TECHNOLOGICAL UPGRADATION -FEEDBACK REPORT CHCDS - VMHC 3 VIRUDHUNAGAR MEGA HANDLOOM CLUSTER The Virudhunagar Mega Handloom Cluster scheme, as announced in the Budget for 2009-10, is sanctioned under the Comprehensive Handloom Cluster Development Scheme which aims to upgrade the handlooms and create Infrastructural, Production and Marketing facilities. The project objective of the Virudhunagar Mega Handloom Cluster (VMHC) in the State of Tamilnadu is to empower handlooms and build their capacity to enhance competitiveness of their products in the domestic as well as global market in a sustainable and reliant manner, by improving the productivity through technology up-gradation in pre-loom /on-loom /post-loom operations, creation of infra structure facilities like Common Facility Centers, Modern Dye House, Marketing & Development Centers, weaving sheds for weavers, skill up-gradation, design inputs etc. which would eventually be able to raise the living standards of thousands of weavers engaged in the handloom industry in the District of Virudhunagar and its sub-clusters in the adjoining Districts, by way of an integrated approach with the use of Comprehensive Handloom Cluster Development Scheme of the Government of India. The scheme has been sanctioned, at a total financial out lay of Rs.87.68 crores with GOI assistance of Rs.70.00 Crores as grant-in-aid and the balance amount has to be shared by the State Government and the beneficiaries.
