6Wherever you are in life there is always a next step. Whether it is further educa-tion, an internship, creating your own business or something completely dif-ferent, something new is always lurking at the horizon. For companies the next steps differ as well. Some companies are expanding to new markets, strengthen-ing their core offering or adapting to new environmental laws. In any case an adap-tion to an ever changing world is neces-sary.

As students at Chalmers you are all bom-barded with new information and pos-sible career paths almost every day. But how do you know what is right for you? Short answer: You dont. The long an-swer is much, much longer and complex and cannot be answered by anyone else but you.

Even though you need to choose your own path there is always assistance to be found. At CHARM some paths reveal themselves and become more tangible as long as you reach out for them. Even though you might not know what your goal is, after CHARM hopefully you at least gain a direction.

This is the premise for the theme of CHARM 2014, Next Step, because every-one has a next step. By introducing you and your fellow students to a world of career paths I hope that at least a spark is ignited in all of you, however small RULQVLJQLFDQWLWPLJKWIHHOLQWKHGDUNmonths of Swedish winter. But come spring and natures own next step and hopefully you will also know yours.

By these words the CHARMcommittee welcomes you all to CHARM.

Next step is the theme for CHARM 2014. One of the most obvious connections to the concept Next Step is the future - not an unusual issue for todays students. While studying at Chalmers you will talk about this in many different ways. Pri-marily your education prepares you for the future. Not only will you get know-ledge and abilities important for you as a person, the education will also provide you with skills crucial to make a difference in the world for a sustainable fu-ture. In addition, questions about your own future career in the private, public and academic sector are frequently dis-cussed both in seminars with companies and among fellow students.

At CHARM you have an opportunity to start your steps towards the future by acting in the moment. Having an idea about the direction of your next step is a good starting point for future success. CHARM is the perfect opportunity to ex-plore the options you have for your fu-WXUHHQKDQFLQJWKHFKDQFHVWRIXOOOLQJyour own dreams and wishes.

With your coming Chalmers degree you are already one step ahead of many other students but dont forget the impor-tance of your individual choice on what to do and in what context to do this. Take a break in your studies before CHARM and think about possible directions of your next step.
