Human scale

Like many things in the design of cities, when you let the limits of human movement dictate size and proportions, the scale begins to feel human.

“You can sense how the heights of the buildings are in harmony with the width of the street. The materials are warm and natural, and, on the Avenues and major streets, the sidewalks are lined with small shops and restaurants. While walking, you have the sense that you “fit.”

Social factor and community

Green spaces in urban centers are essential to building healthy, livable cities.

The new green space offered in the middle of the roundabout also adds valuable community space. The center lawn is somewhat insulated from car noise.

Space for every bodyGreat public spaces are the living room of the city - the place where people come together to enjoy the city and each other. Public spaces make high quality life in the city possible - they form the stage and backdrop to the drama of life. Public spaces range from grand central plazas and squares, to small, local neighborhood parks.

People make spaces. Cities are fundamentally about people and the

ways in which public spaces are built is important to any city.

Space without people

In order to utilize the free space effectively, student architects from the University OfWaterloo School Of Architecture havecome up with a new design by usingcardboard and various other materials suchas fabric. The name given to what theyhave created on a test basis is TESTtubes:An Urban Forest. The intention is to createan modern looking forest in the free spacesthat are not in use anymore.www.greendiary.com/transforming-free-spaces-
