on the infotainment display.



Using Voice RecognitionTo use voice recognition,press b / g on the steering wheel.

If you know the command youwould like to execute, say thecommand. If the command is notknown, say “Help” while in anyvoice recognition menu.

Pairing a Phone

1. Press b / g.2. Say “Bluetooth.”

3. Say “Pair.” The systemresponds with instructionsand a four‐digit PersonalIdentification Number (PIN).The PIN is used in Step 5.

4. Start the pairing process on thecell phone that you want to pair.For help with this process, seeyour cell phone manufacturer'suser guide.

5. Locate the device named “YourVehicle” in the list on the cellphone. Follow the instructionson the cell phone to enter thePIN provided in Step 3. After thePIN is successfully entered, thesystem prompts you to provide aname for the paired cell phone.This name will be used toindicate which phones arepaired and connected to thevehicle. See “Listing All Pairedand Connected Phones” later inthis section for more information.

6. Repeat Steps 1 through 5 to pairadditional phones.

Listing All Paired and ConnectedPhones

The system can list all cell phonespaired to it. If a paired cell phone isalso connected to the vehicle, thesystem responds with “is connected”after that phone name.


3. Say “List.”

Deleting a Paired Phone

If the phone name you want todelete is unknown, see “Listing AllPaired and Connected Phones.”


3. Say “Delete.” The system asksfor which phone to delete.

4. Say the name of the phone youwant to delete.



Connecting to a Different Phone

To connect to a different cell phone,the Bluetooth system looks for thenext available cell phone in theorder in which all available cellphones were paired. Depending onwhich cell phone you want toconnect to, you may have to usethis command several times.


3. Say “Change phone.”. If another cell phone is

found, the response will be“<Phone name> is nowconnected.”

. If another cell phone is notfound, the original phoneremains connected.

Storing and Deleting PhoneNumbers

The system can store up to30 phone numbers as name tags inthe Hands-Free Directory that isshared between the Bluetooth andOnStar systems.

The following commands are usedto delete and store phone numbers.

Store: This command will storea phone number, or a group ofnumbers as a name tag.

Digit Store: This command allowsa phone number to be stored as aname tag by entering the digits oneat a time.

Delete: This command is used todelete individual name tags.

Delete All Name Tags: Thiscommand deletes all stored nametags in the Hands-Free CallingDirectory and the OnStarTurn-by-Turn Destinations Directory.

Using the “Store” Command

1. Press b / g.2. Say “Store.”

3. Say the phone number or groupof numbers to store all at oncewith no pauses, then follow thedirections given by the system tosave a name tag for this number.



Using the “Digit Store” Command

If an unwanted number isrecognized by the system, say“Clear” at any time to clear the lastnumber.

To hear all of the numbersrecognized by the system, say“Verify” at any time.

1. Press b / g.2. Say “Digit Store.”

3. One at a time, say each numberto store. After each number isentered, the system repeatsback the number it heardfollowed by a tone. After the lastnumber has been entered, say“Store,” and then follow thedirections given by the system tosave a name tag for this number.

Using the “Delete” Command

1. Press b / g.2. Say “Delete.”

3. Say the name tag you want todelete.

Using the “Delete All Name Tags”Command

This command deletes all storedname tags in the Hands-FreeCalling Directory and the OnStarTurn-by-Turn Destinations Directory.

To delete all name tags:

1. Press b / g.2. Say “Delete all name tags.”

Listing Stored Numbers

The list command will list all storednumbers and name tags.

Using the “List” Command

1. Press b / g.2. Say “Directory.”

3. Say “Hands-Free Calling.”

4. Say “List.”

Making a Call

Calls can be made using thefollowing commands:

Dial or Call: The dial or callcommand can be usedinterchangeably to dial a phonenumber or a stored name tag.

Digit Dial: This command allows aphone number to be dialed byentering the digits one at a time.

Re‐dial: This command is used todial the last number used on thecell phone.



Using the “Dial” or “Call”Command

1. Press b / g.2. Say “Dial” or “Call.”

3. Say the entire number withoutpausing or say the name tag.

Once connected, the person calledwill be heard through the audiospeakers.

Using the “Digit Dial” Command

The digit dial command allows aphone number to be dialed byentering the numbers, one digit at atime. After each number is entered,the system repeats back the numberit heard followed by a tone.

If an unwanted number isrecognized by the system, say“Clear” at any time to clear the lastnumber.

To hear all of the numbersrecognized by the system, say“Verify” at any time.

1. Press b / g.2. Say “Digit Dial.”

3. Say each digit, one at a time,that you want to dial. After eachdigit is entered, the systemrepeats back the digit it heardfollowed by a tone. After thelast digit has been entered,say “Dial.”


Using the “Re‐dial” Command

1. Press b / g.2. After the tone, say “Re‐dial.”


Receiving a Call

When an incoming call is received,the audio system mutes and a ringtone is heard in the vehicle.

. Press b / g to answer the call.

. Press8 /i to ignore the call.

Call Waiting

Call waiting must be supported onthe cell phone and enabled by thewireless service carrier.

. Press b / g to answer anincoming call when another callis active. The original call isplaced on hold.

. Press b / g again to return tothe original call.

. To ignore the incoming call, noaction is required.

. Press8 /i to disconnect thecurrent call and switch to the callon hold.



Three‐Way Calling

Three‐way calling must besupported on the cell phone andenabled by the wireless servicecarrier.

1. While on a call, press b / g.2. Say “Three‐way call.”

3. Use the dial or call command todial the number of the third partyto be called.

4. Once the call is connected,press b / g to link all callerstogether.

Ending a Call

Press8 /i to end a call.

Muting a Call

During a call, all sounds from insidethe vehicle can be muted so that theperson on the other end of the callcannot hear them.

To mute a call, press b / g, andthen say “Mute Call.”

To cancel mute, press b / g, andthen say “Un‐mute Call.”

Transferring a Call

Audio can be transferred betweenthe Bluetooth system and the cellphone.

The cell phone must be paired andconnected with the Bluetoothsystem before a call can betransferred. The connection processcan take up to two minutes after thevehicle is started.

To Transfer Audio from theBluetooth System to a Cell Phone

During a call with the audio in thevehicle:

1. Press b / g.2. Say “Transfer Call.”

To Transfer Audio to the BluetoothSystem from a Cell Phone

During a call with the audio on thecell phone, press b / g. The audiotransfers to the vehicle. If the audiodoes not transfer to the vehicle,use the audio transfer feature on thecell phone. See your cell phonemanufacturer's user guide for moreinformation.



Voice Pass-Thru

Voice pass‐thru allows access to thevoice recognition commands on thecell phone. See your cell phonemanufacturer's user guide to see ifthe cell phone supports this feature.

To access contacts stored in thecell phone:

1. Press b / g.2. Say “Bluetooth.” The system

responds “Bluetooth ready,”followed by a tone.

3. Say “Voice.” The systemresponds “OK, accessing<phone name>.”

The cell phone's normal promptmessages will go through theircycle according to the phone'soperating instructions.

Dual Tone Multi-Frequency(DTMF) Tones

The Bluetooth system can sendnumbers and numbers stored asname tags during a call. Use thisfeature when calling a menu-drivenphone system. Account numberscan also be stored for use.

Sending a Number or Name TagDuring a Call

1. Press b / g. The systemresponds “Ready,” followed bya tone.

2. Say “Dial.”

3. Say the number or name tagto send.

Clearing the System

Unless information is deleted outof the in‐vehicle Bluetooth system,it will be retained indefinitely.This includes all saved name tagsin the phone book and phonepairing information. For informationon how to delete this information,see the previous sections on“Deleting a Paired Phone” and“Storing and Deleting PhoneNumbers.”



Pairing a Phone Usingthe Infotainment SystemThe pairing process can be startedby using the controls on theinfotainment system.

1. Press the Phone screen buttonon the Home Page or 5 / 0 onthe faceplate to display thePhone screen.

2. Press the 4 screen button todisplay more options.

3. Select the Pair Device (Phone)screen button. The pairingprocess will begin searching forBluetooth devices on the cellphone. See the cell phonemanufacturer's user guide forinformation on this process.

On the cell phone, locate thedevice named “General Motors”or “Your Vehicle.” Follow theinstructions given on the cellphone, or follow the voiceprompts to enter the four-digitPersonal Identification Number(PIN) that has been provided.



4. The system voice promptrequests a name for the phonebeing paired. Use a name thatbest describes the phone.The system voice prompt thenrepeats the name you providedfor confirmation; say “Yes.”

5. The system responds with“phone name has beensuccessfully paired” after thepairing process is complete.

Listing All Paired and ConnectedPhones



3. Turn the MENU/SEL knob untilDevice List displays. Press theMENU/SEL knob or press theDevice List screen button todisplay other options.



A list of all previously paired phoneswill be displayed. If there is acurrently connected phone, it will bemarked on the screen.

Deleting a Paired Phone

1. Press the Phone screen buttonon the Home Page or faceplateto display the Phone screen.





4. Turn the MENU/SEL knob, thenpress it to select the phone to bedeleted. Follow the on-screenprompts to delete the devicefrom the system.

5. Once a phone has been deleted,the only way to connect back tothat phone is to pair the phoneagain.

Linking to a Different Phone

To link to a different phone, the newphone must be in the vehicle andavailable to be connected to theBluetooth system before theprocess is started.






4. Select the phone to be linkedand then follow the on-screenprompts.

5. The Phone screen will bedisplayed with the name of thephone linked.



Making a Call


2. Press the Menu button on thescreen to access thePhone Menu.

Enter Number

Use this option to enter a phonenumber and make a call.

1. Turn the MENU/SEL knob, thenpress it to select Enter Number.A dial pad displays.

2. Enter the phone number bypressing the numbers on thekeypad.

3. Press the Dial screen button tomake the call.



Phone Book

The Phone Book feature is onlysupported if that feature is availableon the Bluetooth phone. See yourcell phone manufacturer's userguide for more information.

The phone book can be accessedby pressing the Phone Bookselection on the Dial Numberscreen.

1. Turn the MENU/SEL knob toselect the letter groupassociated with the person orplace to call.

2. Press the MENU/SEL knob toselect the letter group.

3. Select the person or placeto call.

4. Press the MENU/SEL knob ornumber on the screen to makethe call.

Call Lists

The Call List selection from thePhone Menu screen can be used toshow a list of incoming calls,outgoing calls, and missed calls.




2. Press the Menu screen button.

3. Select the Call Lists screenbutton.

4. Turn the MENU/SEL knob,or press to select eitherIncoming Calls, Outgoing Calls,or Missed Calls.



Once one of these options has beenselected, a menu displays. A list ofpersons and places will display forthe selected option.

Turn the MENU/SEL knob, thenpress this knob or press theappropriate screen button to selectsomeone on that list. A menudisplays showing the phone numberfor that person.

Accepting or Declining anIncoming Call

When an incoming call is received,the audio is muted and a ring tonesounds.

Accepting a Call

Press the Answer option on thescreen to answer the call.

Declining a Call

Select the Decline option on thescreen.

Call Waiting

Call waiting must be supported onthe Bluetooth phone and enabled bythe wireless service carrier to work.

Switching Calls (Only Availablewith Call Waiting)

This feature allows switchingbetween calls, making one callactive and placing the otheron hold.

1. Press the Phone Menu buttonon the screen to access thePhone Menu.



2. Turn or press the MENU/SELknob to Switch Calls and pressEnter or press the Switch Callsoption.

Conference Calling

Conference and three-way callingmust be supported on the Bluetoothphone and enabled by the wirelessservice carrier to work.

To start a conference while in acurrent call:

1. Press the Phone screen buttonon the Home Page or 5 / 0 onthe faceplate until the Phonemain screen is shown with thecurrent active call.

2. Press the Menu button.

3. Press Enter Number on thescreen.

4. Make another call. The first callwill be placed on hold while thesecond call is dialing andconnected.

5. To make a conference call,select the Merge Calls screenbutton in the Phone Menu andboth calls merge into oneconference call.

6. To add more callers to theconference call, repeat Steps 3through 5. The number of callersthat can be added is limited byyour wireless service carrier.



Ending a Call

To end a call:


2. Press the Phone screen buttonto access the Phone Menu.

3. Press the Hang Up screenbutton to end the call.

Mute or UnMute a Call


2. Press the Phone screen buttonto access the Phone Menu.

3. Press the Mute Call screenbutton.

4. Press Mute Call again to unmutethe call.

Dual Tone Multi-Frequency(DTMF) Tones

The in-vehicle Bluetooth system cansend numbers during a call. This isused when calling a menu-drivenphone system.


2. Press the Phone screen buttonto access the Menu.

3. Turn the MENU/SEL knob, thenpress this knob or press theEnter Number option and enterthe number sequence.

The DTMF Tones will be generatedon the network as you enter eachnumber.
