Helping Verbs: A helping verb always stands in front

of a main verb. For example, in the sentence Shyla

can ride her sister's bicycle, the helping verb is can and the main verb is ride.

part of a group.” The root mem as in memory means “remembering.”

vocabulary terms this week by completing the practice exercises on pages 29-30

S.p.n.= subject pronoun H.p.= helping verb. Also remember helping verbs go

on the same line as the main verb (or action verb) because the helping verb helps to make the main verb more precise(clear).

Dialogue: A conversation between two or more characters.

Characterization: is the development of a character in a story. Authors often use different character traits or descriptions of the characters personality: For example: Sarah is normally sarcastic but today she seems full of optimism.

From this perspective the reader only knows the thoughts and feelings of the character telling the story. From this narrative perspective the pronouns : I , me , my are used.Second Person Point of View: Perspective of the story is told from a person who is not fully in the story. Also used to give instructions or descriptions. Most commonly used in How to books, not usually mentioned. Third Person Point of View Omniscient: Perspective of the story is told from a character who is not in the story but has knowledge of all characters thoughts and feelings.
