Something is keenif it is sharp.

This knife has a keen edge;it is very sharp and can cut anything!

The rat has a keen nose.It can smell many things!

A person is humble if he is modest and does not say he is

wonderful, even if he is.

A place is humbleif it is small and plain.

Wilbur was humble, even though Charlotte praised him—she said

very nice things about him.

This is a very humble hut, in Africa.

To languish is to become weak, to lose strength.

The poor cat, without a home, languished on the ground.

Carousing means drinking, sitting around, and having fun.

The sea captains were carousing at the tavern all night long.

To gorge is to eat until you feel stuffed (very full).

But a gorge is a small canyon.

The man gorged on hot dogs.

Tallulah Gorge is a pretty place in the state of Georgia.

You have a hankering for something if you want it, and

you can’t stop wanting it.

The boy had a hankering for a new Hot Wheels toy.

Templeton, the rat, had a hankering for all the food at the fair.

When water, or some other liquid, trickles,

that means only a little comes out, in little drops.

The dogs stood under the little, trickling waterfall.

If a person is pompous, he tries to show others how very

important he is.

The Senator was very pompous as he gave a speech.

A phenomenon is anything that you can perceive (see,

hear), but it especially means weird or unusual things, which

are hard to understand.

Such big muscles is a phenomenon. How did he get them?

Something is nifty if it is very good, especially if it looks

good.

Some kid got a nifty new bicycle!
