THE TROJAN EV CHARGING SYSTEM FOR CHARGE POINT OPERATORS

Page 2: Charging towards net-Zero - Trojan Energy

43% of UK drivers park their cars alongside a pavement outside their homes. Several studies have shown that the preference of EV drivers is to charge their vehicle at home. However, councils supported by government don’t want to fill pavements with street clutter such as charging posts. Trojan Energy is specifically targeting this market and providing a route for them to join the EV revolution.

Are you installing charge points at the most convenient place for your customer?

The Trojan EV Charging system

THE TROJAN CONNECTOR

• Installed flush near the edge of the pavement• LED lighting for status indication• Highly vandal/crash resistant• Enabled by lance • Not energised until connection established

with the car

• Stored in car• Easily unlocked by user• Linked to personal account• Type 2 Mode 3 AC connection• 3 phase 22kW capable• Lightweight, portable and robust

THE Trojan Lance

THE Trojan Cabinet

• Connected to 3 phase supply• 1 cabinet for 15 charge points • Connected to cloud services• Safety functions • Public lances• Smart charging enabled• Foundation for city wide EV to grid system

Software advantage

Cloud Arbitrated Charging

We have built the world’s first Cloud based EV charging system. This allows user preferences entered from apps on Smartphones, or customers accessing their account on the internet, to be monitored real-time. This enables optimal distribution of electrical power to connected vehicles subject to constraints of the local DNO tie-in. For example users can opt to be fully charged by 6am as cheaply as possible, or charged as fast as possible at a higher tariff whenever they plug in. This provides flexibility, cost savings and convenience for customers. The Charge Station Management Software (CSMS) is hosted on cloud infrastructure, is OCPP V2.0.1 compliant, delivering near instantaneous decision making and robust and secure information storage. This approach allows us to upgrade services by “over-the-air” updates, giving customers new options and offers as they become available.

Super-charged Flexibility Payments

Many home charging systems can offer flexibility payments to owners for not charging at certain times. Home charge points are typically only used by one or two electric vehicles. Public charging points can be used by multiple people throughout the day. A charge point on the Trojan Energy system may be utilised by multiple different vehicles during flexibility periods (typically peak time). Flexibility payments are therefore worth several times more than typical home chargers. At Trojan Energy we choose to share this gain with our customers through our cloud system. Our software allows you as a CPO, the flexibility to determine how to bill your customers and incentivise charging behaviour.

Software-as-a-Service

All charge points are integrated into our cloud service, allowing you to benefit from enhancements which have been fully tested on the Trojan Energy platform. Business customers can be provided with custom APIs to integrate into your systems and provide you with valuable data on your customers charging behaviour, allowing you to push notifications or target high utilisation areas. Our DE-ICER software can help adjust the parking behaviour of all car owners on the street and providing valuable insight into potential future customers whilst incentivising adoption.

Getting close to your customer

What is the barrier to installing EV charging hardware in front of a customer’s home for maximum convenience? In the UK the gate keeper is typically the local council. Only the local council can decide what is installed on their pavement, and councillors answer to many stakeholders; EV owners, local residents, pressure groups, businesses, electricity network operators etc. These competing concerns have reduced on-street charge point deployment. From a council’s perspective they need proposals which:

Minimise the impact of charge points for all pavement users.

• Flat & flush charge points - With no permanent footprint or street clutter, it’s only visible when a vehicle is charging. Leaving as much space on the pavement as possible.

• Cloud arbitrated charging allows substantially more connections to be made for one street cabinet.

• Our technology allows connectors to be deployed up to 100m away from the cabinet allowing the cabinet to be tucked out of sight.

• With our DE-ICER scheme (to be trialled in UK) we can reduce instances of “ICEing” without the need to paint EV only bays, reducing tension between ICE and EV drivers. This software will be provided as part of our package pending trials in Summer 2021.

Avoid multiple successive civil works on a street to install more capacity.

• By installing 15 x 22kW connectors at a time the need for multiple civils works to install more capacity is much reduced.

• Our system works with the local network operator to ensure the local grid is protected avoiding upgrades where possible.

Drive utilisation of EVs to reduce air pollution

• 15 charge points per installation gives local residents confidence they can charge on-street allowing them to consider an EV.

• By driving utilisation up costs per user come down, making EV ownership even more attractive.

Convenience is the key Over 95% of EV charging happens at home because it is relatively cheap and extremely convenient. From the rise of online shopping, fast food delivery and supermarket deliveries, customers have shown that if you make it convenient, they will buy it. EV charging for those without driveways is no different, but to make it convenient, it is crucial to get close to the customer. Install outside a customer’s apartment, rather than a nearby supermarket carpark or ex-petrol station and you’ll have loyal customers who will find it too inconvenient to consider charging elsewhere.

Install fifteen charge points on a street and you remove charging availability doubts and suddenly many more people will consider the switch to an EV and increasing your revenue further.

We designed the Trojan Energy charge points to allow you to get closer to your customers, delivering crucial convenience, winning loyalty, more customers and higher utilisation in return.

Trojan Energy Mission

To ensure everyone benefits from the energy transition.

We believe we are on the cusp of an energy revolution as low carbon technologies begin replacing hydrocarbons.

Our team is committed to engineering products and services to ensure that the benefits of this revolution are realised by all, releasing many more people from dependency on fossil fuels and in doing so making the world a better place.
