Data collected from heavily urbanised areas during the Aussie Backyard Bird Count suggests we are seeing a decline in this iconic species in the eastern capitals. Likely reasons for this are the loss of nesting hollows and possibly reductions in the availability of prey as we increasingly modify our urban landscapes. BirdLife Australia's Aussie Backyard Bird Count and Birdata programs show a
possible decline in Laughing Kookaburras.
Data collected from heavily urbanised areas during the Aussie Backyard Bird
Count suggests we are seeing a decline in this iconic species in the eastern
capitals. Likely reasons for this are the loss of nesting hollows and possibly
reductions in the availability of prey as we increasingly modify our urban
landscapes.
We appreciate everyone taking time out of their busy lives to submit counts to
the #AussieBirdCount. Thanks to citizen scientists like you BirdLife Australia is
able to track large-scale biodiversity trends like these. By Postcode 2108: Palm Beach, Coasters Retreat, Great Mackeral Beach and Whale Beach, N.S.W. Checklists submitted 13 Species sighted 34 Birds sighted 341
