PHILANTHROPY
Metagenes Brothers have been active in events beyond initiation in the past year. In addition to holding regular software and resume building workshops for the professional benefit of all students in Cowgill and Burchard Hall, the Metagenes have also pursued activities to benefit Blacksburg and the greater New River Valley Region.
BIG EVENT VIRGINIA TECH -
The Big Event at Virginia Tech is a student-run community service effort that has grown into the second largest event of its kind in the nation. Every spring, thousands of students, faculty, and staff come together to complete nearly one thousand community service projects throughout Blacksburg, Christiansburg and the New River Valley.
In Spring 2013 brothers of the Metagenes Chapter traveled to nearby Christiansburg and helping a local family with yard work. This included raking, bagging, and the perks of free food.
We are gearing up for another year of Big Event at Virginia Tech this spring, on April 5.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY -
On two separate occasions, Metagenes brothers have assisted in new build projects for Habitat for Humanity in Roanoke, Virginia. Brothers carried out tasks including installing top plates on second-floor interior walls, applying waterproofing and siding to exterior walls, and building a backyard shed.
SOCIAL
It has been another busy year at Virginia Tech filled with social events, helping us to bond in brotherhood. Our annual October pumpkin carving and December tacky holiday party have become regular events for the Metagenes brothers. We are also getting excited for our White Rose Celebration, to occur April 12 in Blacksburg.
Finally, we are happy to announce that we will be celebrating the graduation of ten active brothers from the school of Architecture + Design at Virginia Tech in 2014:
